If you’re looking to upgrade your bedroom without replacing your mattress, there are plenty of budget-friendly ways to turn it into a sleep sanctuary. You can almost always find discounts on everything from sheets and pillows to mattress toppers and air purifiers, so you can get quality items without having to pay full price.

Right now there are some good discounts available, but if you don’t have an urgent need for new pillows or a duvet, it may be good to wait a couple weeks. National Sleep Awareness Week begins on March 8 and typically brings more and better deals on mattresses and sleep accessories. We’ll be updating this story during Sleep Week, so check back if you want to save more and have more options. Plus, CR is holding our Member Appreciation Week starting March 10, during which we’ll have some exclusive offers that could help you save even more.

We monitor everything we test in our labs and evaluate in our homes so that we can alert you when the good stuff goes on sale. And we also do our best to give you insights into just how good the discounts really are. And if you’re looking for more than items to spruce up your bedroom, we’re tracking prices on everything we test. Check out the CR Deals hub to see our curation of the best offers available right now.

    Pillows

The Beckham Luxury Linens Hotel Collection Pillow has a 100-percent cotton cover and a 100-percent polyester gel-fiber filling. The pillow aced our test for breathability, so it should help keep you from feeling hot; it also scored top marks for resiliency, so it should maintain its shape over time.

CR's expert guidance and unbiased reviews can help you purchase with confidence.

Despite the "cooling" in its name, this Nectar pillow doesn’t actually have cooling properties. Still, it’s one of the most breathable pillows we’ve evaluated and our tests show that it doesn’t retain warmth. This polyurethane foam and polyester pillow is also quite resilient and excels at offering support for side sleepers. Back sleepers, however, would be better served by the Coop Original.

The Sleep Number ComfortFit Ultimate is made of a blend of memory foam pieces and down alternative fibers. Inside the pillow casing are three layers that can be added or removed to tailor the pillow’s comfort to your individual needs. It earns top support ratings for both side and back sleepers, and our testers find it to be very breathable. It’s not as resilient as other options on this list, though, and might not hold its shape over time. Right now, there’s a buy one, get one half off deal, so you must buy two to get the discount.

    Sheets

You’re going to experience quite a bit of wrinkling with the Hotel Collection Egyptian cotton sheets, but if you don’t mind pulling out the steamer to get your sheets smooth, you have a winner with this set. It provides a great fit for mattresses up to 10 inches thick, and it can withstand quite a bit of stretching and pulling. Plus, it aced our shrinkage test—just one of five cotton sheets in our ratings to do so.

    Duvets

    Utopia Bedding Duvet Insert

    Utopia Bedding Duvet Insert

The Utopia Bedding duvet insert is perfect if you don’t want to spend a ton on a new comforter. I have one that I’ve been using for the past three years, and I find it to be lightweight and perfect for warmer nights. And with a good duvet cover, it gets cozy and warm. CR’s reviewer pointed out that it’s not as fluffy as other duvets (it is on the thinner side). The material is synthetic, so it doesn’t allow for the airflow that those made with natural fibers like cotton can provide.

    Buffy Cloud Comforter

    Buffy Cloud Comforter

Buffy’s Cloud Comforter is the softest choice in our at-home assessment, and it’s back down to the lowest price we’ve seen at Amazon. Thanks to its smooth, silky feel and fluffiness, the duvet is comfortable enough to use without a duvet cover. Made of recycled materials, it’s uniformly stuffed in layers to prevent clumping and shedding. The shell material is 100 percent sateen-weave Tencel lyocell.

    Cooling Blankets

Sleep Number True Temp Cooling Blanket

Sleep Number True Temp Cooling Blanket

This cooling blanket from Sleep Number is actually not one of the chilliest options among the cooling blankets we tried, though it will keep you cooler than a traditional blanket. But it has a lot of other great qualities that may make it worth a look. It’s well-constructed and incredibly soft and cool to the touch. Plus, the material is very thin, making it easy to fold and easier to store.

