Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. The payload rating is generous. We appreciate the selectable full-time 4WD and standard stability control on all V8-equipped Silverados. 2009 also brought a new six-speed automatic transmission that improved acceleration. Braking distances on wet pavement were also improved. The diesel engine in the heavy-duty Silverado 2500 LTZ (which we also tested) proved to be relatively civilized. A hybrid version was available too. On the other hand, IIHS side-crash test results were disappointing.

"Had to replace electrical fuel pump module, which makes you fuel pump work. It is located underneath and attached to the bed and its an electronic device located behind the fuel tank. Once it is replaced, it needs to be linked into your vehicle computer system through a computer connection. It's very expensive. It cost me $900.00 to have the fuel pump module replaced and linked to my computer system. They had my truck for a week, so I had to borrow a vehicle from a friend"

Anonymous, WI (2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 WT 5.3-L V8)

The other problem was it used a lot more fuel, than normal, because of having an O2 sensor/oxygen sensor problem. I decided to replace all four. There is two in each catylitic converter. I bought all four from AutoZone but they didn't sink in with my truck, so I returned them. I bought all four from the dealership, and they sinked in and worked right"
