I try to keep a running list of the household essentials I’m running low on, but, truthfully, I usually don’t notice I’m on my last roll of toilet paper until I’ve placed it on the holder. Laundry detergent, dish soap, and multipurpose cleaners, I like to stock at least two at a time, so I’m never left with a sink full of dishes, a load of dirty laundry unwashed for too long, or a sticky countertop overnight.
Though not the most glamorous or expensive items you can purchase, they are products that can add up fast, especially if you have to restock a few of these things at the same time. Below, we’ve rounded up the best deals on household goods we’ve tested and evaluated (and found worthy for your home), so you can save money on the staples you use every day.

Anti-Static Spray
Static Guard Static Guard Spray
This static spray extinguished the static electricity in our test for 30 minutes. It has an even spray from an aerosol can that’s easier to use than a standard spray bottle, so it’s a good option for those with sensitive hands and wrists. The scent is artificial but light, so it’s unlikely to be noticed by others unless you really go wild with it. Keep in mind that aerosols can emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs), so use sparingly.
Caulks & Sealants
DAP Kwik Seal Kitchen & Bath Adhesive Caulk
The best feature about this caulk is that it does not require a caulk gun to dispense. In our tests, it had the second-best adhesion on painted wood and worked just as well after being exposed to extreme cold and hot temperatures.
Cleaning & Disinfecting Wipes
Tub O'Towels Heavy Duty Cleaning Wipes
Tub O’Towel Heavy-Duty Cleaning Wipes are big enough for heavy-duty cleaning and reusing. Dried-up sweet potato, milk, hot sauce, and rice were no match for these wipes. They were also easy to dispense from the tub.
Dish Soap
Gain Ultra Clean Dish Soap
A soapy bowl of water made with Gain dish soap showed little difference in suds after washing dishes, and the time it took to rinse a sponge holding 1.2 grams of dish soap in it was among the middle of the pack of dish soaps we tried—about half as long as it took to rinse Dawn out of a sponge. The scent of this dish soap was very strong. It wasn’t totally unpleasant to me, but for someone sensitive to overpowering smells, it could be too much.
Dawn Platinum Plus PowerSuds Liquid Dish Soap
When we tested three of Dawn’s dish soaps against each other, we found that they all cleaned dishes well. Dawn Platinum Plus PowerSuds Liquid Dish Soap boasts “2x the suds,” according to the label. We found that the suds it produced remained rich even after washing eight dirty dishes. It had a pleasant smell, and it was easy to dispense onto our test sponges.
Dishwasher Detergent
Finish Powerball Ultimate showed above-average results in our dishwasher detergent lab tests. Their bleach-free formula did well against hard water spots, resisting film and mineral deposits, and cleaning dishes.
This gel formula excelled in our cleaning tests. It also received very good scores for resisting film and discoloration.
Laundry Detergent Sheets
In our tests, detergent sheets proved disappointing in removing stains liquid and pod detergents handled with ease. Still, this was the best of the brands we tested, earning passable ratings for dirt removal.
Liquid Laundry Detergents & Pods
This liquid laundry detergent removed body oil, chocolate, salad dressing, and dirt very well in our lab tests. It’s also effective in hard water.
Multipurpose Cleaners
Stardrops The Pink Stuff The Miracle Multi-Purpose Cleaner Spray
This multipurpose cleaner struggled with sticky messes and grease, but was recommended by our tester for light-to-moderate cleaning. Specifically, it removed toothpaste from a ceramic sink and marinara sauce from a kitchen counter well.
Method All Purpose Cleaner
According to this cleaner’s label, it is made with a “biodegradable formula” and can be used on counters, tile, stone, wood, and glass. It’s results in our tester’s home-testing, showed middle of the pack results.
Powder Cleansers
Bon-Ami Scratch-Free Powder Cleanser
This powder cleanser cleaned well, and unlike the others we tested, had no scent. It’s got a lengthy list of surfaces you can use it on, including cookware, outdoor furniture, glass-top stoves, marble, and more.
Bar Keepers Friend Cleanser
Of the four powdered products we tested, this one removed knife scratches from ceramic plates best. It also had the longest list of surfaces it is safe to use on, including boats, sporting equipment, and vinyl siding.
AJAX Powder Cleanser with Bleach
Though unpleasantly bleach scented, this powder cleanser performed well. Because it contains bleach, it has a shorter list of things you can clean with it, like painted surfaces, silver, and fabric.
Paper Towels
Bounty Select-A-Size Sheets
Bounty Select-A-Size Sheets were our editor’s choice in our tests for paper towels, and for good reason. It earned the highest score for water absorbency and scrubbing strength, and retained its shape the best after soaking and wringing out multiple times. It was the most expensive paper towel we tested, so it’s a good time to buy with this Amazon coupon.
Toilet Paper
Quilted Northern Ultra Plush Toilet Paper
This toilet paper is the strongest that we tested, and is soft, to boot. It’s linty, though, and it takes a long time to dissolve, so it isn’t recommended for sensitive plumbing systems.
