Owner Reports

Worse Better
Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Satisfaction Owner Satisfaction To learn about satisfaction, CR has collected survey data from our annual survey on more than half a million vehicles. Our subscribers provide great insights into their satisfaction by answering one simple question: If they had it to do all over again, would they definitely buy or lease the same model? In addition, respondents also rate their cars in six categories: driving experience, comfort, value, styling, audio, and climate systems. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

Brakes

Antilock system (ABS), parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, rotors, pulsation or vibration, squeaking, brake failure or wear.

What Owners Say

Antilock system (ABS)

"ABS control module failed shortly after I purchased the vehicle, most likely because the car had been driven very little in the previous year. I did the repair myself, $300 for the module, and then I had to take the car to the dealership to have the new module programmed,$125. Had I let the dealership do the entire repair, it would have cost $1100."

"Having to repair brakes every 18 months or so."

John N., OH (2010 Dodge Grand Caravan SE 3.8-L V6)

"I live in Canada, and the last few years haven't driven the car much. Corrosion, particularly with the rear rotors has been a big problem. Brake job after brake job. The last one that really pissed me off is I replaced rear calipers, rotors and pads, as well as front pads 2 years ago. Within a year I had pulsating (rotor trouble) and after 2 years (and 3000km) I had to replace all the rotors and pads. I bought expensive aftermarket stuff too; top of the line."

Reita V., IN (2010 Dodge Grand Caravan Hero 3.8-L V6)

"The failure of the Remote engine starter stems from a much more serious issue. The TIPUM (electrical brain of the vehicle) is faulty, and it doesn't always send the signal for the vehicle to start. We've had starting issues with our van for months, and that has left us stranded on two occasions and in need of a tow on another. Wiper motor or washer

"The rear wiper is HIGHLY frustrating on this model. A few years ago, the whole armed snapped off, because Dodge used a cheapo plastic armed model that falls apart (and it's well known, as the new replacement part is now metal, and all subsequent model years went back to metal... Dodge should have issued a recall and fixed these for free). After having to spend several hundred on replacing the arm, I figured I'd be done with rear wiper issues. But no, my rear wiper stopped working again about two months ago. Found out the wiper motor was bad. Dealer charged an outrageous $450 dollars to fix it. All told, I estimate I've spend at least $800 on a REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER in the five years I've owned this vehicle. I consider that a completely unacceptable amount of money for a small, relatively minor part that should never have problems. By comparison, in every other car I've owned, I've never had to spend a dime on the rear wiper except to replace the blade when it wears down."

Mary W., NY (2010 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.8-L V6)

"The first time it occurred was when starting the ignition. The van had power. Battery was fully charged. The console had power, radio too, but would not turn over. Wouldn't start. The ignition didn't make any noise that it was even attempting to start. Finally got it started by moving the gear shift from park to drive to park to drive etc. Then the ignition turned over and started. Drove for thirty yards and the whole system went dead. Todd D., WI (2010 Dodge Grand Caravan Hero 3.8-L V6)

"We intentionally bought a van that came equipped with a DVD player. Our DVD player hasn't worked for months. When we asked Dodge to diagnose the problem, they said that there was a "loose wire" that would take at least $1,500 to fix.
