What Owners Say
"very good acceleration. Getting on the interstate safely by quickly matching highway speed."
Robert D., KY (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"I love to drive this car. It handles wonderfully, takes bumps in the road with no disturbance to the passengers, it tracks nicely. It is a tad weak on acceleration, no doubt due to the fact that it is a 4 cylinder vehicle weighing over 4000 lbs."
Anonymous, MA (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"On accelaration there is a slight pause before it gets up to speed"
Patty J., WA (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"I bought the 4 cylinder because I wanted better gas mileage, but it's very slow when merging into traffic, passing, or when I need quick acceleration. I wish I had ordered the 6 cylinder instead."
Michael V., IL (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"It has sluggish acceleration and has NEVER gotten the 30 MPH posted as highway mileage on the window sticker. I log every gallon of gas I put in the car and record its mileage for every tankful I buy. The best it has ever gotten was 27 MPH and that was 100% highway driving. I normally drive a mix of city and highway and usually get 22 to 24 in those conditions."
Anonymous, TX (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"Acceleration is weak. 4cy is too small for the weight of the vehicle"
Anonymous, NJ (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"This vehicle has a four cylinder engine. It gets up and moves pretty well - but the squirrels scream a lot when I put my foot into it."
Patricia A., CA (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"Very poor accleration. Should get the v6 if have the option. Handling is okay with some body lean. Can be choppy around corners and doesn't handle bumps all that well. Sometime vehicle will hesitate when stepping on gas."
Timothy R., MA (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"My Equinox LTZ has 19" tires and rides like a sedan rather than an SUV"
Anonymous, OH (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"Poor acceleration. Handling is fine."
Gordon Y., PA (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"Engine is underpowered, rough and noisy (4 cyl.)"
Anonymous, CA (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"It has surprising good acceleration for a 4 cylinder auto and its handling is very good."
George C., MI (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"Neither. We bought the vehicle for a very particular need. Other than an everyday drive for my husband, we use it as our tow vehicle behind our motorhome. Most importantly the truck allows us to put our Goldwing motorcycle in the bed of the truck and keep the allowable tow weight at the motorhome mfg suggested limits."
Anonymous, FL (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"The 4 cylinders makes for poor acceleration"
Anonymous, NJ (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"Dry comfortable but acceleration is labored especially when getting in expressway. Front passenger side has a wide column that blocks my view of vehicles approaching fro the right. This is dangerous situation and has almost caused accidents on a few occasions."
Anonymous, IL (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"Fantasyic for winter driving! Goes anywhere!"
Gilbert P., WA (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"it whines a lot when accelerating"
Anonymous, VA (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"The best handling auto I have ever had. Acceleration is not very good."
L L., FL (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"The handling is great. It takes curves, bumps, you name it, all in stride. The acceleration is surprisingly good for a little 4 cylinder engine."
Bruce D., MA (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"Very bad acceleration but it's my fault for ordering the 4 cylinder in the hopes of better gas mileage. I wish I had gotten the 6 cylinder."
Mike V., IL (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"Handles very nicely, even in bad weather"
Anonymous, IL (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"The vehicle handled good before the engine and transmission problems."
Brandon L., IA (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"Acceleration and handling are great. I thoroughly enjoy driving this vehicle."
Anonymous, WI (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"V6 is great"
Earl R., BC (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"For a 4 cylinder the vehicle has acceptable acceleration if not sporty."
Anonymous, NY (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"Great handling on open road In town engine is rough and noisy"
Anonymous, IN (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"The engine starts up and runs rough with hesitant acceleration and uses a lot of oil."
Lynn B., IN (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"Easy to drive and park. Comfortable ride."
Anonymous, TX (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"OK ride but 4 cy engine not overly peppy. Towed a U-Haul trailer with no problems."
Anonymous, NC (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"This car has no acceleration or minimal acceleration. Craps out on hills and makes one nervous when getting on highway that it is going to xxxxx out trying to gain acceleration. The transmission stinks."
Anonymous, CT (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"Engine chatter, irregular transmission shifting, but otherwise very satisfied with vehicle."
WILLIAM F., IN (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"A four cylinder in this vehicle is a joke, I should have known better to think that the 4 cylinder would have enough horsepower to make this a comfortable ride. Too much up and down shifting in order to be able to maintain speed."
Anonymous, MO (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"4 cylinder has very poor pick up. Seems like engine is just too small for the weight of the vehicle."
Anonymous, NJ (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"it drives and handles well unless you need to accelerate. It's slow to accelerate and jumps forward when it finally "kicks in.""
DONNA F., TX (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"Excelleration fair. Handling very good"
Anonymous, NC (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"I experience hesitation when the engine is cold or when driving 30 miles an hour or less"
Anonymous, IL (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"The vehicle is underpowered with the standard 4 cylinder engine."
Anonymous, MI (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"1st gear is too low for normal driving. I wish I could use it only on the rare occasions that I actually need it. I think that might also help the hesitation issues in 1st and 2nd gears."
ANDREW K., MI (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"Does not handle real well in snowy conditions."
Anonymous, IA (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"It could use better accereleration."
Anonymous, IL (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"The only bad thing about this Equinox is the headrests prevent a clear view behind. The ECCO system is most notable on my 8 hr. drive trips. One stop for gas. The city gas mileage isn't that good but that's expected. This SUV holds a lot of stuff--more than you could get in a regular sedan."
Anonymous, TX (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"Engine is 4-cyc. Way too small. Very disappointed."
Anonymous, MD (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"I have a 4 cylinder engine which provides very satisfactory acceleration while providing excellent highway mileage of 37 miles per imperial gallon"
Anonymous, BC (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"Even though it is a 4cyl, I don't need a 6 cyl like I did in Pittsburgh. Still, it handled the mountains we'll both up and down. Mathis is my second Equinox. I loved the first one, 2005, and live this one!"
Anonymous, NC (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"I drive a 6 cylinder and find it handles well with fairly good acceleration."
VINCEN D., BC (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"4 cylinder engine got loud, gas mileage dropped, hesitation, dealer can;'t fix and now burns several quarts of oil per oil change."
Anonymous, OH (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"Turning radius makes parking or backing in smaller spaces difficult"
Anonymous, IA (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"Acceleration is much slower than other vehicles we've owned. It is especially a concern when merging into an interstate."
KATHRYN W., KY (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"Too slow on initial acceleration."
ELIZABETH B., PA (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"Acceleration poor and noisey. Car developed many sqweaks"
Anonymous, NY (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"too many blind spots.poor acceleration."
DAVID C., OH (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"When you step on the gas it hesitates and stutters."
Anonymous, ME (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"Weak, noisy, raspy acceleration. Transmission hunts between gears when acceleration is needed at all speeds"
LYNN B., IN (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"The Cruise Control is very slow to respond to minor inclines. There is a 4 to 5 MPH loss before the transmission shifts enough times to allow the engine to catch the speed up to the setting. Very Frustrating! Enough so that my satisfaction level suffers."
CARON B., WA (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"I live at the foot of a mountain and it does great in the snow."
Anonymous, PA (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)"The 4 cylinder engine is really not powerful enough for the type of driving I do. We live in the Catskills (lots of hill) and I usually have a lot of weight in the car. However these were not factors when I bought the car."
Anonymous, NY (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)
"The four cylinder engine is kind of sluggish and the transmission is slow to downshift"
Anonymous, OK (2011 Chevrolet Equinox)
