No matter what you’re looking for in a new bed, there is a deal on a mattress that’s right for you. From innersprings to memory foam, hybrids to adjustable air models, there are plenty of options to choose from. With Veterans Day coming up soon, some of these mattresses are dropping down to their better-than-normal sale prices. Many are not quite there yet, however, so it may be best to use this list as research and wait to buy closer to the holiday weekend when the prices drop. The discounts will often improve anywhere from 5 to 10 percent in the week or so leading up to he holiday weekend. The current offers are still good if you need a new bed right away, but if you can wait, you’ll save more next month (and potentially even more if you wait for Black Friday).
We monitor the mattresses that perform well in Consumer Reports tests to offer you the best offers on high-quality models from top brands such as Avocado, Casper, Sleepy’s, and more. The prices listed below are for the queen-size version, but all other sizes are similarly discounted.
There are also plenty of great discounts on everything you’ll need for a great night’s sleep, including pillows, sheets, sleep masks, and other accessories CR has evaluated.

The Casper Snow is one of the least heat-retaining mattresses we’ve tested, making it great for those who sleep hot. It’s also an all-around high-performing pick. Combining pocketed coils with layers of foam, this hybrid is particularly supportive for petite back sleepers but is also well-suited for side sleepers of all sizes and for the average back sleeper. Large and tall sleepers may want to look elsewhere. With a firmness rating of 4 out of 10, it’s on the softer side. Its solid stability rating means sleepers are unlikely to feel vibrations from a partner’s movements.
Bear mattresses like the Elite Hybrid get high marks for owner satisfaction and comfort in our exclusive member survey. The Elite Hybrid also gets near-perfect scores across the board for petite, average, and large and tall folks of all sleep styles. This, along with the Star Hybrid and the Pro Hybrid, earns the CR Recommended badge. Bear is running a sitewide 30 percent discount with the code DEAL30. It does reach 35 percent during bigger sales if you can wait.
The Avocado Green is 15 percent off right now, and CR members can take advantage of a special offer to save even more—keep reading for details. This mattress performs superbly in our support tests for all sizes and sleep positions, except for petite side sleepers, where it still rates better than most. It receives only a middling score for stabilization, however, so if you don’t like much bounce or motion transfer, this mattress might not be the one for you.
Members can take $50 off any purchase of $500 or more, including sale items like this mattress. Just click Shop, then select Get Offer, and the discount will automatically apply to your cart when you check out.
The Layla Essential foam mattress, which is 9 inches thick, is a great lower-cost option if you’re in the market for a firm mattress. It earns CR’s top ratings for petite and average back sleepers and near-perfect scores for large back sleepers and petite side sleepers. Average and large side sleepers would find better support elsewhere, though. The mattress receives a firmness rating of 7 out of 10 in our tests. You may feel some vibrations from a fellow sleeper’s shifts; the model earns only a middling stability score. It also doesn’t retain heat. In our member surveys, Layla mattresses earn solid scores for comfort and owner satisfaction.
There are quite a few high-performing foam mattresses in our ratings that offer terrific side-sleeper support. This 10-inch-thick mattress-in-a-box is particularly appealing if you’re looking for the springy cushioning of latex but don’t want to spend more than $2,000 for it. (Many high scorers in our ratings cost much more than that, and this latex is GOLS-certified organic.) It earns a not-too-firm, not-too-soft score of 5 on our firmness scale. According to our tests, side sleepers—and those smaller-than-average in particular—receive terrific support. Back sleepers do just as well.
The Casper Sleep Element mattress performs well in CR’s tests. It gets above-average scores in almost every test and solid ratings in CR’s surveys for comfort and owner satisfaction. It gets middling scores for average and large/tall side sleepers, as well as large and tall back sleepers.
This 14-inch memory foam mattress from Lucid is already a bargain buy at its regular price of $529, but taking $50 off makes it an even better deal. The Lucid is ideal for petite sleepers and average side sleepers, especially if you love a softer bed. It received middling scores for stabilization, so you may feel it when your partner or pet makes major moves. It gets an excellent score for durability, so you can expect to enjoy a comfortable sleep for years to come.
The Puffy Lux Hybrid innerspring/foam mattress-in-a-box is at a nice discount right now with the code OCTSALE. It comes through with above-average support for nearly every size and style of sleeper. The exception: large and tall back sleepers. The durability is impressive but stability is just average, which could leave sleepers feeling vibration from a partner’s movements. And this model doesn’t make shifting sleep positions easy. With a firmness rating of 1 out of 10, it’s quite soft.
