What Owners Say
"Infotainment difficult to use, not user friendly"
Anonymous, IL (2016 Honda Pilot EX 3.5-L V6)"For about the last two years when the screen is powering up I'll get a message that says some of the software was unable to start. Underneath the message is a box that says "OK". When I touch on that box the screen loads and usually is normal. Rarely however, the radio data (station frequencies) does not load properly... this has occurred maybe three times during over four years of operation. This problem is definitely not a hazard, it's just a minor inconvenience."
Anonymous, (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)"The display stops responding. In this state, it cannot be turned off, the volume can't be changed, and the station/source cannot be changed."
Matt B., WA (2016 Honda Pilot EX 3.5-L V6)"The screen freeze happens intermittently since we've owned the car. It is hard to show to the dealer but we eventually made a video of the problem. From that, the dealer made a repair that was supposed to fix it, but within weeks the problem is occurring again. Since it is intermittent, I don't think it was actually successfully fixed. We have not taken the car back to the dealer yet for a second try. When the screen freezes, the on screen buttons are still operational. You can touch them to change radio channels, and the channel does change what we hear on the radio. But the display of which channel is selected does not change. That area of the screen remains frozen."
Anonymous, CA (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"Screen throws up error message and had to go back to dealer for a re download of software two different times after first dealer couldn't figure it out"
Anonymous, NH (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)"screen would give a code . wouldn't work after that point"
Kathy C., IA (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)"Android Bluetooth player freezes"
Anonymous, AB (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)"The screen freezes up with a message about every other day. You can click on it and it comes back"
Richard O., TX (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"I have complained about this for a year but the blue tooth never pairs properly. And the screen on the radio often blacks-out portions of the preset stations. I have brought it in twice to get it fixed to no avail. It is an incncwnience to have to keep taking it in. They claim it needed a software update. Our Subaru has. Ever had these problems. Very disappointing. This is my first Honda. And I'm not sure I would consider another"
Anonymous, PA (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"Occasionally the navigation screen goes blank. It refreshes once the car is restarted...so far."
Anonymous, (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"Intermittently, the display screen will arbitrarily go blank for a few minutes to several days, then return to normal operation. The audio and navigation systems seem to still be working while the screen is blank, but controlling those systems becomes difficult or impossible until the displays return to normal operation."
Anonymous, (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)"Screen freezes. You can tap the screen and it reverts to normal. Have not tried to get it fixed."
Richard O., TX (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"the screen will randomly stop working but usually a restart of the car fixes it. if it breaks out of warranty I'm buying an aftermarket system. the Honda controls for this system are awful"
Anonymous, FL (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"Screen goes blank and will not come back on unless I stop the engine and restart. Does not do it often, and dealer service could not duplicate it."
Anonymous, GA (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"Presets disappear on the radio. No explanation or successful diagnosis from Honda."
Mark L., OR (2016 Honda Pilot LX 3.5-L V6)"Display screen goes blank until car is re-started"
Anonymous, NJ (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"The entertainment large screen goes blank at random times. Dealer and Honda have service bulletin on issue. They will be doing a firmware update"
Anonymous, IA (2016 Honda Pilot EX 3.5-L V6)"Screen would go black for no apparent reason. Would restart car and would do it again. Was in Florida on vacation had to take to local dealer. Honda was aware and they had a fix"
Anthony Q., PA (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"Display screen had to b replaced"
L C., FL (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)"The screen will randomly go blank and will sometimes reset if I turn off the car and back on a couple of times. It happens when I'm using the radio and also affects the backup camera"
Anonymous, MI (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"I had periodic issues with my smart phone making proper connections with my car. Occasionally, trying to get my phone to send or receive phone calls or texts would cause an error."
Anonymous, TX (2016 Honda Pilot Elite 3.5-L V6)"My system does not connect well with my phone. The GPS is slow to find my vehicle which causes incorrect directions and has at times taken me to the wrong place (one example: the back employee only entrance to the San Diego zoo rather than the front). My phone GPS is so much better but the connectivity between my phone and car system seldom works and the hands free functions require so many extra steps, including when I am using the voice activation, that it is unsafe to use while driving. The new systems are much better."
Anonymous, CA (2016 Honda Pilot Elite 3.5-L V6)"Sirius would not work when cold"
Anonymous, PA (2016 Honda Pilot LX 3.5-L V6)"The buttons on the steering wheel wore out so when I tried to interface with system, it stopped working. The 2016 Pilot's blue tooth interface not Apple friendly either, and that was a selling point--salesperson didn't really know what he was talking about. All in all, though, they fixed the button and didn't charge us for the labor. With that being said, it still will occasionally glitch."
