Battery leaf blowers have improved exponentially and now rival or beat gas models for tasks ranging from sweeping up grass clippings to blowing leaves or even clearing out gutters.

A leaf blower can ease the job of moving leaves and twigs from your yard, or even quickly dust off sandy decks in summer or clear powdery snow in winter. Stronger leaf blowers can be a tool of choice for cleaning out gutters or moving along pine cones or other objects.

When shopping for a new leaf blower, consider the tasks you’ll use it for and the size of your yard. Consumer Reports has more than 100 leaf blowers in our ratings, available to CR members. These include handheld, backpack, and wheeled varieties. Our scores for these models are derived from expert testing and feedback from thousands of members on reliability and satisfaction.

However, CR doesn’t test every leaf blower on the market. That’s why we’ve developed brand-level ratings for battery handheld leaf blowers, which can provide an indication of how models from a given brand might perform.

In this article

These brand ratings are based on a statistical model that incorporates CR’s Overall Scores for battery handheld leaf blowers, plus availability and price. These ratings reflect performance, ease of use, predicted reliability, and owner satisfaction scores.

All brands eligible to be considered in the analysis must have at least three available models rated by Consumer Reports.

Best Battery Handheld Leaf Blower Brands

The best battery-powered leaf blowers perform just as well as, or even better than, gas-powered models. They handle well as a group, in part because they’re lighter than gas models. They’re also compatible with a specific battery platform, which means their batteries can be used with other power tools of the same voltage made by the same brand, such as string trimmers and lawn mowers. Those conveniences, plus the fact that battery versions are friendlier to the environment, are driving demand. Battery leaf blowers outsell their gas counterparts.

Our current ratings include more than 70 battery handheld leaf blowers and recommend well over a third of them. While we don’t have enough data to include every company in these ratings, the analysis shows where big brands like Ego, Greenworks, Ryobi, and Toro fall.
