Birds Eye Broccoli Tots Source: Conagra Brands

Conagra has announced a recall of multiple lots of Birds Eye Broccoli Tots after two consumers alerted the company that they had hurt their teeth or mouth because of the presence of metal and small rocks in the product.

The bags of recalled frozen tots are marked as follows:
    • Best by Aug. 11, 2022, or Aug. 12, 2022 (lot code: 4715104220).

    • Best by Aug. 19, 2022, or Aug. 25, 2022 (lot code: 4715105620).

    • Best by Nov. 10, 2022 (lot code: 4715113020).

    • Best by Nov. 17, 2022 (lot code: 4715113720).

No other Birds Eye products are involved in this recall.

Conagra said it is working with retailers to remove the recalled Broccoli Tots from store shelves. Before you buy this product, check the date and lot code in the store. If you have this product in your freezer, throw it away or contact Conagra or the store where you bought the product for information about getting a refund.

    More on Food Safety

“Processing machinery has many moving parts, and the food is moved from many places within the plant during manufacturing, so in general there are opportunities for foreign materials, such as metal or rubber, to get into a food,” says James E. Rogers, PhD, director of food safety and testing at Consumer Reports. “Small rocks may come from the soil the vegetables are grown in.”

A spokesperson for Conagra told CR: “We are actively investigating the source of the extraneous materials in the product and will be taking corrective actions to address it.”

If you experience an injury, Conagra says to contact a healthcare provider. Consumers with questions about this recall can contact Conagra at 800-921-7404 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or at consumer.care@conagra.com.
