Reliability History Reliability History The reliability charts are based on responses on hundreds of thousands of vehicles from our latest Annual Auto Survey. Consumer Reports subscribers reported on any serious problems they had with their vehicles during the past 12 months that they considered serious because of cost, failure, safety, or downtime, in any of the trouble spots included in the table below. The results are presented relative to the average model that year. Extra weight is given to the more serious areas such as major engine or transmission problems. Based on this data and further analysis, we predict reliability for the latest year. N/A indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

The Honda Fit has always been an appealing urban runabout, with its tidy size, voluminous interior, amazing versatility and good fuel economy. Fortunately, the redesigned third-generation Fit carried on these qualities, while adding a lot more creature comforts, better crash-test performance, and a new engine and transmission to improve fuel economy.

Conversely, if you're looking for a long-distance commuter, the Fit's loud cabin noise, rough ride, and slow acceleration may make this little Honda too taxing for long trips. The Fit also feels undeniably tinny.

Anonymous, MO (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Paint came off looked like hundreds of scratchs all over the body of the car. It had to be entirely repainted. I'm glad I purchased a protection package for this kind of thing.....I was told by the Honda body shop that it would have cost me about 5K without the coverage. Body shop said the problem was caused by bird droppings, but we've had three other cars that were parked in the same spot for years, and nothing like this happened to them. Personally, I think the manufacturer neglected to"

Anonymous, RI (2015 Honda Fit 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

Bruno R., QC (2015 Honda Fit 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Rust spots on the roof. Rust at the connection between the driver's-side rear door and the door hinge. Problems occurred about a year apart. Dealer deemed both covered under the warranty and repaired the areas. Although we live in a coastal city, Honda did not attempt to use this as an excuse for the rust. Good for them."

Anonymous, FL (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Paint chipping issues on the roof are causing rust."

Joseph R., TN (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"the car started rusting 2-3 years after buying it bran new from the dealer.. While my Volkswagen gold of 8 years at the time had not a single rust spot on it.. Makes no sense.. It's a white car and the rust makes it look so old and cheap. Very disappointed."

"The vehicle would not recognize my iPhone."

Steven S., FL (2015 Honda Fit LX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Phone is the the most annoying just because the stereo is a one unit and I can not replace it as easily because aftermarket stereo will not plug and play, I need to buy a lot of stuff just to make it work. When I play song every 30 seconds or so it pauses. Also when I make a phone call the other people can not hear me at all(so what's th point in handsfree calls). When pair to the phone I can not say hello google to make a call even though the phone is in bluthoot settings. It is just the most awful system I have encounter. Now I need to pay around 500 dollar just to make it work. Not so smart fit for the Honda Fit."

Radio

"The radio does not work at all"

Kevin I., MA (2015 Honda Fit EX-L 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

Gary L., CA (2015 Honda Fit LX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Illogical controls. Slow to initiate (must wait for Navi to start up). Preset links are stupefyingly awkward to set"

"Antenna defect, resulted in loss of AM radio. Repaired under warranty."

William P., ON (2015 Honda Fit LX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Voice control commands

"The Bluetooth does not understand the number 'four', and almost always makes it a zero, which is horribly frustrating"

Anonymous, ON (2015 Honda Fit 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Poor quality and slow. I have to turn my Bluetooth off to do most tasks and turn it on again to get directions over the car speakers etc"

Anonymous, WI (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

Electric System

Alternator, starter, hybrid battery and related systems, regular battery, battery cables, engine harness, coil, ignition switch, electronic ignition, distributor or rotor failure, spark plugs and wires failure.

What Owners Say

Alarm or security system (excluding aftermarket systems)

"lock in the rear left door not working. No replacements parts at the dealer"

Anonymous, FL (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Body control module

"The body control module stopped the gas pedal from functioning. The car would only idle no matter where the pedal was positioned. Honda dealer said to just use the Limp Along Mode?? Which means to just idle the car to the dealership. But idling could not get the car over even the slightest hill. What a crazy thing to ask us to just idle to the dealership. Of course the car had to be towed. What a less that ideal situation!"

