Lexus, Subaru, and Toyota EVs Recalled for Foggy Windows
A problem with the climate control system on the Lexus RZ, Subaru Solterra, and Toyota bZ4X means the defroster and defogger might not work
Nearly 95,000 electric cars are being recalled because their defrosters and defoggers may not work, which could make it difficult to see out the windshield while driving. The affected vehicles are the 2023-2025 Lexus RZ, Subaru Solterra, and Toyota bZ4x.
Toyota and Subaru Defroster Recall Details
Vehicles recalled: Subaru Solterra EVs manufactured between March 29, 2022, and June 3, 2025; Lexus RZ EVs manufactured between January 23, 2023, and June 12, 2025; and Toyota bZ4x EVs manufactured between March 30, 2022, and June 12, 2025.
The problem: If the climate system’s electrical compressor enters a specific failure mode, the climate control software may enter a failsafe mode that suspends heater operation and stops the defroster from working. This can reduce driver visibility and increase the risk of a crash.
The fix: Dealers will update the climate control engine control unit (ECU) software, free of charge. They will also inspect and, if necessary, replace the electrical compressor for free.
How to contact the manufacturer: Owners may contact Toyota at 1-800-331-4331.
NHTSA campaign number: 25V577. Toyota’s own numbers for this recall are 25TB07 and 25TA07. Lexus’s numbers for this recall are 25LB04 and 25LA04. Subaru’s number for this recall is WRD-25.
