Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2021 vehicles are holding up in 17 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical system. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

"the system failed just days before the expiry of the warranty"

Anonymous, BC (2011 Ford F-250 King Ranch 6.7-L V8 diesel)

"warning light came on, diagnostics was bad EGR. Was under warranty, but Ford dealer took days longer to fix because the mechanic broke some bolts getting it off AND OTHERS putting it on. They ended up having to replace the exhaust manifold at their cost too"

"The EGR cooler plugged with carbon material"

Anonymous, AZ (2011 Ford F-250 XLT 6.7-L V8 diesel)

"Diesel exhaust fluid tank level sensor malfunctioned. Common problem for these trucks. Ford should have recalled these trucks because of so many failures! The repair was out of warranty because of time since I had purchased this truck. $840 out of my pocket!"

Anonymous, AL (2011 Ford F-250 XLT 6.7-L V8 diesel)

"EGR cooler required replacement. Repair required removal of the intake manifold to gain access to the unit. Originally dealer stated that our extend warranty purchased with the vehicle would not cover the $1500 repair. After some haggling with the service manager, Ford agreed to cover the repair under the extended service warranty."

Anonymous, VA (2011 Ford F-250 Lariat 6.7-L V8 diesel)

Paul J., TX (2011 Ford F-250 Lariat 6.7-L V8 diesel)

"Started sometime in 2019; about 120k miles on odometer. Bosch fuel pump shed aluminum pieces into fuel system. Required new fuel pump, new injectors. Problem is found in internet searches with this type fuel pump. Not covered by Ford warranty. Additional expense to us because mechanic drilled on injector and damaged the engine head"‿needed to be replaced."

Anonymous, (2011 Ford F-250 Lariat 6.7-L V8 diesel)

"Poor map system, and VERY expensive to upgrade to latest version - have gone to an add on unit that works much better, although not built-in. Overall the nav system was expensive in the first place and not well designed. Maps are poor with areas missing. "The door trim running along doors on both sides about 1 foot from the bottom discolored within a couple of years. No easy fix as they are glued on and the dealer can only suggest that they be taken off, painted and re applied - quite expensive (several hundred dollars) and I am not convinced that the fix is durable either. Don't remember he cost of new trim, but it was outrageous"

Driveshaft or axle, CV joint, differential, transfer case, 4WD/AWD components, driveline vibration, traction control, electronic stability control (ESC), electrical failure.

What Owners Say

Differential

"193000 miles differential gears broke and jammed the wheels so they would not turn. The rear end had a lot of slack in it before failure. I had taken it to the dealer for service, but they declined, saying that it was very worn and that it would be cheaper to replace the axle with a used low mileage unit. I use this truck for towing my 16,000lb 5th wheel, so I flogged the rear end until it failed. Which was spectaular in that it split the differential housing in two. I could have replaced it at any time before that, but I wanted proof that it was really going to break."

Anonymous, TX (2011 Ford F-250 Lariat 6.7-L V8 diesel)
Electrical failure

"Less than one year after I paid over $2000 to have the evaporator replaced, the HVAC blower would not turn on. I returned to the dealer who had performed the evaporator work and they informed me a resistor needed to be replaced. However, the resistor was located such that the dashboard needed to be removed. Of course the labor charges for this are huge. I refused the repair and will use the truck without a blower."