Steven H., UT (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Exterior lights (other than headlights)

"Turn signal doesn't work properly. If you turn it on to change lanes, it's sometimes very hard to turn it off again. It sounds trivial, but it can be a little dangerous in traffic, as you keep fiddling with it to try to turn it off."

Anonymous, NC (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Gauges

"electronic fuel gauge (mileage, temp, etc) "blue screened" out. Cost to replace: @700. Not like I did anything to break it - it just went nuts & then blank at @80,000 miles. These things ought to be economical plug & play format"

Anonymous, WV (2015 Honda Fit EX-L 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"5 gauges lit at one time, was told cpm had to be updated two different times"

Linda M., TX (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"odometer /gas gauge begin flickering intermittently then wnet to blue screen. Both were occasional for awhile but became unmanageable over time. Cost to repair was 1200"

Keith L., KY (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The guage that tells fuel economy, fuel levels, temperature and odometer readings goes funky. IT will go blank, all the lights will come on, it will freeze, or go funky. Sometimes pressing the trip button will fix it. It is worse when it is cold."

Brian M., CA (2015 Honda Fit LX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Headlights

"Replaced with ultra-bright bulbs because too dim as manufactured"

Anonymous, PA (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"In "auto" mode, the indicator on the dashboard to show on or off is not working consistently, and the lights are not turning on all the time by themselves like they should. They work file when I switch to manual operation"

Beyhan A., NH (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"At about 2.5 years of use, replaced headlights several times (both bulbs 3 to 4 times) within the span of 6 months. Dealer had no suggestions. Replaced the battery (at our expense) and the problem ceased."

Anonymous, FL (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Interior lights

"Tire pressure light came on when tire had enough air in it"

Anonymous, MO (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Keyless entry

"It was lost and it was very very expensive to replace and difficult to make it work"

Anonymous, CA (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"When you purchase a car with keyless ignition/entry, you would think that being 'Keyless' that you could go to the driver's door, touch the handle and all doors would open. Not so with this car. You can go to the door on the back or the passenger side door and touch their handle(s) and they open all doors. But no way with the driver's door. You have to reach in your pocket each time (at the driver's door) and use the key fob to open all doors. Or you have to walk to the back of the vehicle, or the passenger door and touch their handles to open all doors. What a completely stupid thing with Keyless key fobs. Here's the problem: The dealer said that feature could not be changed, even if you wanted it changed. Not a lot of trust in the dealer here! Have heard that other dealers made that simple change at their dealerships!"

Steven H., UT (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Randomly doesn't work. Ive changed the battery about every month. The periods of not working occur in various places and may happen right after a battery change or at the end of the month. My second opener behaves the same way."

Anonymous, WA (2015 Honda Fit 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Tire pressure monitor

"The tire pressure monitor stayed on almost all winter despite repeated checks that the pressure in the tires was accurate"

Anonymous, WI (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The tire pressure monitor comes on frequently, usually after 30-60 minutes of interstate, 70 mph driving. Tires are equally and adequately inflated when checked in these circumstances. The dealership recommended inflating tires slightly above recommended pressures to stop the warning light coming on. This worked for awhile but now problem has recurred despite inflating tires about 0.5 psi above recommendation. Dealership doesn't seem interested in the issue but I worry and am conflicted about the need to stop and check the tire pressures when the warning light comes on as I am doing interstate driving since I'm fairly certain there is no problem. One time the tire pressure light came on as I drove out of my driveway and I did find one tire with very low psi compared to the others. A nail was found in the tire. So the system works but is overly sensitive? I believe the tire pressure monitor in my 2015 Honda Fit was first installed in 2015 Honda models."

Anonymous, IL (2015 Honda Fit EX-L 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Unable to reset TPMS every time a reset was required. Service department could reset each time."

Anonymous, WA (2015 Honda Fit LX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Nearly everytime I take the car in for service, at the dealer or at the tire place, etc. the sensor lights up saying there is low pressure. It is very annoying as when I go back to the dealer or other service place they just reset the light and it's ok. But they say they can't do that unless I drive off for 15 or 20 mins first."

Anonymous, WA (2015 Honda Fit 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"According to the monitor, a tire(s) is always low."

