YONKERS, NY — Consumer Reports (CR), the nonprofit research, testing and consumer advocacy organization, names two new members to its Board of Directors: Ivan Rosales, Chief Financial and Operating Officer of the Clara Lionel Foundation, and David Wan, who serves as an Advisor to Harvard Business Publishing (HBP) after holding roles as CEO and board member of HBP.
The additions were announced at Consumer Reports Annual Meeting on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, which celebrated CR as a brand with purpose.
“At the heart of CR is a mission that matters to millions of people every day. We work with consumers to investigate, educate and advocate for a better marketplace for everyone,” said Marta L. Tellado, President and CEO of Consumer Reports. “This can only happen with the right strategy and people. Ivan and David bring fresh perspectives to build on our track record of success and strengthen consumer rights for generations to come.”
Joaquín Alvarado, Chair of Consumer Reports’ Board of Directors and Founder and Partner of Studiotobe, said, “We are witnessing incredible innovation in today’s marketplace. From artificial intelligence to vehicle automation, CR continues to address new advances in, and threats from, technology. These new members come with the expertise and experience to help advance CR’s reputation and mission.”
In addition to the election of Rosales and Wan, the following Board members were reelected to new three-year terms: Stephen Hoover, Vice Chair of CR’s Board of Directors and CEO of Impossible Objects; Calvin Sims, former Executive Vice President of Standards and Practices at CNN; Taren Stinebrickner-Kauffman, founder and principal of AI Impact Lab; and Astrid Vermeer, Chief Financial & Administrative Officer for Perkins School for the Blind.
About the New Members of the Consumer Reports Board of Directors:
Ivan Rosales is the Chief Financial and Operating Officer of the Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF) which focuses on climate resilience and climate justice, both in the Caribbean and United States. He is responsible for overseeing all fiscal and fiduciary responsibilities for the organization, and for managing all human resources and operational elements of CLF. Mr. Rosales has extensive experience building out systems and infrastructure for mission-driven organizations. Prior to joining CLF, he was the head of finance and operations at North Star Fund, a social justice fund that supports grassroots organizing led by communities of color building power in New York City and the Hudson Valley. Mr. Rosales is committed to climate and social justice. Mr. Rosales holds a Masters of Arts from New York University and a BA from California State University, San Bernardino. Mr. Rosales previously served on the boards of the ACLU of Southern California, the New York State Youth Leadership Council, and currently serves on the Board of the AJ Muste Memorial Institute.
David Wan is the retired CEO and board member of Harvard Business Publishing (HBP). He currently serves as Advisor to the corporation. HBP’s mission is to improve the practice of management and its impact in a changing world. Through its magazine (Harvard Business Review), websites, books, case studies, videos, online learning programs, and digital tools, HBP helps lead, inform, and inspire professionals, corporations, educators, and students around the world with the best in management thinking and practice. Mr. Wan joined HBP in 2002 as CEO and is credited with transforming the organization into a global leader in the practice of management. Prior to joining HBP, Mr. Wan was the chief financial officer and then president of the Penguin Group, (now Penguin Random House/Bertelsmann) the global trade consumer book publishing division of Pearson plc. Prior to joining Pearson, he was president of K-12 Publishing, Simon & Schuster’s umbrella group for elementary and secondary education courseware. Before entering the publishing and media industry, Wan held management positions in consulting and finance at Arthur Andersen (now Accenture), PepsiCo and Paine Webber. Mr. Wan received his MBA from Harvard Business School and his BA from Yale University. Mr. Wan currently serves on the Board of Governors (chair) for the Yale University Press and on the Board of Directors for Harvard Magazine.

Consumer Reports is governed by a board of volunteer directors. A slate of nominees is selected by the Board of Directors and elected to the Board annually by Consumer Reports members for a three-year term. Nominees, who are self-nominated, or nominated by current Board members or staff, must have no conflicts of interest with commercial, business, manufacturing, or financial enterprises that could reasonably affect their independent judgment as directors. Board members receive no compensation, but are reimbursed for meeting expenses.
