This Texas-size wagon becomes your home-on-wheels on a long cross country trip. Ride, handling and braking are much improved over its truck-like predecessor. The Suburban seats eight comfortably with room for their luggage. Parking is still awkward and fuel economy is not great.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

“great person capacity and storage”

Anonymous, UT (2004 Chevrolet Suburban)

“This is a 2500 with an 8.1L engine. It will pass everything but a gas station! Even when towing a 10,000lb camper. It rides fairly smoothly considering what it is, but it certainly is not a luxury car ride.”

GEORGE M., NE (2004 Chevrolet Suburban)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“Great a/c and tinted windows. Comfortable ride and moderate road noise. Long wheel base helps ride. A/C has required no maintainece yet at 135k.”

ALFRED M., TX (2004 Chevrolet Suburban)

“inside space I love it, its hight form the groud give me confidece, its size protects me, it is reliable, i know all aount it and do not have to lear new tricks nor where to take it for service with a good price”

Anonymous, TX (2004 Chevrolet Suburban)

“Expensive repairs needed for failed ac sensor and actuator. Front and rear wheel bearings failed costing several thousand dollars due to required replacement assembly design.”

DENNIS B., CA (2004 Chevrolet Suburban)

“It has a boomy, low frequency ambient interior noise when driving without cargo in back. Standard cloth seats are very comfortable. Climate control has always worked fine for heating and cooling.”

GARRET V., WA (2004 Chevrolet Suburban)

“It accommodates my height.”

Anonymous, AL (2004 Chevrolet Suburban)

“This is a very comfortable car to drive:roomy, good cloth seats, much cargo space, handy for carrying the occasional large purchase, the air conditioning is adequate, and no noise.”

G A., CA (2004 Chevrolet Suburban)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

“This vehicle will handle 9 and pull a load.”

JIM M., MN (2004 Chevrolet Suburban)

“We paid $5000 for this vehicle and we tow utility trailers, RV units weighing 8000 lbs, a pontoon boat and trailer with ease. We travel about 10000 a year on average with these items and I would by another one but with a larger engine (2500).”

DOROTHY M., IN (2004 Chevrolet Suburban)

“Very satisfied as the annual depreciation is very low.”

Anonymous, LA (2004 Chevrolet Suburban)

“We can fit 4x8 sheets of plywood flat in the back (with seats removed) and load amazing amounts of cargo easily. For our purposes that compensated considerably for the less than stellar fuel efficiency.”

GARRET V., WA (2004 Chevrolet Suburban)

“Excellent vehicle: very comfortable, yet durable inside and out, and excellent mechanically. I pull trailers from time to time, and it is always up to the task. Only drawback is everyone always wants us to take our Suburban on trips of any length.”

TED K., TX (2004 Chevrolet Suburban)

“No expenses except under-hood hoses and belts and tires in 90,000 miles.”

H B., FL (2004 Chevrolet Suburban)

Percentage of owners who would definitely purchase that same vehicle again. Owner-satisfaction Ratings are determined by the percentage of those who answered "definitely yes" to the question asked by the Consumer Reports Annual Auto Survey "Considering all factors (price, performance, reliability, comfort, enjoyment, etc.), would you get this car if you had to do it all over again?". If we don’t have sufficient data, a similar model might be used to form the owner-satisfaction score.