Anonymous, MT (2015 Honda Fit 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The TPMS light will NOT go off, no matter how many times I check the tire pressure (and they've never been low) or try to reset it. I've taken it to the dealership twice and within 48 hours the light is back on"

Anonymous, VA (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Warning lights

"Instrument panel displays "check charge system". All warning lights -- tire pressure monitor, power steering, battery, traction control -- remain illuminated. Royal Honda supposedly resolved but the issue has returned. Terrible service there, by the way"

Anonymous, LA (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The warning light for TPMS will not go off"

Anonymous, VA (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

Body Integrity

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, loose or cracked seals and/or weather-stripping, air and water leaks.

What Owners Say

Air or water leaks

"Twice in 10 months, MUCH rain water leaked through clogged drain holes in moon roof onto driver's side floor"

P D., PA (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"One tire was leaking air and constantly triggering an alert on the dashboard every few days. I brought it into a dealership three separate times before I finally ended up with a flat tire and they realized and fixed the problem after replacing the tire. The first three times, they just filled it with air and claimed it was a sensitive alert/air pressure sensor and not to worry about it"

Justin M., WA (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Rain water leaking through moon roof"

P D., PA (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Rain came in through the windows and doors, soaking the carpets. The first time I brought it in, the dealer claimed they couldn't find anything. The second time, they claimed the same but when I showed them photos of rain runnels coming from under the door, they tried again and did find a problem, which they fixed."

Anonymous, NY (2015 Honda Fit 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"drainage from the moon roof became blocked. When it rained, water flooded into the driver's foot area."

Anonymous, NC (2015 Honda Fit 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Water leak in moon roof"

P D., PA (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Seals and/or weather-stripping

"Su Roof leaks. Dealer reported that drain line was plugged, but also indicated that you had to remove the opening mechanism to clear the line. Extremely poor design"

Jonathan C., NC (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The engine splash guard is poorly designed and should be re-designed - search on the internet for complaints posted. Has caused and continues to cause an issue. I contacted Honda, but no help. I took it to my local Honda dealer, they re-secured it, but became loose in 4 weeks."

Anonymous, IL (2015 Honda Fit LX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The sun roof came completely off while driving at 70 mph. The sun roof was closed at the time. The mfr repaired it at no cost. I suspect that the mechanism was improperly installed during manufacture. No problems since."

Anonymous, NC (2015 Honda Fit 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Squeaks or rattles

"squeaks when pushing down on the clutch"

Anonymous, CT (2015 Honda Fit LX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The passenger seat makes an annoying squeaking sound when it is unoccupied. Basically a squeak or two over every minor bump. So far I've just turned up the stereo a bit but I can go days without driving any vehicle so I sort of forget about it. Certainly it hasn't bothered me enough to look at it or have it looked at, but it is an annoyance."

Clark A., TX (2015 Honda Fit EX-L 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"There is a squeak that seems to come from the rear, driver side headliner. The dealer injected foam into that area but the squeak came back and is very annoying. It needs to go in again. Hopefully they can stop this noise"

Dan M., FL (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Front dash near air vents squeak on bumbs. Drivers seat very uncomfortable"

Anonymous, ON (2015 Honda Fit LX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"previous accident repair that missed broken bracket under dashboard"

D S., PA (2015 Honda Fit EX-L 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The car is a nice almost perfect surface will not sound but as soon as it hit a ant it will shake the interior parts of the car. That drive me nuts because is the entire car. I do not beat up the car but since the 6. month is squeaks and drive you crazy. Not a car if you can not near perfect roads."

Enrique D., (2015 Honda Fit LX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Wind noise

"It's not only wind noise; I'd call it road noise. And this is a noisy car, too noisy in my opinion. Around the city (Los Angeles) we are on the freeway most days. Our roads are in terrible condition here and so this only promotes what would ordinarily be a noisy car into a very noisy car"

Daniel E., CA (2015 Honda Fit EX-L 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"My expectations for overall NVH weren't particularly high with the Fit. I purchased it as a basic city runabout car. However, on the occasions I have taken it out on the highway the constant wind noise above 50 mph is very tiring. For example, after a three to four hour drive between cities the feeling about arrival could be best described as relief. Relief to be out of the car and away from the constant assault from wind noise."

