Nearly 200,000 Horizon Fitness Folding Treadmills Recalled Due to Fall Hazard
Horizon has received reports of its T101-05 treadmills unexpectedly changing speed or stopping, posing a fall hazard to users
On October 27, Johnson Health Tech Trading issued a recall for about 199,000 Horizon Fitness folding treadmills that were sold in the U.S. and Canada. The company has received hundreds of reports of treadmills unexpectedly changing speed or stopping, posing a fall hazard to users.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice states that Horizon has received at least 874 reports of treadmills unexpectedly changing speed or stopping. There have been 71 reports of injuries as a result of these incidents, including bruises, abrasions, and two broken bones.
Details of the Horizon Treadmill Recall
The recall: The recall includes model T101-05 China and model T101-05 Vietnam folding treadmills with serial numbers starting with TM734 and TM486. These treadmills have a running area that measures 55 inches long by 20 inches wide, with a 33-inch-wide console. Horizon T101-05 is printed on the treadmill’s serial number label. The name of the model and the serial number are located on the metal frame near the power switch.
The risk: Treadmills can change speed or stop unexpectedly, causing users to fall.
Incidents/injuries: Horizon has received 874 reports of treadmills unexpectedly changing speed or stopping, with 71 reports of injury, including two broken bones.
How many: About 192,000 treadmills sold in the U.S. and about 7,000 sold in Canada.
Where and when sold: Affected machines were sold at Dick’s Sporting Goods and Johnson Fitness Wellness stores nationwide, and online at HorizonFitness.com, Amazon.com, DicksSportingGoods.com, and JohnsonFitness.com from March 2018 through October 2022 for between $600 and $1,000.
The remedy: Stop using the recalled treadmills and contact Horizon to receive a free USB flash drive with a software upgrade and installation instructions. Delivery of the flash drive will take up to three weeks. You can also download the T101-05 software update online to install it using a flash drive at home.
