So you want to transition your child to potty training using pull-ups. You need something that’s comfortable and stretchy for your child. Pull-up diapers or training pants are intended to be pulled on like underwear, making it easy for kids to take them on and off by themselves. You also, of course, want pull-ups that are absorbent.

It can be a trying time while training your kids to use the toilet. Ask 10 people how to do it and you’ll get 10 different answers. But a good pair of pull-up diapers can lessen the headaches and hopefully keep the rugs and floors in your home spill-free. To find the best pull-up diapers out there, we performed two tests.

Our absorption speed test measured how quickly these pull-ups could soak up liquids, and our dryness test gauged how well the pull-ups were at locking away moisture so it didn’t bother a child’s skin.

    Other Diapers CR Tested

The six other diapers we tested that didn’t make the cut for our recommendations are Up & Up (Target) Boys Training Pants, Up & Up (Target) Girls Training Pants, Millie Moon Unisex Training Pants, HealthyBaby Our Diaper Pants, Huggies Pull-Ups New Leaf Training Pants, and Eco by Naty Eco Pull-On Pants.

Most of them were very good, and it’s not like any one of them was a stinker. Overall, they were decent at absorbing moisture and keeping it away from your toddler, but they weren’t as stellar as the ones we recommend.

    How CR Tests Diapers

We conducted two tests on the 2T-3T or size 4 training pants of 10 popular brands.

Absorption speed: We timed how long it would take the training pants to absorb four batches of saline solution totaling 140 milliliters. Training pants with better absorption abilities take a shorter amount of time, which means your kid’s skin won’t be soaked in urine for too long.

Dryness: After the training pants had absorbed the saline, we placed a paper towel and weight on top of the diaper to see how much moisture would come out of the diaper once pressure was applied.
