What Owners Say
"Rough shifting and shifting at odd times. Sometimes hangs up in lower gear and engine hi-revs. Sometimes lurches when stopping and at initial acceleration. My guess is that adjustment of transmission pressures will help but have not taken in to dealer as yet."
Brad S., CA (2018 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 3.6-L V6)"As is a known problem with the CHEVROLET Colorado's 8-speed transmission, I experience extremely hard downshifts during the first time I come to a complete stop after the vehicle is started. It often feels like the vehicle just got rear ended. The dealership has told me that it is a normal operating characteristic of the vehicle."
Jonathan B., IA (2018 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 3.6-L V6)"Rough shifting into neutral when coming to a stop."
Anonymous, GA (2018 Chevrolet Colorado LT 3.6-L V6)"The rough shifting has happened only once that I recall and has not been an issue in the past 8,000 miles."
Anonymous, NC (2018 Chevrolet Colorado LT 3.6-L V6)"There was a problem with the 8 speed automatic transmission, that GM said was caused by the fluid that was originally used. The original fluid was hygroscopic and a new fluid was developed. The transmission was flushed and refilled with the new and improved fluid. I am cautiously testing this “fix” for the next few hundred miles. The symptoms were a shudder/vibration at certain speeds that is covered in GM Bulletin #16-NA-175."
Anonymous, IL (2018 Chevrolet Colorado LT 3.6-L V6)"At 2000 miles developed a torque converter vibration, was repaired wit a fluid flush, shortly after that developed a very rough shift when cold, dealer has not been able to repair problem contacted gm and they were no help at all and no support"
Anonymous, NY (2018 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 3.6-L V6)"TSB-Chevrolet changed the transmission fluid to a different type."
Anonymous, (2018 Chevrolet Colorado LT 3.6-L V6)"Apparently these have had a shutter in the transmission which a fluid change helped a little. But still have some issues"
Anonymous, TN (2018 Chevrolet Colorado LT 3.6-L V6)"When cold, the upshift thru lower gears is rough."
Anonymous, NC (2018 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 3.6-L V6)"Was slipping when at certain speeds. Corrected by dealer changing the transmission fluid"
Anonymous, NY (2018 Chevrolet Colorado WT 3.6-L V6)"After about 12 month the transmission started slipping a bit around the 55mph +-5 mph. It started getting worse around the 14 month range and I finally contacted CHEVROLET at the 18 months. CHEVROLET was aware of the potential problem but did not considered it necessary to do a Recall on the trucks. The dealer changed the Transmission fluid because CHEVROLET said that the original was hydroscopic and absorbed water from atmosphere. New fluid eliminated the problem. CHEVROLET said that if it ever came back then the torque Converter will be changed. There was no cost to me for the process."
Anonymous, PR (2018 Chevrolet Colorado WT 3.6-L V6)"The lines from transmission to cooler leaked. As there is no sensor for fluid level, and no dipstick, I didn't realize it until the transmission stopped working -- 1000 miles from home, of course -- although it apparently was not damaged. As this problem is not common, parts had to be shipped from Michigan to California. Later, a transmission seal was found to be leaking."
Brian S., WA (2018 Chevrolet Colorado LT 2.8-L 4 Cyl diesel)"The lines to the transmission cooler leaked when the vehicle was new, although I didn't realize it at the time. Since that was repaired, every time I have the oil changed I have them check for a new leak, and every time they find one. Four different seals or gaskets have been replaced so far, and it might have another leak now."
Anonymous, WA (2018 Chevrolet Colorado LT 2.8-L 4 Cyl diesel)
"The rough shifting is associated with the torque converter issue discussed previously."
Richard P., NC (2018 Chevrolet Colorado WT 3.6-L V6)
