What Owners Say
"184 HP is not enough for a car of this size"
Anonymous, NC (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"Even in the ECO mode, it zips around a slow-moving truck easily."
MICHAEL K., IA (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"I had a 2013 Equinox withe the 4 cylinder engine. Acceleration was OK but not good for passing at highway speeds. The 2016 I have now has a 301 HP six cylinder. It's a game changer. Mileage is only slightly less but you don't have foot in it all the time. It's a lot quieter and smoother too."
Anonymous, NJ (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"Could use more acceleration and better rear window visability"
Anonymous, CA (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"Rides and handles great. Cloth seats are what they are"
ALAN B., KS (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"4cyl. Acceleration is pathetic Also the gas mileage. Most go-carts have better acceleration than this crappy engine."
WALLY W., IL (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"nice handling and driving car"
Anonymous, TX (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"We have the LTZ trim with the 6 cylinder. It's very quick & fun to drive, it's also all wheel drive witch is great in winter weather. We will most likely lease another or the traverse depending on the deals at time of lease end."
TOM C., MI (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"Very slow acceleration when ac is on"
Anonymous, MI (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"The SUV is under powered with the 4 cylinder engine, and the six speed transmission is constantly up and down shifting to compensate."
Anonymous, MD (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"I am 6' 4" and 250# have all the legroom I need as the driver. I would be able to sit behind someone my size and also have good legroom . Ride and acceleration is just fine with the 4-something you people continually downgrade."
Anonymous, SC (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"The acceleration and the turning radius are somewhat better than my 2012 Equinox but could be smoother & tighter"
Anonymous, CT (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"Handling, styling, pickup. Just very satisfied and this is the second Equinox we own, we also had a GMC Terrain which was also very nice. We bought the Malibu to have a car instead of two SUV's."
PETER C., NJ (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"I had read Consumer Reports regarding earlier models of the Equinox and there were comments about poor acceleration. The 2016 model LS has excellent acceleration including pulling a trailer."
THOMAS S., CO (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"Acceleration"
DENNIS L., OH (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"undersized and some rattles in body.."
WILLIAM P., NJ (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"I was driving 6 cylinders got better acceleration than with a 4 cylinders. I will get use to 4 again."
Anonymous, IL (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"All I have is 511 km so far so good"
GILBERT G., AB (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"Acceleration, handling and comfort"
RENATE J., SC (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"Acceleration should be better with a V6 engine."
ROGER J., NM (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"We got the six cylinder but are disappointed in the acceleration."
Anonymous, MI (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"Too much road noise"
Anonymous, MI (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"The vehicle is heavy and the 2.4L engine is underpowered, mlimitkng acceleration Handling is predictable, steering tracks quite well, with no on line correction needed"
LOUIS M., NY (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"Adequate for a 4cylinder"
JAMES S., MN (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"The vehicle has very good acceleration and handles curves very well"
Anonymous, NH (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"Easy to handle and you don't feel tired after hitting the road"
TOM A., IL (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"Could use a little more front end power. With the A/C running, you must be careful pulling out and accelerating in traffic. At the top end it does just fine."
Anonymous, OH (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"It would be nice to have more power."
GEORGE B., AL (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"The 2.4 engine is terrible. Merging into fast traffic is dangerous. The handling is sufficient, but not terrific."
Anonymous, PA (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"It has a bigger engine and accelerates when you need it most. Handles well on the road."
Anonymous, PA (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"V6 engine provides plenty of power and All Wheel Drive is great in any weather."
Anonymous, PA (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"Very sure-footed in in-climate weather. Acceleration is not very good. We traded the better performance of the v-6 for the better fuel economy of the 4 cylinder."
Daniel S., NY (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"The power steering is somewhat stiff it is difficult to make very sharp turns absolute speeds it takes a lot of effort."
Anonymous, IN (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"V4 and you can feel the pull when U try to accelerate (i.e., into oncoming traffic from a ramp). Handles well enough. But going up hills -- better get in the right lanes"
Anonymous, NJ (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"everything about it"
Anonymous, MN (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"I would consider this vehicle a little underpowered. Not much horsepower for a 4,000 lb AWD SUV. Other than this the driving experience is very good. You sit up higher with good seating position and a roomy rear seat.."
Gregg H., MN (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"Acceleration is not the best in this vehicle. On hills it strains to keep up."
Anonymous, MO (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"Rough handling over uneven road.."
Anonymous, NJ (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"Four cylinder engine is too under powered. Lacks acceleration abiity and downshifts excessively pn hills."
Anonymous, WI (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"Acceleration is sluggish at best. Also, the transmissiin has a very harsh downshift, which is annoying. At times it's so harsh, it feel as though I had been rearended."
Anonymous, WI (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"very slow accelleration. top heavy, can tilt over if not careful"
Anonymous, FL (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"Good acceleration, good handling."
Anonymous, AZ (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"I am very happy w/ the performance of this SUV, w/ the 4 cyl. engine. It also rides & handles well."
Howard U., MI (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"The vehicle handles very well on corners. The acceleration is the biggest disappointment in this SUV. The engine is undersized for this size of vehicle with a 4-cylinder. The responsiveness is very much lacking and a total disappointment; this is the worst thing about the Equinox."
Anonymous, IL (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"Although equipped with non turbo four cylinder I feel it has adequate pickup and handles well and it certainly gives great gas mileage."
Donald C., NY (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"The 4 cylinder engine is awful, it has too little power."
Bob N., PA (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"not enough power. Acceleration is too slow."
Anonymous, NY (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"The 6 cylinder engine provides adequate acceleration when needed. Handling is very good."
Anonymous, ON (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"It’s good."
Anonymous, SC (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"The ride is smooth and comfortable for drivers and passengers. The noise level needs to be improved"
Chris R., WI (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"Acceleration and handling is excellent. Automatic transmission searches too much."
Jeffrey P., MA (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"a bit sluggish"
Anonymous, ON (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"The 4 cylinder is under powered for mountain driving. Our prior 2010 equinox had the 6 cylinder and was much better"
Anonymous, AZ (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"I like how the Equinox handles, great for long trips. Acceleration is ok but could be better."
Douglas C., WI (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"Drives great and I feel very secure driving it . Hugs the road like a dream Only thing I would change next time is that I think I want to try a 6 cyl. instead of a 4 cyl. I really works going over steep mountains but never heated up or anything. so it did a good job buy I want to get a popup trailer."
Anonymous, WA (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"Acceleration is great with the 301 HP engine. The reviews prior to driving were less than satisfactory for acceleration to pass and too much lean on curves. I drive mountain curves and the lean is what I would rate as good."
Anonymous, CO (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)"The vehicle offers a lot for what it cost. On the downside it is underpowered. A 4000 pound SUV needs a larger engine. The vehicle performs OK for daily driving, but lacks acceleration, if needed. It also is too underpowered to tow anything. Gas mileage is less than the Forester I previously had, even though they both have about the same interior size. The Forester was not as quiet as the Equinox."
Dennis R., MI (2016 Chevrolet Equinox)
"as expected the four cylinder is a little under powered but most noticeable is the transmission. Especially when starting out it reminds me of a centrifugal clutch in that you have to rev the engine to get it to engage and start moving in reverse."