Clark A., TX (2015 Honda Fit EX-L 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"When traveling over 45 mph with any open window a stifling whistle runs thru the auto."

Patricia M., WI (2015 Honda Fit 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Dealer calls it "draft noise," not an air leak. It occurs at highway speed when I have a crosswind or when passing a large vehicle"

Anonymous, GA (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"It is the overall noise in driving the fit. It is the only reason I would upgrade to a different car. I love my fit...but I also love music and it is hard to hear music or the bluetooth phone over the noise in the car. p.s. I also wish it had a center arm rest."

Suspension

Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

What Owners Say

Alignment

"Was having uneven/excessive tire wear. When I brought it in for alignment, I found out the rear wheels were out of alignment, and they are not adjustable (unfixable). I am now rotating my tires often to try to manage the problem"

Gary K., NY (2015 Honda Fit LX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Could not align rear wheels causing extreme uneven tire wear, despite wheels being "within allowable tolerances" per Honda"

"Request for re-alignment at service appointments promply provided."

Anonymous, WA (2015 Honda Fit LX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Our tire wear was uneven and caused us to have to buy new tires at great expense. This was because of an inability to keep the alignment stable. Even our dealership had difficulty solving this problem. Apparently, it is a common manufacturer's defect with this model."

Anonymous, NY (2015 Honda Fit 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Electronic or air suspension

"There was a known recall issue with the front bumper supports. It was an easy fix and was done during the first oil change I had done"

Doug M., NY (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)
Shocks or struts

"Strut housing separated from main strut component. Noise was main issue. Dealer replaced free of charge, outside of warrantee"

Francis A., MD (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"To repair the struts, it was going to cost $1100! Fortunately, the dealer was able to negotiate with Honda to cover the lion's share of the cost"

"Broken"

Anonymous, CA (2015 Honda Fit EX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"One of the shocks broke. It was covered under warranty. The replacement still makes a terrible squeak. The whole car rattles like a 10 year old car, not a 3 year old car."

"Front strut developed major rattle and had to be replaced."

Anonymous, IL (2015 Honda Fit 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Struts wore out at 68,000 miles, causing fairly new tires to have to be replaced. When we took it to Honda, their first reaction was that the tires were faulty, as failure of the struts at that mileage would be premature. On examination of the vehicle, however, they admitted that the struts were bad. We replaced all four struts ($3,200) and four tires ($600). The tires had 32,000 miles (which were warranteed at 85,000 miles), so the bad struts did a real number on the tires. Very disappointed!"

Anonymous, GA (2015 Honda Fit LX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Rear plastic trim has snapped off while opening and closing hatch. Was replaced under warrnaty. New part is also having the same issue"

Ryan B., CA (2015 Honda Fit LX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The hatchback latch handle is located under a plastic cover. You have to reach well under this cover to get your hand under the latch handle to open the hatch. There is a fairly large gap, however, between the top of the handle and the plastic cover. If you get your hand into that gap, thinking you are pulling on the latch handle, you will pull on the plastic cover and break it. This happened the first week we owned the car. Honda replaced it under warranty. Since then, we have learned to be careful, but a guest of ours got caught and broke the cover again. Honda has refused to repair this again free of charge. We consider this to be an easily solvable design flaw, for which Honda has been unwilling to accept responsibility."

Anonymous, GA (2015 Honda Fit LX 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Wiper grommet broke allowing rainwater into vehicle, flooding trunk and interior foot wells. Dealer twice failed to locate and properly correct problem resulting in waste of time and money."

Anonymous, GA (2015 Honda Fit EX-L 1.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The hatch handle does not reset properly, so sometimes the hatch will not open. To fix the problem, the handle must be pushed back into the locked position, and then the car needs to be locked and unlocked again. A consequence of this is that, when we tried to open the hatch the first time the handle got jammed, we pulled hard and our fingers slipped, resulting in us cracking the cheap plastic molding just above the handle and causing the honda logo to partially detach."