Anonymous, (2016 Honda Pilot LX 3.5-L V6)"The phone often takes quite a long time to pair. It occasionally wont pair. The entire handsfree system takes several seconds to engage when answering incoming calls and the sound is poor - other callers complain about the microphone/sound quality."
Anonymous, AB (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)"My samsung will not pair properly to the Pilot so that I can use my GPS. I also can not properly pair the Bluetooth."
Tami D., TX (2016 Honda Pilot EX 3.5-L V6)"The radio has a gremlin in it. It sometimes changes stations or channels while driving. The dealer couldn't find a problem. When the vehicle is turned off, upon restarting you must reset in back to audio. That's a pain!"
Anonymous, MN (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)"Honda's connectivity for iOS systems crashes with high frequency and cannot be updated, which is unacceptable to me and would have led me not to buy the vehicle had I known of it."
Anonymous, WI (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)"Bluetooth is spotty. Seems to have resolved with a. new phone. Static in the entire system resolved only with restarting the car."
Anonymous, TN (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)"the hondalink sy. stem is bad and I don't think Honda cares that it is."
Anonymous, PA (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"Very difficult and awkward to use/navigate. Touch screen is not sensitive. Bring back the knobs!!"
George T., SC (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"If you turn off the car while using the mp3 player it clears the info about where you were and resets to the first track in the first folder"
Anonymous, WA (2016 Honda Pilot EX 3.5-L V6)"The Honda Link system is unreliable and frustrating. Drops pairings, constantly says it is updating data - but then does nothing. Won't stay synced to Pandora"
Anonymous, PA (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"If I dial a number using my devices favorites the call does not go through the cars bluetooth, I have to use the handset to complete the call. I frequently use my favorites list to dial a call but want to complete the call handsfree"
Jeffery H., MN (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)"Unit would note allow phone calls from my cell phone intermittently, and their were frequent problems with the Bluetooth connection. Head unit was replaced by honda under my HondaCare extended warranty."
Anonymous, WV (2016 Honda Pilot Elite 3.5-L V6)"Dealer was unable to update the software so new unit was installed but phone integration is still not working properly."
Anonymous, MO (2016 Honda Pilot Elite 3.5-L V6)"System Start stop button error. Dealer just re-set error, and charges Fee to do so. Dealer indicated if it can back, more testing would be done, and probably have to replace main circuit board. I went on-line, and founf that it could be repaired by replacing Start/Stop button. I ordered it on-line, and replaced the button myself in 40 minutes."
Anonymous, NY (2016 Honda Pilot Elite 3.5-L V6)"This is the 3rd and most expensive Honda I have owned. I loved the other 2. The navigation on the 2016 is the most complicated and difficult tom use. very hard to determine distance to stops along the way on long trip. System gets lost in big cities; could not navigate around Boston or New Orleans with any success"
Anonymous, AL (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)"Upon purchase the navigation system, radio, etc did NOT work. Was immediately taken back to the dealer and fixed in about a week. (Found out after driving off the lot that the system did not operate.)"
Anonymous, (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"it takes a very long time for the gos tob determine the location of the car - much longer than other gps units or phones."
