Going back as far as 1984 with the debut of the Dodge Caravan, Chrysler ruled the family-hauling roost for many years. But the march of time proved challenging, as knockoffs from Honda and Toyota surpassed the original. Now, Chrysler is back with a vengeance.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2018 Chrysler Pacifica owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

CD or DVD players, radio, speakers, GPS, communication system (e.g., OnStar), display screen freezes or goes blank, phone pairing (e.g. Bluetooth), voice control commands, steering wheel controls, portable music device interface (e.g., iPod/MP3 player), backup or other camera/sensors.

What Owners Say

Apple CarPlay

"It works, but sometimes the passenger doesn't want to use it. How to change that behavior is unknown."

Anonymous, OH (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Touring-L Plus 3.6-L V6)
Display screen freezes up

"The screen will lock up on occasion not allowing you to change the climate control settings or adjust the radio etc. since everything is pretty much controlled by the radio screen."

Andrew M., PA (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Limited 3.6-L V6)

"The display screens sometimes freezes up and will not allow a dvd to play. Sometimes it ‘fixes’ itself, other times we need to shut the car off and start over. Sometimes it just won’t play and we drive home and let the car sit. Later, it may be fine."

Scott M., OH (2018 Chrysler Pacifica 3.6-L V6)

"Appears to be an anti-theft code that isn't received properly by the radio / display controller, causing it to lock up and prevents using the touch screen. It is in intermittent problem, but happens several times a week. Very annoying. sometimes get a screen asking to manually enter code, but can't get dealership to provide me the code. Should be able to disable this anti-theft procedure, but apparently can't"

Anonymous, VA (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid 3.6-L V6 plug-in hybrid)

"Intermittently would ask for anti-theft code on startup. This was fixed by an over the air update from Chrysler."

Anonymous, AZ (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid 3.6-L V6 plug-in hybrid)

"See previous comment - same holds true."

Anonymous, CA (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid 3.6-L V6 plug-in hybrid)

"Occasionally asks for 4 digit pin to enable anti-theft radio. Turning car off, waiting 5 seconds or so, and turning back on often clears the issue."

Gerald G., IL (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Limited 3.6-L V6 plug-in hybrid)
Display screen goes blank

"From what I read online, this is a somewhat common problem with this vehicle. The display screen goes blank and will you only work again if you pull the fuse, wait a minute, and plug the fuse back in."

Jack H., IL (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid 3.6-L V6 plug-in hybrid)

"Intermittent loss of screen without warning nor identifiable risk factors for it, with resultant loss of all electronic options and controls. Sometimes requires stopping and restarting the vehicle, but it has always resolved within a minute or so. Working with Chrysler currently to try to resolve the problem, along with a couple others."

Anonymous, IA (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Platinum 3.6-L V6)

"Once every three or four months when I start the car in the morning, the display is either blank or asks for an anti-theft radio code. The problem does not affect the actual driving of the car and resolves itself when I next use the car."

Anna M., TX (2018 Chrysler Pacifica 3.6-L V6 plug-in hybrid)

"Intermittent blank screen on startup. Was fixed by over the air update from Chrysler."

Anonymous, AZ (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid 3.6-L V6 plug-in hybrid)

"1) Asked for a security PIN in error so you couldn't use the system. 2) Would continually re-boot rendering it useless. The only workaround was to make sure it had a destination programmed. Both problems fixed by automated software update rolled out several weeks after the problems were encountered."

Stephen W., NJ (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid 3.6-L V6 plug-in hybrid)

"The U-Connect display has gone blank numerous times starting 11/3/2017, the 1st week of ownership - no radio, no blue-tooth, no navigation, no heater control readout, no entertainment system. The van has been in the dealership multiple times for this issue and has been in the dealership for the past 3 weeks with an unrecoverable failure. FCA's U-Connect is OK when it works, however, our U-Connect has been extremely unreliable."

Anonymous, CA (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid 3.6-L V6 plug-in hybrid)

"display will go blank when trying to view rear entertainment controls. sometimes will come back without shutting off vehicle and sometimes will not"

Anonymous, MO (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Limited 3.6-L V6)

"They replaced the radio completely and the problem has not recurred."

Anonymous, PA (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Limited 3.6-L V6 plug-in hybrid)

"The infotainment system goes completely blank, disabling all radio, phone, GPS, backup camera, climate control, and informational systems until a fuse is reset or the problem resolves itself after the vehicle rests for ~12-24 hours."

David L., CA (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Touring-L Plus 3.6-L V6)

"Display screen goes blank when the car tries to download an update. Also sometimes it asks for an anti-theft code, which I don't have and the dealer (River Oaks Chrysler) seems clueless about."

Anna M., TX (2018 Chrysler Pacifica 3.6-L V6 plug-in hybrid)
External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"Free year of Sirius XM never worked. Neither dealer nor vendor could explain why or get it working. So the 'free' year was never provided, and neither party offered any rebate for the lack of product"

Anonymous, FL (2018 Chrysler Pacifica 3.6-L V6)

"After connecting an external device, the system would not play the MP3 recording, and subsequently the radio would not operate. After a stop at a dealer, the system was reprogrammed, and the problem apparently is solved. The problem occurred within the first 300 miles the vehicle was in use."

