An overnight diaper is intended to be used when your little one starts sleeping for longer stretches at night, hopefully preventing some of those middle-of-the-night changes. You’ll want one that’s both extra absorbent and good at keeping moisture away from your baby’s skin so they stay comfortable and are less likely to develop diaper rash.

Other Diapers We Tested
The diapers that didn’t make the cut for our recommendations are Millie Moon Overnight Diapers and Sposie Overnight Diaper Booster Pads. Both did decently well in our dryness tests, so if you use them, your baby’s bum is likely to stay dry once the diapers have absorbed all the liquid.
But these products weren’t as stellar at absorption speed, which made them more susceptible to leaks and wetness. In particular, the Sposie Overnight Diaper Booster Pads, which you insert into any diaper to help boost its absorption performance, were the slowest to absorb liquid of all the overnight diapers we tested.
How CR Tests Overnight Diapers
We performed two tests on size 4 overnight diapers from popular brands.
Absorption: We added 35 milliliters of saline to a tube 1 inch in diameter and let the liquid empty into each diaper, repeated this three more times, waiting 5 minutes in between each application, and then timed how long it takes for the diapers to absorb the fourth application of saline. This test shows us how quickly the diapers absorb liquid when they’re already pretty wet, so you can be sure that your baby’s tender skin won’t be exposed to urine for long.
Dryness: We looked at whether the diapers retained moisture after absorbing it or let it seep back out when we applied pressure. We did this by placing a folded paper towel over the saline-soaked diaper, placing a weight atop the paper towel, holding it for 30 seconds, and then weighing the paper towel to see how much saline seeped out of the diaper. This was to simulate a baby lying or sitting down, or being held with an arm around the bottom.