Anonymous, (2016 Honda Pilot Elite 3.5-L V6)"GPS screen would black out. A Honda recall on software fixed the problem"
Anthony Q., PA (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"the gps semsors in car seem to be less than accurate...some places gps turn right when roadsigns indicate turn left...garmin software kludgy...previous tom tom software was better...too many functions jammed into one screen...voice commands not always recognized due to cabin noise...can't trust unit to get me to a new area safely been using a separate gps unit to use as a backup and check to in car unit...this pilot for its price was not checked out before rollout and its quite pricey considering the gremlins that have plagued the suv doing its short life"
Anonymous, WI (2016 Honda Pilot Elite 3.5-L V6)"I'm on my fourth unit. Original didn't function properly.Second was scratched badly on inside of glass.Third got an error message that kept popping up.Current unit is fine so far"
Anonymous, NH (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"cannot see screen due to sun glare; most streets on map do not have a name; uneven and awkward zoom in and zoom out; all available icons for position of my car too big for map; directions not reliable; street lines too wide allowing fewer street lines; screen layout not practical - less room for map and too much space for other information items such as street presently driving on; I am an experienced vav user, hand held and in dash; this is the worse I have ever imagined; BIG TIME BUYER"S REM"
Mark H., TX (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"The display says I need a map update but the dealer cannot do it and the instructions on the internet don't work. I am suppose to format a thumbdrive in the vehicle but the thumbdrive format is not recognized by the update software. Nobody knows what to do"
Joe C., OR (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)"Gets lost. Turns the wrong way into one way streets. Is confused at intersections. Sometimes does not recalculate, has to be reprogramed"
Anonymous, MN (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)"Ordered new Pilot with Garmin GPS System installed in the infotainment system from factory had to wait almost 2 months. After about 6 months I started to receive messages on my system telling me that my GPS system was out of date and I needed to update. Local dealer had no idea how to perform this task, called Honda they had no idea and told me to Garmin. Garmin wasn't sure. Found info online at Honda/Garmin.com online"
Anthony Q., PA (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"Happens intermittently and has to be paired again"
Anonymous, IL (2016 Honda Pilot EX 3.5-L V6)"The phone pairing only works about 70% of the time. Honda has refused to fix the problem on all the 2016 Honda Pilots."
Anonymous, VA (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"Phone paring has stopped"
Anonymous, NC (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"Phone pairing is a combination of a software glitch and poor human factors design by Honda. System does not always display detected BT devices that have been connected to the vehicle in the past. Switching between one phone and another is difficult and most of the time doesn't provide the desired result. We have noticed that about 25% of the time trying to force the system results in a frozen/unresponsive screen."
Anonymous, GA (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"Car came with phone able to be paired, worked fine. Sirius radio stopped working. they said antenna was broken, had to be replace but was not covered by warrantee. Paid for new antenna $380 but then phone could not work when radio on. After the fact they told me they could not fix that."
Anonymous, AL (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)"Iphone won't connect with bluetooth. Technician spent about 11.5 hours working on it and it worked when I left the dealership. It stopped working the next day. My phone has no problem connecting to other devices."
Anonymous, PA (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)"The interaction of phone and voice controls do not work despite replacement of the radio unit. Sometime the phone does not work right when operating in car, hangs and will not recognize a hang up."
Anonymous, MO (2016 Honda Pilot Elite 3.5-L V6)"It's not as easy to pair phones when two iPhones are in the car. Meaning--the first phone in the car is the one that is paired which may not be the driver."
Anonymous, (2016 Honda Pilot LX 3.5-L V6)"phone calls transferred perfectly for first 4 months, then would not transfer and would not display name of person calling. After several trips to dealer over 5 mo. period, they were able to get it so I could transfer calls manually by touching Transfer on screen. Technician said this is problem only with I-phones, frequent software updates of I-phone said to be a problem. Android phones work perfectly well and I observed this when they used their own phones to test system. System does not work as it did when new. I've given up on Honda fixing the problem and learned to live with it as is."
Robert C., TX (2016 Honda Pilot EX 3.5-L V6)"About half the time, the bluetooth system refuses to recognize an incoming call. Frequently what happens is that about a minute or two after the call, it asks me if I want to transfer the call over to bluetooth, but FREQUENTLY, that does not work and the call is lost or held in some weird purgatory for about half a minute before suddenly showing up again. The display/infotainment screen is terrible (as your early reviews of this vehicle said), and I think that contributes to some of the bluetooth issues. One extremely frustrating deficit: Even with a correctly paired phone, there is no way to access my phone's contacts on the car's display screen. I can access speed dial numbers that I have programmed into the car. I can access recent calls made. But without a contact list function (which my former Honda Odyssey had), if i attempt to make a call from my car, I have to do it through my cell phone's screen -- and it does not go through the bluetooth. About a minute or two later, the car's display screen will give me the option of transferring the call to bluetooth, but as stated above, that transfer process is terrible and often results in dropped calls or the call being put on hold for about 30 seconds. These are not issues tied to the car being driven at the time; these problems happen when I am trying to make a call from the vehicle while it is parked. I love the way this car drives (and it is AWESOME in the Cleveland snow), but the electronic stuff is such an enormous daily irritation that I refuse to get another Honda when my lease runs out (and this is the 3rd Honda that I have owned). Seriously thinking about a CHEVROLET Traverse for next time."
