    As with all Class 1 e-bikes, the Townie requires pedal effort from the rider to engage the electric motor, which is mounted in the rear wheel’s hub. A fairly conventional cruiser-type bicycle with a relaxed, upright riding position, CR’s testers find this model to be comfortable and fun to ride. The battery is mounted on a rear luggage rack, which adds to the weight out back if you also use the rack to stow bags.
