Jeep Plug-In Hybrid SUVs Recalled Again for Fire Risk

This recall is due to an engine manufacturing defect and is unrelated to ongoing battery problems

Drivers of 2023-2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe and 2024-2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid SUVs are facing yet another fire-related recall. The automaker says it’s aware of 36 fires and three injuries related to this new problem.

    MORE ON car RECALLS

Although other ongoing Jeep PHEV recalls involve defective batteries, this latest one is due to a manufacturing defect during engine production. According to documents provided by Jeep to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a supplier failed to use the proper cleaning process after casting the engine block, which may have left some sand behind. This debris could cause a catastrophic engine failure or a vehicle fire.

Before this happens, drivers may notice a knocking noise coming from the engine or an illuminated check engine light on the dashboard.

This is the fourth time some of these vehicles have been recalled, and many of them already can’t be parked outside or charged due to an ongoing battery recall

A fix for this latest engine problem is not yet available. Jeep says it will send two notices to owners, one in December to alert them to the problem, and another as soon as they can have their vehicles repaired. As with all recalls, this fix will be free.
