Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

“Noticeable hesitation in transmission shifting that mfg says is within spec. That maybe so but it is noticeable”

Anonymous, OH (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

“Could use more power and a 6-speed automatic transmission. Gets good gas mileage, though. This is my wife's car.”

ROBERT S., QC (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

“acceleration is not so great and at higher speed car engine is noisy and vibrates a lot”

Anonymous, ON (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

“Handling seems good, but acceleration is a little slow and noisy.”

Anonymous, VA (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

“I was driving about 65 mph in the right lane on a freeway when a tractor-trailer passed me. Just ahead of me, a right rear tire exploded, filling the air with large tire fragments. I jerked the wheel to the right to avoid the large tire segment, then jerked the wheel to the left to try to avoid a foot-long tire tread segment, which hit my right fender. At that high speed, jerking the wheel one way and then the other, the Hyundai remained in perfect control.”

JOHN H., GA (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

“Good acceleration and agile handling.”

JIM L., MN (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

“great acceleration and handling ,interior is roomy and controls on steering wheel is handy, love all the cubby compartments.”

Anonymous, FL (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

“mediocre acceleration”

BERT C., MA (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

“Slight knock at z 30ish. Never got mileage claimed. Service at dealership poor.”

GREG B., FL (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“Hyundai dealer can't seem to get the AC working right for more than a few months. Why even take it back to them?”

KAREN C., VA (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

“Road noise excessive”

BRIAN G., ON (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

“The air conditioning reaching the back seat is minimal. The children often complain about the temperature.”

MICHELLE A., MD (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

“The A/C is a little weak on very hot days.”

JOAN S., FL (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

“Noisy ride, has always sounded like suspension is loose.”

BETTY S., MS (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

“I've had issues with the air conditioning.”

Anonymous, MA (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

“Seats could offer more lumbar support and seat cushioning. Climate control is excellent. There is too much road noise, and the ride is hard going over any bumps or road roughness.”

Anonymous, VA (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

“car rides harshly. feels even the smallest bumps.”

Anonymous, PA (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

“Needs vents for air conditioning for rear seat area passengers in front are cold while hot for rear passengers”

IAN W., FL (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

“The material of the seats is itchy/scratchy to me, and I don't feel like they are shaped in a way that is completely comfortable to me.”

Anonymous, MO (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

“Ride on this model is too stiff - but it's set that way for better handling.”

BART R., OR (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

“noise,ride”

FRANK D., FL (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

“Acceleration and gas mileage are very appeptable and there's ample room for carrying things to and from the cottage. Love the chili pepper red colour and the stereo has a good sound. Car is somewhat noisy inside but is well finished with quality parts. It starts and warms up quickly and is generally a pleasure to drive. Hyundai has taken it off the market now - pity, because I for one would happily buy another when mine grows too old.”

PHILIP B., NS (2009 Hyundai Elantra)
