Amazon’s fall Prime Big Deal Days is over, but if you’re looking for something for your kitchen or are already thinking about getting a jump on holiday shopping, it’s still a great time to get started. At Consumer Reports, we’re scouring deals on Amazon and Best Buy, along with competitors Target and Walmart, whose sales continue through Oct. 12 and 13, respectively.
Whether you’re looking to elevate your kitchen game with a new air fryer or blender, or replace that old coffee maker or stand mixer with a high-performing new model, we’re here to help.
We look at each item’s quality and its sale price compared to what it usually costs (not just how much the retailers tell you you’ll save), so you know exactly how good a deal you’re getting during these sales. We’ll be updating this post as sales come and go, so check back again for the latest. You can also head to the CR Deals Hub to see what other deals are worth looking into, whether you’re after tech devices, other home goods, or anything in between.
Air Fryers
The Cosori Lite CAF-LI211 is perfect for anyone with limited counter space. This measured 1.7-quart air fryer is packed with appealing features such as a dishwasher-safe basket, preprogrammed settings, and a digital display, but with a footprint of just 9x11 inches, it comes in a small package (and a fairly small price tag, too). What’s more, this model was a standout in our tests, receiving high marks for being easy to use and to clean and remaining at a low volume while cooking. The Cosori Lite comes with a two-year warranty.
This is $5 more than the lowest price we saw earlier this week, but you’re still saving $10 off the usual price.
The last time we saw a deal this good on the Instant Vortex Slim 140-3100-01 was also around the winter holidays last year. This model earned very good scores across the board in our ease of use, ease of cleaning, and noise tests. It has pre-programmed settings for specific foods and a reheat function. Like many other air fryers, this model’s actual capacity (4.9 quarts) falls well short of the manufacturer’s claimed capacity of 6 quarts, something to consider if you’re expecting to cook for a crowd.
The 4-quart Instant Vortex Plus 140-3079-01 is notable for its legibility of digital controls, relatively low noise levels, and ease of cleaning. It comes with an add or turn food reminder (you can turn that sound off if you prefer), and you can create custom programs. Its square basket design makes it easy to fit in a small Pyrex dish or baking pan—great for making sweet treats. The 3-quart model has a 1-year warranty.
The large Ninja Foodi DZ550 has two separate baskets and two separate cooking zones, and in addition to air-frying, it can also bake, roast, broil, and dehydrate. Another plus is its leave-in thermometers that enable you to monitor your food as it cooks (especially handy for meat). This air fryer earns very good marks for its easy-to-use controls and for being relatively easy to clean, but it only earns a mediocre score for noise, so you may need to raise your voice a bit to talk over it when it’s working.
Coffee Makers
Owners of Cuisinart coffee makers report excellent owner satisfaction with their machines, and you can expect a good-tasting cup from the Cuisinart DCC-3400 12-cup Programmable Thermal coffee maker. It receives an excellent score in our tests for brew performance, an indicator of the best taste. However, our testers did find it unwieldy to handle and pour from, something that people with hand strength or dexterity issues might want to be mindful of. We’ve seen this coffee maker hover at around this price a few times in the past year, but it’s a deal worth snapping up if you’re in the market for a coffee maker.
With the on-page coupon, this coffee maker is actually $25 cheaper than it was during Amazon’s sale.
Getting a quick first cup of coffee in the morning is one of the main draws of a K-Cup coffee maker, and the CR Recommended Keurig K-Cafe Barista Bar with Frother single-serve machine delivers, earning an excellent score for first cup speed in CR’s tests. It also shows excellent performance in our tests for size consistency and temperature consistency. This model comes with a feature that allows you to brew your coffee over ice without causing as much ice to melt as you’d find with a standard brew, though we haven’t tested that function. Plus, there’s an option to brew a two-ounce shot for more café-style drinks, and its milk frother allows you to produce hot or cold foam.
Blenders
Breville as a blender brand receives a very good score for owner satisfaction in CR’s member surveys, and the Breville Super Q BBL920BSS1BUS1 is a model that also aces our evaluations for puréeing, in which we blend raw ingredients into a soup, and durability, which we determine by conducting three rounds of 15 consecutive ice crush tests. It also gets a top score for convenience, but like most blenders in our ratings, it receives only a mediocre score for noise.
The Breville the Fresh & Furious BBL620SIL blender may be less expensive than other models from this brand, but it still excels at puréeing, and aces our convenience evaluations and durability tests. It’s also very good at making icy drinks, based on our evaluation of the smoothness and thickness of the non-alcoholic piña coladas we make to test that ability. However, in our ice crush tests (in which we see how well blenders crush seven cubes of ice without water in a set amount of time), this Breville blender earns just a middling score.
The Ninja BL770 is not just a blender. Ninja calls it an entire kitchen system, which can save you some space if you might have bought a full-sized blender, a personal blender, and a food chopper all separately. As a blender, this Ninja proved tough in our durability tests, in which we crush ice cubes over the course of 45 tests or until the blender breaks. It also earns very good scores in our performance tests, including those for icy drinks, purée, and ice crushing. With the personal blender attachment, this model actually earned an excellent score for pureeing. Plus, the food chopper attachment can be used with an included dough blade. Prices have been up and down on this model over the past year, so if you need to pass on it this time around, it’s a safe bet that this will go back on sale in the next few months.
