Ford Mustang Recalled Because Low Brake Fluid Warning Light May Not Illuminate
An improperly configured module doesn’t send a “low” reading to the warning light if brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoir is too low
Ford is recalling nearly 188,000 Mustang sports cars from the 2020 to 2023 model years because of a problem with the system that monitors the fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir and is supposed to illuminate a warning light if the level is too low.
Ford Mustang Recall Details
Vehicles recalled: 2020 to 2023 Ford Mustangs.
The problem: Because of a software problem with the body control module (BCM), the low brake fluid level warning light on the dash will not illuminate if the brake fluid level in the reservoir falls below the manufacturer-recommended level.
The fix: Ford dealerships will update the BCM software, at no charge, so that the warning light will illuminate if the brake fluid level is too low.
How to contact the manufacturer: Customers can reach Ford at 866-436-7332.
NHTSA campaign number: 23V727000. Ford’s number for this recall is 23C35.
Check to see whether your vehicle has an open recall: NHTSA’s website will tell you whether your vehicle has any open recalls that need to be addressed.
If you plug your car’s 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) into NHTSA’s website and a recall doesn’t appear, it means your vehicle doesn’t currently have any open recalls. Because automakers issue recalls often, and for many older vehicles, we recommend checking back regularly to see whether your vehicle has had a recall issued.
