Anonymous, NM (2012 Honda CR-V EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)
Evaporator

"there is a musty smell"

Anonymous, WA (2012 Honda CR-V 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Every spring since purchasing the CRV we have taken the car back to the Honda dealer in Hempstead, NY to fix our air conditioner because it was blowing hot air. For five years we took the car back sometimes two and three times per season. They gave us all kinds of reasons why the system kept losing refrigerant, and many times they claimed they had no idea what was wrong with the air conditioner. Last year we even took the car to a different Honda dealer in Huntington, NY. The Huntington dealer charged us close to $200. to refill the refrigerant, yet claimed they saw no leak. We spoke to our regular mechanic who immediately knew it was probably the evaporator core. He told us that the part was not expensive, but the labor to replace the part would be costly. When our heater core stopped working in December 2017, our mechanic told us the evaporator core was right next to the heater core so he would check for leaks. Sure enough he found plenty of leaks in the evaporator core, replaced it and gave us the original. I am so dissappointed in the deception that Honda exhibited to us in the last six years. They sold us a car with a bumper to bumper warranty, yet refused to honor it when needed."

Mark J., NY (2012 Honda CR-V EX-L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

Anonymous, MD (2012 Honda CR-V 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"We have manual (dial) controls for the heat and air fan. At maximum heat settings the interior temperature never heats up to a comfortable temperature during cold weather, 32 degrees and below. This has been the case since the first winter we owned t"

Don H., CT (2012 Honda CR-V EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Hot air on the passenger side, while cool air coming out of the driver's side vents. Many degrees difference"

Anonymous, MN (2012 Honda CR-V EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"suddenly, it was taking a very long time for the heater to begin blowing heat. It began blowing almost as soon as I started it. However, the air was ice cold"

George H., NJ (2012 Honda CR-V EX-L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"driver side air ducts forces out cold air rather than the warm air called for and which is emitted from the ducts on the passenger side and in the center registers"

Refrigerant leaks

"Every summer the car's air conditioning does not work. We return to the dealer and ask them to fix the problem. Every time they tell us they have found the leak, however, we have our doubts. We think they just add more refrigerant"

Mark B., OH (2012 Honda CR-V EX-L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"Every year at the start of the warm weather the air conditioner in the car does not blow cool/cold air. We have brought the car back to the dealer multiple times each year. They claim they find a leak, fix it, and add refrigerant into the system. Sometimes years it lasts the summer season and other years it does not. This is the fifth season we have had problems with the air conditioner. Our car is no longer under warranty and we feel we are stuck with a car that we will be forced to fill with"

Since this is my 4th Honda, and my last Honda never needed new brakes (I sold it at 160,000 miles), I was not pleased to need them so soon on this car. My mechanic came out and showed me the brake pads (after 40,000 miles) and said there was a flaw in the design of the brakes as the pad was too small, hence it needed replacing after so few miles. 50,000 miles later, I needed new pads, new rotor, calipers."

"I purchased this car in early 2014 as a CPO vehicle. There have been several problems with this car, however I noticed water stains in the headliner over the rear seat area. I observed this leakage 2 years after purchasing the car. I purchased Honda’s premium warranty but it doesn’t cover damage from water leaks. My service tech-Bobby, is very good. He was able to work with Honda’s regional service advisor who agreed to replace the headliner panel if I would pay a portion of the technicians cost of repairs, about $200 which I felt was reasonable. The cause of the water leak was believed to be from the roof mounted radio antenna near the rear of the car. It was suggested that I avoid automatic car washes, which I generally do! And if I should occasionally go through an automatic car wash, I should remove the rubber antenna before entering! (a minor inconvenience but it beats having to replace the headliner again!) Finally, I just recently read in my Honda owners manual that you should remove the rubber radio antenna before entering the car wash. It’s very easy to unscrew and reinstall. But as I said somewhat inconvenient."

"A solenoid went out and had to be replaced. It was covered by warranty"

Scott H., CA (2012 Honda CR-V EX-L 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"The rear AWD transaxel uses a hydrolic lubricant different to that used by the transmission. The manuals do not mention anything regarding the replacement of this fluid every 12k miles. The consequence of not replacing it causes the part to fail. I have learned that a rule to follow is that if a part uses a lubricant, replace it every 12 - 15k miles! For engine oil, if you use a full synthetic oil, it pays to have a sample of the used oil analyzed by a certified laboratory like Blackstone Laboratories in Indiana, every other oil change. They will guide you on how many more miles you can get out of your oil before it needs to be replaced. The price pays for itself, plus it gives you a heads up of anything that can be going wrong, way before you can notice it. This allows you to make a wise decision if it's time to replace your car or fix it before a total failure."

Fred S., FL (2012 Honda CR-V EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

Ooms W., IL (2012 Honda CR-V EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"This problem was caused by a failed VTC (Variable Timing Control) Actuator. The noise started out as a slight rattle when starting a cold engine. It gradually grew worse until it was a very loud, rapid knocking. This is apparently a common problem with Honda engines, and is the subject of Honda Service Bulletin 09-010. A redesigned part was released in 2016. A Honda dealer installed the new part at no charge under the power train warranty. After replacement, we went a year with no noise. But now the new, redesigned VTC Actuator has also begun to occasionally rattle at cold startup, just like the old one did."

"I am disappointed in the quality of the paint in my 2012 Honda CR-V. The color is a beautiful burgundy metallic, but it seems that any minor scratch in the paints clear coat leaves a white mark where the scratch is located! I hope a professional car detailer can wheel out most of the imperfections! Secondly, the black plastic trim that covers the lower cladding of the CR-V looks horrendous after a few years! It tends to turn to various shades of gray, which gives it a blotchy appearance, especially around the wheel wells. I have tried 4 or 5 different products but most difficult to apply and don’t often last. One product states to mask off your paint to avoid damaging it! I currently own 2 older Honda’s and have never had the appearance problems I’m having with the CR-V!"
