Honda and Acura Recall SUVs and Trucks for Suspension Rust

The recalled vehicles are the 2014 through 2020 Acura MDX SUV, 2019 through 2023 Honda Passport SUV, 2016 through 2022 Honda Pilot SUV, and 2017 through 2023 Honda Ridgeline pickup. (Acura is owned by Honda.)

Only vehicles sold or registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, Washington D.C., West Virginia, or Wisconsin are included in the recall.

The problem is caused by a paint defect on the rear subframe, which could lead to rust. If this happens, the vehicle’s suspension could fail while the car is being driven, potentially causing a crash. The recall follows an internal investigation and a report of corrosion from the Canadian market.

To fix the problem, Honda and Acura dealerships will inspect the rear subframe and, if necessary, install a reinforcement kit. The automaker told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that there have been no reports of crashes or injuries related to the problem.
