More on Smart Home

Similar to other electronics, deals on smart home devices began for Black Friday and many have simply rolled right over into Cyber Monday with the same discounts.

Below, the best deals we’ve found so far on smart thermostats, smart locks, security cameras, and smoke/carbon monoxide detectors. CR members can click each model name to see detailed ratings and reviews. For more smart home deals, check out our other articles on the best electronics and robotic vacuum deals.

Best Cyber Monday Smart Home Deals

Amazon Key Kit: Schlage Connect Touchscreen Deadbolt and Amazon Cloud Cam
The deal:
$188 at Amazon
Savings: $132
Many smart locks cost $250 on their own, making this a fantastic deal for a smart lock and a security camera. Amazon Key is an opt-in service for letting Amazon delivery couriers leave packages inside your house. And keep in mind that if that idea gives you pause, you can still use the smart lock and camera without using the delivery service. CR hasn’t tested the Amazon Key delivery service, but we have tested both devices individually, and they do very well in our tests (although, like most smart locks in our ratings, the Schlage lock is susceptible to drilling, receiving a Poor rating in that test). If you’d like to buy only the lock, Amazon also has it on sale for $146, a savings of $29.

August Smart Lock Pro + Connect
The deal:
$224 at Amazon
Savings: $56
While not a stellar deal at $56 off, the August Smart Lock Pro is one of the best smart locks in CR’s tests because it offers a ton of smart features that net it an Excellent rating in our Smart IQ evaluation. With the included August Connect WiFi bridge, you’ll be able to remotely lock and unlock the door from your smartphone and take advantage of voice control via digital assistants. August smart locks are also unusual in that they support all three major digital assistants: Amazon Alexa, Apple Siri, and Google Assistant. If you want just the lock without the WiFi bridge, Amazon is also selling the Smart Lock Pro by itself for $180, a savings of $50.

Ecobee3 Lite Smart Thermostat and free Amazon Echo Dot (3rd-Gen.)
The deal:
$139 at Best Buy
Savings: $80
The Ecobee3 Lite isn’t the best smart thermostat we’ve tested—receiving a Poor score for automation—but it’s a great affordable option with a sleek look and plenty of features, including voice control with Apple Siri (which is hard to come by). At this price, you essentially get the thermostat for $30 off, plus a free Amazon Echo Dot (third-generation) valued at $50, so you can use your voice to control the thermostat via Amazon Alexa. In our tests, the newest Dot still offers mediocre sound quality, but it’s highly versatile because it puts a digital assistant in a small and affordable package.

Ecobee3 Lite Smart Thermostat with Two Remote Temperature Sensors
The deal:
 $179 at Home Depot
Savings: $70
If you don't need a free Amazon Echo Dot, Home Depot's deal on the Ecobee3 Lite might be for you. For $10 more than the thermostat's list price, you get the thermostat as well as two remote temperature sensors (worth $80). The sensors are wireless can be placed in other rooms of your home to balance heating and cooling.

Ecobee4 Smart Thermostat and Free Amazon Echo Dot (3rd-Gen.)
The deal:
$199 at Best Buy
Savings: $100
An even better deal than the Ecobee3 Lite, the Ecobee4 gives you more smart features, including the Amazon Alexa digital assistant built in and a remote temperature sensor for balancing heating and cooling in your home. It’s $50 off its usual price, plus you get a free third-generation Amazon Echo Dot.

Ecobee Remote Sensors (Two-Pack)
The deal:
$40 at Best Buy
Savings: $40
If you own an Ecobee thermostat and want additional remote temperature sensors, this is superb deal. The sensors can be placed in other rooms far from your Ecobee thermostat to better balance heating and cooling in your home. A two-pack of the sensors usually costs $80, but today you can get them for 50 percent off.

Nest Cam Indoor
The deal:
$110 at Target with 15 percent sitewide discount
Savings: $89
The Nest Cam Indoor is one of the best security cameras in our ratings, and at $89 off, it’s a solid deal. Our testers give it strong scores all around, including a Very Good rating for video quality. It also offers a variety of smart features, including two-way audio and voice control via digital assistants, but some features (such as person alerts for detecting people walking by) require a monthly subscription.

Nest Learning Thermostat
The deal: $152 at Target with 15 percent sitewide discount
Savings: $97
This deal nets you almost $100 off one of the best smart thermostats we’ve tested. The Nest Learning Thermostat offers superb automation and a ton of smart features, but its manual controls could be better; it receives just a Good rating for manual operation. Still, if you want a thermostat that will save you energy and work with a variety of other smart home devices, this Nest model won’t disappoint.

Nest Protect Smart Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector
The deal:
$84 at Target with 15 percent sitewide discount
Savings: $35
This is an unusual deal because the Nest Protect is usually only discounted to $100. If you’ve been waiting to buy one, now is probably your best opportunity. The Protect offers a variety of features, including the ability to hush the alarm from your phone, but it’s not the best smoke detector. That’s because it can’t detect fast, flaming fires well, receiving a Poor rating in that test. If you go with this model, we recommend also installing an ionization smoke alarm nearby for detecting those flaming fires.

Nest Thermostat E
The deal: $118 at Target with 15 percent sitewide discount
Savings: $51
While not as great a deal as the $139 Ecobee3 Lite bundle above, the Nest Thermostat E is a fantastic smart thermostat in its own right. It receives an Excellent rating for automation (unlike the Ecobee) and comes packed with features, including voice control and geofencing (the ability to make temperature changes when your phone leaves and returns home). It doesn’t look as sleek as the Nest Learning Thermostat, but it will work just as well in your home.

Netgear Arlo Pro 2 Multi-Camera Kits
The deal:
$313 at Amazon for two cameras; $580 at Best Buy for four cameras
Savings: $167 - $220
If you’re in the market for a multicamera security-camera system, consider these multi-camera kits comprised of Netgear Arlo Pro 2 cameras. Amazon is selling a two-camera kit for $313, while Best Buy is selling a four-camera kit for $580. The cameras are completely wireless and can be mounted indoors and outdoors. Our testers give them an Excellent rating for video quality, and they feature geofencing, two-way audio, and voice control via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

Ring Video Doorbell Pro With Ring Chime Pro and Free Amazon Echo Dot (3rd-Gen.)
The deal:
$180 at Best Buy
Savings: $170
This bundle is a killer deal. The Ring Video Doorbell Pro is one of our highest-rated video doorbells and usually retails for $250. At a sale price of $180, you’re getting the doorbell at a solid discount, plus a free $50 Ring Chime Pro and a free $50 third-generation Amazon Echo Dot. The Chime Pro acts as a wireless door chime and a WiFi range extender, which is helpful for boosting your WiFi signal to the doorbell, because the exterior walls of your home can block the signal. We haven’t tested the Chime Pro, though. The new Echo Dot still doesn’t sound great, but it’s an affordable way to put Amazon Alexa in your home.
