The Conair Corporation, the parent company of Cuisinart, has recalled 66,000 Cuisinart Compact Blender & Juice Extractor Combos because the nut securing the blade assembly to the base can loosen, posing a laceration hazard should the sharp blade detach.

The firm has received three reports of the blender blade detaching during use, but no injuries have been reported, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The recall involves Cuisinart compact blender and juice extractor combos with the model number CBJ-450. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled blender and contact Conair for a free replacement blade assembly.

Consumer Reports hasn’t tested the Cuisinart Compact Blender & Juice Extractor Combo, but we do rate 40 personal blenders, including other Cuisinart models, based on their ability to make icy drinks, purée raw ingredients into soups, and crush ice.

The risk: The nut holding the blender blade assembly can loosen and detach from the base while in use, potentially causing lacerations if a consumer comes in contact with the loose blade. The juice extractor is unaffected by the recall and can still be used.

Where and when sold: Crate & Barrel and other department, gourmet, and specialty stores nationwide as well as online at Amazon, Macys.com, Kohls.com and at other retailers from November 2021 through August 2022. They retailed for about $80. Cuisinart’s website has discontinued the sale of this model.

The remedy: Stop using this blender’s recalled blade assembly immediately and contact Conair for a free replacement. It will arrive with instructions on how to install the new blade assembly. No tools are necessary; the replacement blade can be inserted into the unit using the original operating instructions.
