CR’s take: The Bella Pro Series 90061 drip coffee maker is especially easy to use. It’s convenient to set up, to operate, and to clean up this 14-cup coffee maker. Our testers also found it easy to hold the handle and to empty the carafe. Plus, this machine offers very good brew performance. This programmable model comes with auto-shutoff and small batch brewing.

CR’s take: The Black+Decker CM4000S 12-cup drip coffee maker earns an impressive rating for its ease of use, as well as very good scores for brew performance and carafe handling. However, when we tried to brew a full pot using a filled-up filter in an additional test, the carafe overflowed. The reservoir markings are also a bit difficult to see, a potential problem if you tend to brew your first pot when you’re only half awake.

CR’s take: With stellar carafe handling and near top-level scores for both convenience and brew performance, the Cuisinart Brew Central DCC-1200 programmable drip coffee maker is a great choice. This 12-cup coffee brewer includes a built-in water filter and an indicator for when it needs cleaning but lacks features such as a thermal carafe and small-batch settings, which may be important to some consumers.

CR’s take: If you want a basic drip coffee maker with a glass carafe, you cannot do much better than the large-volume Cuisinart PerfecTemp DCC-3200, one of the highest-rated drip coffee brewers tested by CR. This 14-cup coffee maker earns an excellent rating for brew performance, reflecting optimal brew temperature and coffee intensity. It can be programmed to have fresh coffee waiting when you wake up and lets you adjust the brewing time to make weaker or stronger coffee.

CR’s take: The unassuming, inexpensive Hamilton Beach 12-cup Programmable 49465R might be easy to miss, but it can brew a mean cup of joe at a fantastic price. It has all the essentials in a basic black plastic finish. It’s programmable, as its name says, and has an auto-shutoff function. And it delivers first-rate brew performance in under just 10 minutes. This model also earns very good ratings for convenience and carafe handling, but the unit did overflow in our spillover tests.

CR’s take: The Keurig K-Express Essentials 500036269 single-serve coffee maker is especially fast at delivering its first cup, and it delivers subsequent cups in quick succession. It dispenses a consistent amount of coffee across multiple cups, but is only middling when it comes to producing a wide range of weak to strong brews. This model comes with a removable water reservoir, automatic shutoff, and a height-adjustable drip tray.

CR’s take: The Primula Burke Cold Brew Coffee Maker PBPBK-5101 is the most inexpensive cold-brew coffee maker in our ratings—and one of the best, receiving an excellent rating for convenience. It comes with a glass carafe, and most of its parts are dishwasher-safe. It’s the only model in CR’s cold-brew coffee maker tests that calls for a full 24-hour brew time, but you might find the results worth the wait.
