Driving Experience
Includes acceleration and handling
What Owners Say
"The vehicle is woefully underpowered and has difficulty accelerating in traffic. It is a challenge to drive on the highway because the acceleration isn't there."
Marc L., WI (2017 Chevrolet Equinox)"Very good acceleration with the V6 engine option. The AWD works well in snow/rain and provides a solid feel on dry pavement as well. However, the gas mileage could be better."
Anonymous, NJ (2017 Chevrolet Equinox)"This is the 4th Equinox that I have leased. I only wish my 4 liter engine had more pickup pulling out on highway."
Anonymous, NJ (2017 Chevrolet Equinox)"Stiff ride. takes bumps a little roughly, acceleration is adequate, but I would buy larger engine next time."
Anonymous, MN (2017 Chevrolet Equinox)"Totally under powered on acceleration"
Anonymous, MA (2017 Chevrolet Equinox)"Acceleration is much much better than on the older model I had (2013)."
Anonymous, NY (2017 Chevrolet Equinox)"Our 6 cylinder Equinox has mediocre acceleration. It should be better (needs improvement). Another disappointment is that you cannot control the temperature of the air coming out of the heater in winter. It is either hot or not. The controls on my old 1996 Oldsmobile Ciera were better because you could control how hot the air was out of the heater. Also, the voice on the build in GPS is too soft and hard to hear."
Howard K., IL (2017 Chevrolet Equinox)"Would have preferred a v-6 engine but it's L/100km rating was too high"
Anonymous, ON (2017 Chevrolet Equinox)"IT SEEMS A BIT SLUGGISH ON ACCELERATION. ALSO THE FUEL MILEAGE IS NOT WHAT I EXPECTED."
Ben M., OH (2017 Chevrolet Equinox)"AWD works great in moderate snowy road conditions. Acceleration with the 6cyl engine is excellent and handling is commendable for this type of (high) vehicle."
Anonymous, NJ (2017 Chevrolet Equinox)"GREAT acceleration for an SUV. It was the last v-6 in the Equinoux. Handles well for a higher SUV c.g."
Kent K., MI (2017 Chevrolet Equinox)"Handling is good but not outstanding. The 2.4 liter Ecotec motor needs more power to satisfy me. The 2018 has dealt with this by adding a turbo to the 2 available engines"
Ron N., ON (2017 Chevrolet Equinox)"The car is the standard base model L with the 2.4L engine and 6 speed automatic transmission (not a CVT which I wouldn’t have). It has amazing power and strong fast shifting transmission. I had the same engine with a 5 speed manual in a 2007 Saturn Sky that didn’t perform nearly as well as this Equinox."
Robert P., TN (2017 Chevrolet Equinox)"Easy steering, acceleration responds immediately, handles more smoothly than previous cars."
Anonymous, AZ (2017 Chevrolet Equinox)"Pooracceleration and sloppy handling"
Anonymous, VA (2017 Chevrolet Equinox)"These 2.4 L engines are good but noisy. Otherwise it’s quite comfortable and gets great mileage. Handles great on the highway."
Earnest S., MO (2017 Chevrolet Equinox)"the engine is under powered for the car. accelerating onto a highway is difficult. the car cant get out of its own shadow so you have to be sure you have enough time and with the giant blind spots out the windows and using the small side view mirrors this is difficult. several times I've started to merge only to hear someone blasting a horn."
Joseph M., NJ (2017 Chevrolet Equinox)
"very poor acceleration and low power"
Mark G., NY (2017 Chevrolet Equinox)
