Chicco GoFit

The Chicco GoFit backless booster offers very good seat belt positioning in CR’s tests, and is very easy to use. The GoFit includes a carrying handle, making the already lightweight seat even easier to travel with. The GoFit also features two built-in cupholders and comes with a shoulder belt positioning clip to help get a good fit across your child’s chest. We found the belt clip was necessary for a proper fit in some of our vehicle installations. The Chicco GoFit does not come with LATCH connectors, which are optional for booster seats and are not used for crash protection, but can be helpful for increasing the seat’s stability and securing it when not in use. The Chicco GoFit Plus, a similar model, does include them. 

This seat may be a good choice for: 

• Families looking to switch from a harnessed car seat to a booster seat
• Families looking for a lightweight booster seat to travel with or move between vehicles

Ease of use: The Chicco GoFit is very easy to use and is convenient for travel or switching between vehicles. We found this backless booster had clear instructions and labeling, and clearly states a minimum age for use, which can help keep kids in harnessed seats until they’re ready for a belt positioning booster.  

Booster fit: The Chicco GoFit offers very good seat belt fit in CR’s tests across a range of vehicle installations. Some installations required the use of the provided seat belt clip, so check the seat belt fit on your child when installing to make sure it’s in the right place. 

The Chicco GoFit is part of the Car Seats test program at Consumer Reports. In our lab tests, Booster Seat models like the GoFit are rated on multiple criteria, such as those listed below.

Booster fit (with back): A rating that reflects a booster seat's ability to correctly position the lap and shoulder belts in various test vehicles using a child-sized dummy, when used as a highback booster. Additionally, it includes an assessment of the booster's compatibility with vehicle seats and interior components.

Booster fit (no-back): A rating that reflects a booster seat's ability to correctly position the lap and shoulder belts in various test vehicles using a child-sized dummy, when used as a backless booster. Additionally, it includes an assessment of the booster's compatibility with vehicle seats and interior components.

Ease of use: Our evaluation of how easy each seat is to use, including items such as the clarity of labels and instructions, the ease of achieving an appropriate belt fit, and the transition between highback and backless modes where applicable.
