Knowing how much you might like—or even love—your vehicle would be a pretty valuable insight as you go about researching your next car purchase. And even if you take it for a test drive, how will you know whether you’ll like your new ride once the honeymoon period is over?

To help with that problem, Consumer Reports asks members each year about their car purchases. They provide great insights by answering one question: If you had to do it all over again, would you definitely buy or lease the same model?

More on New Car Satisfaction and Reliability

Combined with CR’s test and reliability ratings, our owner satisfaction ratings give you valuable guidance when you’re shopping for a vehicle. (Detailed information is available on our car model pages.)

Below, we’ve ranked the new electric vehicles (EVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and gas-electric hybrids based on Overall Satisfaction Scores from our latest survey. We also noted whether those top scorers excelled in any of these subcategories: styling, driving experience, comfort, in-car electronics ease of use, and ownership cost. In the event of a tie, two or three models are listed.

Not every category will have a least-satisfying model, because either the category has too few eligible vehicles or none of them have a rating below average.

If you’re a CR member, the list below is already available to you. Members can also click each model to see how satisfied owners are with their vehicles across several aspects of their car ownership experience, such as comfort, driving enjoyment, ease of use of in-car electronics, and overall value.