We haven’t seen a deal this good on the CR Recommended Vitamix 5200 since last holiday shopping season. This pricey model demonstrates excellent performance in our purée and icy drink tests, as well as in our tough durability tests. It’s also very good at crushing ice, achieving a snowcone-like consistency. As a brand, Vitamix has excellent predicted reliability and owner satisfaction, meaning owners are likely to recommend their blender to friends and family. This model comes with a plastic jar, a tamper, and cord storage.
Is this blender $100 more expensive than it was earlier this week? Yes. Will you find it at that price before Black Friday? Probably not, and it is still $50 less expensive than its everyday price.
Mixers
The KitchenAid Architect KHM7210 7-Speed hand mixer comes in five colors, including the brand’s familiar Empire Red, but check before ordering to make sure the color you want is included in the sale. This little handheld is proficient at speedily whipping cream and tackling stiff cookie dough while keeping a lid on the noise level. Our testers found its controls convenient, grip comfortable, and beater insertion a breeze. The model comes with wire beaters and a whisk.
The 6-speed KitchenAid KHM6118CU earns very good scores in our cookie dough mixing test. It takes a little longer to whip heavy cream than some hand mixers, but it’s on par with the pricier KitchenAid Architect. It comes with a whisk attachment and easy-to-clean wire beaters, and the controls are a cinch to use.
The less expensive KitchenAid Classic Series K45SSWH matches the performance of the other KitchenAid mixers in CR’s ratings, test for test, meaning it excels at mixing, kneading, and whipping, and it does it all quietly. The 10-speed mixer comes with a 5-quart stainless steel bowl (without a handle), a flat beater, a dough hook, and a wire whisk. It’s compatible with all KitchenAid attachments, so you can branch out from baking to preparing a wider variety of foods, even sausage.
A stand mixer like the KitchenAid Artisan Series KSM195PSBK is a prized possession on many bakers’ countertops, and this price makes it easier to add it to yours. This stand mixer earns an excellent score for whipping time in whipped-cream tests and an excellent score in our mixing tests, where we observe how much a mixer labors when mixing thick chocolate-chip cookie dough. It comes with a stainless steel bowl with a handle, a whisk, and a dough hook. This model can also run attachments like a pasta maker or spiralizer, bought separately.
The KitchenAid Bowl Lift KSM70 is an attractive (though hefty) 27-pound bowl-lift style stand mixer, meaning that instead of the top of the machine tilting down into the bowl, the bowl itself lifts up to meet the beaters. This can make it easier to fit the machine under your upper kitchen cabinets. Bread bakers will be happy that it receives a top score for kneading and can accommodate two loaves’ worth of dough. It also receives very good scores in our whipping and mixing tests. We’ve seen better deals on this pricey but highly capable model in the recent past, but this is still a great one.
Cookware
While we’ve seen the CR Recommended 11-piece Cuisinart SmartNest Stainless Steel N91-11 cookware set for less in the past year, at this discount, it’s still worth considering, especially if you’re gearing up for holiday cooking. It receives excellent scores in our cooking evenness and food release tests, and shows very good results in all of the other performance measures we test for, including speed of heating, ease of cleaning, handle temperature, and handle sturdiness. This set is induction compatible, oven safe (without its lids) to 500° F, and comes with a lifetime warranty.
The Our Place Always Pan 2.0 frying pan rarely goes on sale. The 10.5-inch pan cooks evenly, earning an excellent score in those tests and its ceramic nonstick coating earns very good scores for food release and durability. The handle is super-sturdy, a feature you won’t generally find on lower-cost models, and it’s cool to the touch when cooking.
Weighing in at just about 5 pounds, the 6-quart Our Place Perfect Pot Dutch oven is a real lightweight—but only in the best sense of the word. When it comes to performance, no other Dutch oven in our ratings matches it. It earns excellent scores from ease of cleaning to bread baking, sauce simmering, cooking evenness, and speed of heating. Made of aluminum with a ceramic coating, it’s also induction-compatible and oven-safe to 425° F.
Toasters
Kate Spade can make even your kitchen more fashionable with this Kate Spade All In Good Taste 888394 2-Slice toaster. And it’s not just a pretty accessory. It earns excellent scores for toasting time and color range, meaning you can have a crispy slice or two toasted just the way you like in a snap. Plus, it’s easy to clean, earning an excellent score in those lab evaluations. This toaster earns only a mediocre score for toasting one slice evenly, but if you generally prefer more than that, this may be the toaster for you. At half its list price, you might also consider snapping one up as a holiday gift for another toast-lover in your life.
Food Processors
The CR Recommended Cuisinart Custom 14 DFP-14BCNY food processor earns our top score for its shredding ability and is a strong performer when it comes to chopping and slicing. It’s also one of the quietest models we’ve tested. It weighs nearly 15 pounds (something worth knowing if you’d keep a food processor in a lower cabinet). Many of the food processors we’ve evaluated operate with push-buttons, but this one has levers, which can be easier for some users, such as those with vision loss. This Cuisinart food processor frequently goes on sale, according to our research, so if you can’t pony up for it now, don’t be surprised if you see it on sale again in the next few months.
For a great deal that we haven’t seen since last fall, you can snag this lightweight Ninja Foodi Ultimate System SS401 and enough accessories to keep you whipping, crushing, slicing, and blending for days on end. The 1,200-watt blender/processor holds up to 9 cups and comes with a built-in tamper, a blender lid and processor chute lid, a smoothie attachment and hit-the-road nutrient extraction cup, and processing discs for shredding, slicing, and grating. It has seven preset programs for smoothies, extractions, bowls, spreads, chopping, processing, and even dough making.
