Honda and Acura Steering Recall Details
The problem: The issue is due to a faulty worm wheel and gear setup within the steering gear assembly. A manufacturing error may cause the worm wheel’s teeth to swell, which can increase the friction between the worm wheel and the worm gear. In addition, the worm gear spring was erroneously set too high, which can also lead to increased friction.
The fix: Honda and Acura dealerships will replace the worm gear spring with an improved part and also redistribute and/or add grease to the worm gear assembly as necessary.
How to contact the manufacturer: Owners may contact Honda at 888-234-2138.
NHTSA campaign number: 24V744. Honda’s own codes for this recall are SJS, MJU, QJT, and VJV.
