CR's Take

The Chicco KidFit Plus is a highback to backless belt-positioning booster seat that can be used with kids aged 4 years or over, and weighing 40 lb. to 100 lb. (for highback mode) or 40 lb. to 110 lb. (for backless mode). We found the Chicco KidFit Plus to be very easy to use and offers very good belt positioning in both highback and backless modes. The KidFit Plus comes with plenty of features, including optional LATCH push-on connectors to increase the seat’s stability and secure it when not in use, two foldable cupholders, and a belt guide clip. The seat is lightweight, making it ideal for moving between cars. It comes standard with flame-retardant chemical-free fabrics. The seat base is somewhat wide, at 19 inches, which can make placement in the middle rear seat of some vehicles a challenge.

This seat may be a good choice for:

  • Families looking to switch from a harnessed car seat to a booster seat
  • Families looking for a booster that can transition from highback to backless
  • Families looking for a booster seat with lower anchors
  • Families looking for a lightweight booster seat to travel with or move between vehicles

Detailed Test Results

Ease of use: The Chicco KidFit Plus is very easy to use, and is lightweight, making it convenient for travel or switching between vehicles. We found this highback to backless booster had clear instructions and labeling, and clearly states a minimum age for use, which can help keep kids in harnessed seats until they’re ready for a belt positioning booster.

Booster fit: The Chicco KidFit Plus offers very good seat belt fit in both highback and backless mode across a range of vehicle installations. Some installations required the use of the provided seat belt clip, so check the seat belt fit on your child when installing to make sure it’s in the right place. In some smaller vehicles in our tests, the wider seat base of the KidFit Plus meant that its installation overlapped with the adjoining passenger seat buckle, making that vehicle seat unusable. In other situations, the vehicle headrest may need to be removed to get a proper fit.

Additionally, it includes an assessment of the booster's compatibility with vehicle seats and interior components.