    Guohaoi Cooling Blanket

    Guohaoi Cooling Blanket

The Guohaoi Cooling Blanket was the second most cooling blanket we tested. When wearing it for an hour, the evaluator reported it felt very cool and didn’t retain heat. The front of this blanket is constructed with nylon and polyester and feels like smooth, cool, swimsuit material. The back is made from Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified cotton. The stitching isn’t the neatest and feels a little inexpensive, and the two layers aren’t attached, but you can often expect some shortcomings for lower-priced items, and the important thing is that this blanket has a cooling effect as advertised.

    Mattress Toppers

Lab tests find that this topper from Casper doesn’t allow users to sink in as deeply as others. This topper feels like an actual mattress, adding a touch of medium softness where needed without allowing the body to sink in too much. The two-layer cushion combines a layer of softer foam over a firmer base layer of foam. At a little under 16 pounds, it’s easy to move around, and its machine-washable zip-off cover made of polyester, cotton, rayon, and spandex makes it easy to clean. However, this topper can not be flipped. Casper offers a 30-night risk-free trial, and its toppers are backed by a 5-year limited mattress topper warranty.

Viscosoft’s gel-infused memory foam topper is reasonably plush but still has a medium to medium-firm feel, based on my experience lying on it. Like the Dormeo, it earns first-rate marks for support and convenience. But this topper envelops the body more than the Dormeo, scoring on the warmer side for heat retention. Our lab data suggests that those who sleep hot are likely to feel that difference. Additional features include corner straps to help keep it in place and a removable machine-washable rayon cover. The topper can also be flipped and rotated, though it weighs 27 pounds (among the heaviest on this list), so you might need a helper. Viscosoft offers a full refund up to 90 days after purchase if you’re not satisfied with your topper. It’s also backed by a five-year warranty from the date of original purchase. The price is $20 more than it was last week, but still $25 less the the holiday discount.

This 2-inch memory-foam topper provides great support while still allowing you to sink into it. And at 8 pounds, it’s not overly heavy to maneuver. It’s flippable, but this deal doesn’t come with a cover (though you can add one on yourself), and a lack of corner straps means it might shift around. You can return Linenspa products for a full refund within 30 days of purchase.

    Air Purifiers

A portable purifier that keeps your air clean and matches your mid-century modern design aesthetic—yes, please. The HoMedics AP-C500 is a large-room air purifier with a budget-friendly price tag (and an additional 20 percent off coupon makes this deal even friendlier). It performs impressively on both high and low speeds and is easy to use. Just expect a fair amount of noise while it’s running.

The HoMedics AP-T200 has impressive performance and an attractive design, similar to the AP-C500. It performs impressively on both high and low speeds and is easy to use. Just expect a fair amount of noise while it’s running. The major difference—this model is designed for medium rooms of 150-350 square feet so it’s smaller in size and has a smaller price tag. Macy’s no longer lists this as a sale, but these are the only two retailers where this air purifier is available, and it originally sold for $300.

    Humidifiers

The low-priced, ultrasonic Levoit Classic 300S can humidify a room of up to 505 square feet, which earns it a solid rating in our output test. It aces other evaluations too. It has a variety of features including automatic shut-off, a digital humidity display more accurate than those of most competitors, and the option to diffuse aromas. And now it’s back down to the lowest price we saw in 2025.

This humidifier, rated for small rooms, is a fantastic balance of quality and price. It’s plenty capable, and it has an indicator when the water level is low, so it’s easy to know when you need to add more (and it shuts off automatically if you don’t get there in time).

    Room Fans

Vornado Flippi V6 Personal Air Circulator

Vornado Flippi V6 Personal Air Circulator

If you’re looking for a small fan to keep things cool on a bedside table and provide a little white noise, this little Vornado model could fit the bill. It’s quiet and fairly versatile, with a 180-degree tilt and two speed settings.