The Solaire mattress by Saatva is made with certified organic materials and is an all-around crowd-pleaser, with above-average results in just about every area, including nice support for all sleep positions and sizes, as well as good stabilization. It also excels when it comes to durability. As a brand, Saatva keeps its users quite content in terms of both comfort and owner satisfaction.
Serta Sheer Slumber EZ Tote
If you’re looking for an affordable firm mattress, the Serta Sheer Slumber mattress fits the bill. It lands a 9 out of 10 on our firmness scale, and with a (full) price under $500, it’s one of the more affordable foam mattresses in our ratings. Overall, this mattress-in-a-box offers impressive support for most sleepers with the exception of large side sleepers, who can expect only average support. Serta foam mattresses receive so-so scores for comfort and predicted reliability, according to CR’s member surveys.
Brooklyn Bedding has mattresses, pillows, mattress toppers, sheets, and more. CR has tested a handful of the company’s products, including the Signature Hybrid mattress, which is 25 percent off with the code FALL25. During long holiday weekends, the discount often reaches 30 percent when the holiday weekend hit, so we’d recommend waiting until Veterans Day weekend, as this is likely to happen again, and you’ll potentially be able to save an additional $60.
This model is an exceptional choice for petite side sleepers; it got top marks in that category. And folks with other body types and sleep styles may be happy with it as well because it scored above average in all our other tests.
Back sleepers of all sizes will appreciate that the Essentia Grateful Eight Organic mattress offers excellent support. Side sleepers will also find that it offers solid support. This newly released latex foam model from Essentia has excellent stability. But it weighs a hefty 111 pounds and has no grips, so you’ll need someone to help you move it. In our member surveys, Essentia’s foam models receive the highest possible rating for comfort and are just a tad shy of a top-tier mark for owner satisfaction. With a firmness level of 6 out of 10, the model is medium to medium-firm in feel. It’s among the eco-friendliest foam offerings in our ratings. The 20 percent discount will apply automatically once you add it to your cart.
Bear Mattress is offering 30 percent off sitewide right now with the code DEAL30. A mattress purchase will also get you two Cloud pillows, a sheet set, and a mattress protector at no extra cost. (The company typically includes only pillows outside of big sales like this.) The Bear Original foam mattress performs well in our tests, and it’s a good choice for back and side sleepers who are petite or of average height. (Tall folks may want to look elsewhere.) CR’s tests found that this mattress tends to retain heat, so it may be best for those who sleep cooler.
This memory foam mattress from Sleepy’s is a CR Recommended model. This mattress gets high marks for average and petite back sleepers, and above-average scores for all other sleeping types and body sizes. So if you prefer all memory foam and need a new bed, this could be a good option. Just note that it gets middling scores for stabilization and owner satisfaction.
The Essentia Stratami is one of the top performers in CR’s tests, especially if you sleep on your back. Mattress shoppers who come to Essentia for organic materials won’t be disappointed in the performance of the company’s natural rubber latex-based foam. This mattress performed excellently for petite and average-sized back sleepers. Large/tall back sleepers and all side sleepers will find very good performance as well. The discount will apply automatically when you add the mattress to your cart.
The Birch Natural mattress is 250 percent off as part of the brand’s extended Labor Day sale with the code FALLSALE (and it comes with two free pillows). We typically see it reach 25 percent off around holiday weekends, so wait to save more if you can. It does well in CR’s tests, and if you’re a petite side sleeper, it may be an exceptional choice. It gets top scores in our tests for that category. It scores above average for all other sleepers, except large and tall side sleepers, who may want to look at other models.
The 8-inch-thick Essentia Classic REM5 Organic offers very good support for side sleepers of all sizes and most of their back-sleeping partners, though smaller back sleepers may want to consider another mattress. While CR members find Essentia foam mattresses to be quite comfortable, for this model in particular, that comfort comes at a pretty steep cost. The REM5 is usually more than $4,000, but it’s also made of organic latex foam, a material that tends to fetch a higher price due to its luxury status. Our tests show that this mattress doesn’t retain heat. With a firmness rating of 3 out of 10, the bed has a soft feel. You’ll get the discount once you add it to your cart.