Julie G., OH (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)"Phone pairing with Bluetooth only works about 25% of the time. Honda refuses to update the system and has been very condescending to owner groups."
Mick M., VA (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"Unable to use hands free phone capability. Apparently this model of Pilot is not capable of communicating with the latest I phone software"

Anonymous, NJ (2016 Honda Pilot Elite 3.5-L V6)"The car has not paired properly with my Iphone since it was 4 months old. I have given up on Honda to address the problem. on outgoing calls, I have to wait until the receiving party actually answers before the phone gives me the option to switch the call to the speaker and I have to manually select a button on the screen to do so. Honda has provided no software updates to address the issue after numerous complaints at the dealer."
Robert C., TX (2016 Honda Pilot EX 3.5-L V6)"Would not pair after initially pairing.. all dealer could do was reset the system, losing all saved information. It would then work well for a few days and required a new appointment and trip to dealer (90 minute drive)"
M M., NS (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"This vehicle's infotainment system is terrible. Bluetooth pairing is inconsistent - it doesn't detect presence of a phone and must be rebooted sporadically. In general, it suffers from an extremely poor human-factors design . Target functions require multiple steps to successfully use (e.g Bluetooth pairing is buried in unintuitive menus). The touchscreen doesn't always detect touch... sort of like wrapping your iPad in Saranwrap. Simple functions like changing the radio/volume/accessing songs on phone are frustratingly difficult. That, plus the poor maintainability of the vehicle (have you seen where they buried the battery in this thing???), would keep me from buying what is otherwise a decent vehicle."
Nicole H., GA (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"The car sometimes struggles to connect a call when received and bluetooth is in use. Problem seems to come and go and is very frustrating"
Thomas V., VA (2016 Honda Pilot Elite 3.5-L V6)"To this day, I cannot plug in my iPhone with a USB cable: the InfoSystem has destroyed the OS on Two iPhones already (verified by Apple Tech): Honda officially notified me their Tech Team now says you cannot do that and use the phone, or access music while the phone is plugged in...?!"

Joe C., OR (2016 Honda Pilot Touring 3.5-L V6)"The whole point of blue tooth pairing is so that it happens quickly and automatically when u enter the car so u can safely and hands-free talk on the phone. The service department gave me some lame excuse that some phones are not compatible with their system. I have an iPhone. It has to be one of them sit if to the most popular phone out there. This is the excuse? Ridiculous"

Quote from one of their service reps: my dad said you should never buy a car the first year it's available. Very insulting, my Honda Pilot is a $40,000 vehicle and I expect it to be perfect."
Mick M., VA (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"Never worked right. Useless."
Anonymous, OH (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"As CR has duly noted - repeatedly - the info-tainment system on the Pilot is terrible. There are no knobs; everything is done on a touch screen that is very insensitive, causing you to have to touch the screen hard and often to get it to respond. Despite several visits to the dealer, the voice activation system to make a call or receive a voice version of a text does not work. We have given up trying. I like the Pilot, but it is appalling that Honda has continued to sell the Pilot for four model years without remedying this system. I assume they will remedy it with the next iteration of the Pilot, probably in the 2021 or 2022 model year."
Patrick B., MI (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"The system sometimes has a hard time deciphering addresses. I speak very clear English (my only language) and I have updated the maps. It’s frustrating when you are late for a granddaughter’s soccer game and can’t get the system to find an address so you have to pull over and enter the address manually."
Paula Z., ID (2016 Honda Pilot Elite 3.5-L V6)"Basic lack of recognition. Give command and you get this silly "Pardon? No command was heard". If you turn off the voice prompt then it seems to be even less likely to understand the command. Tell it a person to call and it displays a few numbers. Not phone numbers. Just a few digits"
Anonymous, WA (2016 Honda Pilot EX 3.5-L V6)"The voice commands do NOT work. The infotainment system was programmed by a dyslexic, left handed, drunken malcontent on a bad bay. It's a $40,000 vehicle and it has terrible wind noise from the right side of the cabin. The radio controls are ridiculous. Honda refuses to enable Android Auto or Apple Carplay. Unacceptable!"
Mick M., VA (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"It cannot hear my commands nor can it hear or understand the service persons"
Anonymous, CA (2016 Honda Pilot EX-L 3.5-L V6)"Stopped working completely. It took Honda 10 months to correct the problem after me visiting 8 times to Honda dealers. There was absolutely NO improvement in the system. The final fix which completely solved the problem by a software update"
