"Sometimes, the entire entertainment system (radio, CD, MP3, iPhone Bluetooth) just does not work. The only way to fix this is to turn the car off, get out of the car, lock it and walk away. Ronald T., MD (2013 Ford Escape Titanium 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Anonymous, UT (2013 Ford Escape Titanium 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Car takes a LOOOOOONG time to acquire a satellite. Not uncommon to have to drive 20 min before the GPS witha red X through it disappears. Other times it has refused to accept a stored destination like HOME giving an error message, it's been to dealer"

"Consistently south of my actual location by about 50M"

Anonymous, ON (2013 Ford Escape SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Nav system sometimes takes as long as 20-30 minutes to acquire a satellite signal. It is useless until it does"

Sharon K., MI (2013 Ford Escape SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The GPS often deviates from its true position. Therefore, it often cannot give navigation instructors. For example, it may spend all its effort to get me from a side street onto the interstate when it already is on the interstate. My dealer has a technician that calibrates the system, which does no good."

Terry M., TX (2013 Ford Escape Titanium 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"inaccurate, if this GPS would have been on my boat I would have run aground frequently."

Anonymous, ON (2013 Ford Escape SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"GPS exhibited slow, none, faulty operation with most recent map (SD Card) installed, but not with older version. Became unusable, but only after it was driven for more than the usual dealer test drive. Great dealer experience in that they took my word for failures, but tried several fixes including part replacements that didn't work. Finally fixed by replacing GPS module. No problem since. Took several visits over two months, but was given loaner car each time."

Alfred P., WV (2013 Ford Escape Titanium 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

Stephen H., TX (2013 Ford Escape SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Sometimes it took awhile to connect or didn't connect. Difficult for the person I called to hear or understand me - voice sounded garbled and like the connection was breaking up"

Anonymous, MI (2013 Ford Escape SEL 1.6-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Radio sound does not always work. Radio occasionally turns off"

Anonymous, RI (2013 Ford Escape SEL 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Radio cuts out unexpectedly. So does the CD player. Even with shutting it off and starting it up again, sometimes does not solve the problem. Ford found no issues(figures). Happens rarely, but shouldn't happen at all as far as I am concerned"

Tori P., MN (2013 Ford Escape S 1.6-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"it will not work"

Peter M., OH (2013 Ford Escape SE 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Would just not turn on"

Philip F., SC (2013 Ford Escape SEL 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Radio will blank out at times, with just the time showing. Radio/CD/Aux won't work for a random period. Normally it will come back on after a short drive and the car is restarted. Ford replaced radio, but it has continued to happen randomly, not enough to be a serious issue though (for some reason it happens more on Sunday AM, so I miss the church music. I can live with that...lol)"

Anonymous, OH (2013 Ford Escape Titanium 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Fluid loss of 2 inches every1500 miles. Had it in to the dealership over approximately 12 months off and on. They replaced the water pumped, ending continued to leak. Finally checked the head/head gasket, and replaced the turbo. (turbo leak ?)"

Russell M., MI (2013 Ford Escape SEL 1.6-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"For about 3 years, the low antifreeze light will come on and off. If I check, the antifreeze is low. The dealership can't find any leaks, but I have to add antifreeze about every 4 months. In previous years, I've had troubles with the engine and hoses, and had to pay a lot for repairs when I had relatively low mileage."

Jeanne M., OK (2013 Ford Escape)

"This vehicle has had at least 11 recalls associated with it. One recall is for the coolant leak encountered. This issue has been fixed for the third time now. Unfortunately this last time the dealer and Ford blamed it on bad hoses and refused to fix an obvious faulty system under the extended warranty."

Overheating

"Have taken the car into Ford dealerships to fix overheating problem while under warranty and extended warranty on four different times. One time had to have it towed when the care went into a fail safe mode after overheating. Ford has never been able to fix problem. I have told them specifically the conditions under which it over heats. They claim their tech must replicate the over heating condition but refused to put it under the conditions under which it overheats (it was too far to take the vehicle for a longer up hill drive). Was going to have a Ford Company tech come out and look at it. That was two years ago and have never heard anything. Now considering having it declared a lemon under Calif. Lemon Law."

Anonymous, CA (2013 Ford Escape SEL 1.6-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Coolant leaks have caused the car to shut down and not travel faster than 20 mph at least twice in the time we've owned the car. It was a known issue that had a recall on it. This has happened on roads with posted speed limits of 60 mph and has caused a major safety concern. Ford has not been a good partner, with the second instance claiming to be a hose issue, most likely due to the tech not fixing the recall correctly. This vehicle has had at least 5 recalls on it. Will not buy one again."

"The car has overheated on a few occasions. The computer will slow and shut the car down as a safety precaution. The dealership said it was the water pump and replaced it under the warranty the first time. It happened again when out of warranty and they wanted me to pay for the repair. I look at myself and there was no indication that the water pump was bad, so I did not replace it. I believe the issue is the computer in the car restricting or stopping coolant flow."

James G., ON (2013 Ford Escape SEL 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"We have an automatic tailgate. Touch a button and it is suppose to closes and locks into place. The problem is that it does not always lock once the gate is closed. It has been into the service department a number of times to fix this problem and it still does not work properly after all these visits and as recently as 1 months a go. With all the parts and adjustments that have been made it still does not close and lock ever time it is used. It acts up frequently in cold weather. This is a bad design that the service department at the local Ford dealer don't seem to get fixed. This problem has been ongoing for the last 3 years. Getting very tired of this not being fixed permanently."

Anonymous, IA (2013 Ford Escape Titanium 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The electronic swing gate was not latching. I had to order a new one. We purchased a used car warranty that covered it. Also, there is a cover under the engine department; the screws come loose and the felt/plastic cover has to be screwed back in."

Thad B., MI (2013 Ford Escape SEL 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The "hanger" (attachment point on the body of the vehicle that connects to the power lift gate) sheared off for some unknown reason. Then the powerized mechanism that lifts the gate pushed itself up and through the gap between the roof and tailgate. Ultimately it was roughly $2000 worth of damage the the vehicle literally did to itself. Ford ultimately split the cost of the fix with me, but the hoops and headaches I had to go through were embarrassing"

Engine rebuild or replacement

"Overheating due to a coolant leak. Leak was into a cylinder. Engine was replaced with a salvaged engine. Cost (less $100 deductible) was covered by extended warranty. Car was out of service for more than a month. Warranty only covered rental car for 7 days at $40/day. Dealer provided a loaner for last two weeks. Now the Escape has 86,000 miles and the engine has only 37,000 miles."