Anonymous, OK (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Touring-L Plus 3.6-L V6)
In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"I use google maps and Wise some times the screen freezes and can't connect I use the smartphone independently. I took the Pacifica to the dealership for repair and I was told the system is working as it's supposed to. I considered filing a suit for all the problems but decided not to. I think I got a bad vehicle since many buyers would buy it again."

Anonymous, TX (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Limited 3.6-L V6)

"The navigation system failed completely. The dealer replaced the radio twice to solve the problem."

David B., NC (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Touring-L 3.6-L V6)

"Mapping software has started providing odd and circuitous routing using side streets. Settings don’t allow me to adjust options. No longer trust the route. Apple Maps and Google Maps are reliable"

Anonymous, OR (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Touring-L Plus 3.6-L V6)

"It sucks. I have to use google maps to find a good route, then let the thing recalculate. Horrible default settings. Also, the passenger cannot enter some things while driving, making it useless for some changes while driving."

Anonymous, OH (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Touring-L Plus 3.6-L V6)

"UConnect does not work. Dealer cannot fix."

James W., MD (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid 3.6-L V6 plug-in hybrid)

"the GPS and the android systems joined up with the command system and overwhelmed me and i returned it to the leaser after 4 hours!"

Roger P., MO (2018 Chrysler Pacifica LX 3.6-L V6)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"I am unable to pair my phone. I am working with Chrysler to resolve this."

Anonymous, IA (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Platinum 3.6-L V6)

"After replacing radio texts weren’t consistently being read by system. They did an update of the system, and it fixed it"

Anonymous, PA (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Limited 3.6-L V6 plug-in hybrid)

"Phone and other devices will pair and stay paired while driving. But when the car is turned off the devices will not pair up on re-start. Chrysler attempted to initial solve with a software update that did not solve the problem. The car is at the dealership right now to address this problem."

Anonymous, IN (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Touring-L 3.6-L V6)
Radio

"No Am or Fm reception"

Scott F., TX (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Limited 3.6-L V6)

"Approximately once in every 5 operations, all radio stations turn to static, as if there were no operating antenna on the car."

Anonymous, FL (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Touring-L 3.6-L V6)

"At dealer 8 days - replaced radio. Not resolved. another dealer replaced antenna - radio works but all pre=sets deleted. Some functions are different or no longer work."

Floyd J., FL (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Touring-L 3.6-L V6)

"Does not understand my requests"

James W., MD (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid 3.6-L V6 plug-in hybrid)

"The serpentine belt idler pulley bearing failed at 4000 miles while driving on I-95 at 9:30 pm on a Sunday night. We were 700 miles from home. Chrysler paid for the towing and the repair, but it took 2 days. I don't think the small dealer in Orangeburg, SC had ever worked on a Pacifica engine. I have submitted a claim for travel interruption, but have not heard if it is approved."

D C., OH (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Touring-L Plus 3.6-L V6)
Engine computer

"Van was recalled add a firmware fix. The fix broke the car but screwing up the engine timing. The incorrect timing poured unburned fuel into exhaust which then destroyed to catalytic converters. It also caused the van to die at a stop light, requiring a tow to the nearest dealer."

"choke throttle failed disabling the car"

Anonymous, NY (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Touring-L Plus 3.6-L V6)
Oil leaks

"The cap for the oil was designed in such a way that it was easy to overtighten and break the seal, thus causing oil to leak out under pressure. The dealer accidentally overtightened the cap, and I lost almost all oil 5 miles out of the dealer. They refunded the cost of the oil change and paid for the 5 quarts of oil and the funnel I had to purchase to get it back to the dealer."

What Owners Say

Transmission computer

"There was a recall of the Powertrain Control Module. There was a possibility of the engine starting up out of phase with the electric motors . One of the symptoms of the recall is that it can cause extra fuel to go into the exhaust system which explains the explosion that earlier took out both catalytic converters."

Anonymous, IL (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid 3.6-L V6 plug-in hybrid)

"The nine speed transmission is constantly shifting causing a rather jerky ride. When you take your foot off the gas it takes quite a while for the vehicle to respond and slow down. The Cruise Control is very bothersome. The constant shifting causes a jerky ride even on slight to moderate inclines. Worst transmission I have had in 12 or more Chrysler vehicles. Other Pacifica owners are having the same observations. Very poor transmission. Dealers unable to make it as smooth as it should be, and as previous Chryslers have been."

It would not get to the ‘Ready to Drive’ state so it wouldn’t drive at all. We had to have it towed to the dealership. We were told the cause of the failure was that the regular battery had failed and without it being properly charged, the car wouldn’t start. They replaced the battery and updated all the software and the car is now running fine."

Gary T., CA (2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid 3.6-L V6 plug-in hybrid)
