Whirlpool gives thanks for all those thankless tasks

Finally, someone has wiped the smiling faces from all those ads for household chores, portraying them as the tedious tasks they are. In its new ad campaign, Whirlpool features families with surly teenagers, exhausted mothers, and kids with runny noses. It's out with the aspirational and in with the unpleasantness of everyday housework. Naturally, as the campaign unfolds it will highlight how the brand's appliances can help you. That's something we can attest to since many Whirlpool products have been winners in Consumer Reports' tests.

By highlighting the drudgery of everyday duties, the Whirlpool campaign—called "Every Day, Care"—also salutes the people who perform them. "The simple acts of care that happen every day deserve to be celebrated," the company states on its dedicated website. Here are some everyday Whirlpool appliances that have aced our tests.

Cooking good. In the kitchen, we found cooktops and wall ovens that can be paired for years of good cooking. At $700, the Whirlpool G7CE3034XP electric smoothtop cooktop is a CR Best Buy. It delivers superb simmering and brisk heating and two of the four elements are high power. We also recommend the Whirlpool GCI3061XB induction smoothtop. High performance at the  relatively low price of $1,200 makes the 30-inch cooktop a CR Best Buy.

Five Whirlpool wall ovens made our top picks list including the top-rated Whirlpool WOS92EC0AH single electric wall oven. It costs $1,500. Whirlpool also tops our list of double wall ovens with the Whirlpool WOD93EC0AS, $2,500. The two ovens are nearly equal in size and the top one features convection.

Chill refrigerators. Whirlpool refrigerators in several configurations are also featured on our list of top refrigerator picks. The French-door Whirlpool Gold GX5FHTXV[Q], $1,600, has excellent temperature control and energy efficiency and is a CR Best Buy. Two Whirlpool conventional bottom freezer models also made our picks list and in top freezers, the Whirlpool WRT771REY[W], $1,100, was also a pick. In addition, Whirlpool holds the top spot in our tests of dedicated freezers with the Whirlpool EV161NZT, $700. It has excellent temperature performance and very good energy efficiency.

Clothes calls. In the laundry, the front-loading Whirlpool Duet WFL98HEBU, $1,500, narrowly missed the recommended list but is worth considering for its excellent washing performance. The matching electric dryer, the Whirlpool Duet WEL98HEBU, also $1,500, offers superb drying, quiet operation, and lots of features.

And more. In smaller categories, the Whirlpool WHER25, $200, reverse osmosis water filter delivered great filtering of lead and organic compounds in our tests.  It's a CR Best Buy. And the Whirlpool Whispure AP51030K air purifier, $300, was excellent at removing dust, pollen, and smoke from the air. And it was the quietest portable model we tested,

Expect to see the Whirlpool Every Day, Care ads on television, in print, and online over the coming months. After watching a few, you'll realize that your house isn't so messy after all.
