Quietest Compact SUVs From Consumer Reports' Tests

These well-rounded models are easy on your ears

Honda CR-V

It can get quite loud inside a compact SUV's cabin. The boxy shape can create plenty of wind noise, and an SUV's raised height lets a lot of road noise bounce off its underside. Add in a small four-cylinder engine that's asked to work hard and you could have a recipe for an unpleasant driving experience.

While not all compact SUVs come with unpleasant sounds, it's a challenge during a test drive to figure out just how loud a model is.

That's where Consumer Reports' car experts come in. We evaluate interior noise as part of more than 50 objective and subjective tests. We listen to the wind, road, engine, and tire noises that often penetrate the interior.
