Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2021 vehicles are holding up in 17 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical system. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.

    What Owners Say

    A/C compressor

"Not entirely sure that it is the AC Compressor. Suspect it has something to do with the coolant (freon?). System does not cool as it used to. So I think I need to have the fluids checked, replaced (flushed and replaced)."

Anonymous, CA (2005 Honda Pilot Unsure 3.5-L V6)

    "Seized"

Anonymous, NJ (2005 Honda Pilot EX 3.5-L V6)

    "Just needs freon"

    Anonymous, VA (2005 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)

"Air mix motor started chattering. When the temperature in the cabin was reached the air mix motor would constantly move the arm back and forth making an annoying noise"

"the heat and or the air conditioning would get stuck on. blowing broiling hot air full blast no matter what setting it would be on. then suddenly on day it would work fine for a couple of months. several repair shops were unable to fix it because it had to be malfunctioning at time of appointment and it would miraculously work. (And then stop working a couple days later. Finally AAA diagnosed the problem. Something wrong with the sensor. Didn't work correctly probably 2 years. Finally fixed. Whew."

    Anonymous, NC (2005 Honda Pilot 3.5-L V6)

    Blower (fan) motor

"One of the fan motors that controls the hot/cold air flow makes a rattling noise behlow the passenger side dashboard that sounds like mice chewing on the system. It's been doing that for the last 80 thousand miles. Someday I might get around to changing the little motor, it is sort of anoying"

    Joan G., MD (2005 Honda Pilot EX 3.5-L V6)

"Blower was flaky, i.e., it made noises from a wheeze to a crescendoed racket, when we bought the car in 2010; we got an estimate for a replacement but it was more than we wanted to pay. The blower finally died this month and will be replaced"

    Melissa V., OH (2005 Honda Pilot LX 3.5-L V6)

"My Honda blower motor and air mix motor both needed replacement. Honda has high failure rate on these parts, and take advantage of this by charging a high price for replacement parts"

"Airbags have been plagued by recalls. Throughout, my indicator light remained on and Honda refused to fix it unless I paid them. Sometime after the last recall the light went out. The light passes the startup test, so I know it didn't burn out. All this scandal with their airbags, and Hondas position is always don't worry, it's no big deal; but we have new cars you can buy-- Really? Why would I buy a new Honda when the one I have is defective? The whole airbag debacle is scandalize, Honda should of just come out and said all airbag malfunctions are covered at no charge. They didn't, and for three years I drove a vehicle with an airbag indicator light on not knowing if the bags would work, or just blow up in my face and kill/maim me. The reassurance memo from their CEO was a bunch of BS as well. No dealership was willing to loan me a vehicle while my airbags were being repaired. They were however very willing to sell me one. Honda must think their customers are morons or so enamored with their automobiles, that we just automatically buy them regardless of a problem. No thanks! I'll shop around next time. Honda definitely has a trust issue with their customers, but acts dumb, like it does not exist. Honda, I'm not buying a $40,000 vehicle with defective airbags!!!!"
