"After driving for only 50,000 miles, the transmission slips and bucks occasionally, which is an annoyance."

Anonymous, VA (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

"I was driving about 65 mph in the right lane on a freeway when a tractor-trailer passed me. Just ahead of me, a right rear tire exploded, filling the air with large tire fragments. I jerked the wheel to the right to avoid the large tire segment, then jerked the wheel to the left to try to avoid a foot-long tire tread segment, which hit my right fender. At that high speed, jerking the wheel one way and then the other, the Hyundai remained in perfect control."

JOHN H., GA (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

"Good acceleration and agile handling."

JIM L., MN (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

"great acceleration and handling ,interior is roomy and controls on steering wheel is handy, love all the cubby compartments."

What Owners Say

"i have had to replace both the drivers window and front passenger window motor operators twice each. i have also had to replace the cabin fan motor, as it burned out, but even after replacement it is STILL not working unknown reasons why. on a minor note, i am annoyed that the cup-holder in the center is a non-removable unit, i can't clean it very well from spills..."

R L., MN (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

"Suspension in 09 SE is bone rattling stiff but nat all that good at handling. so interior noise from shakes and there is a fair amount of road noise and wind noise. Seats are nicely supportive but no lumbar adjustment"

Anonymous, PA (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

"A bit noisy, seats comfortable but light color so don’t want to stain, big inside compared to other sedans."

Anonymous, CA (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

"I have the Touring GL model and the driver's seat has an lever to adjust lumbar support. Easy to use and with my bad back, a good feature. Being a small wagon I find the car somewhat noisy and harsh when empty but sedated nicely with a medium to heavy load aboard. The Michelin Defender tires I use are excellent for control and wear, though prone to raod noise feedback."

BART R., OR (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

FRANK D., FL (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

"Acceleration and gas mileage are very appeptable and there's ample room for carrying things to and from the cottage. Love the chili pepper red colour and the stereo has a good sound. Car is somewhat noisy inside but is well finished with quality parts. It starts and warms up quickly and is generally a pleasure to drive. Hyundai has taken it off the market now - pity, because I for one would happily buy another when mine grows too old."

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

Anonymous, MD (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

"I am very satisfied with the value. The car has many safety features, it gets good MPG, the ride is comfortable."

"I don't drive a lot of miles since I retired about 5 years ago. I bought this car new and have been happy with it ever since. Was able to get a good deal."

Anonymous, TX (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

"Second to last year when Elantras were actually made in South Korea where the workers took pride in what they were building for their export market. Build quality is very high for such a "basic" car."

Robert S., QC (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

"Just a wonderful automobile"

Frank S., PA (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

"Car had problems with electrical system since I bought it; the electric door locks & trunk release were very inconsistent due to bad programming. At least 7 dealers attempted repair without success, until finally a dealer did another attempt with success-so now the doors lock and stay locked, don't randomly unlock/lock, and the trunk doesn't open randomly (including while driving, while parked at shopping malls. etc.)."

David D., IA (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

"I purchased the car new and have almost 180,000 miles. There were ZERO items that needed fixing other than normal maintenance. For an inexpensive car this is the best bang for the buck you can get while having basic handling, comfort, economy, and safety."

"Purchase price in relation to engineering reliability is a big bang for the buck."

John D., CT (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

"One of my BETTER choices in cars for satisfaction in ownership. Simple, but DEPENDABLE, very fine handling, very good visibility, electrical system, heating, upkeep."

Anonymous, RI (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

"This is a very reliable car. In 95,000 miles has not failed even once due to drivetrain issues. Outside of brake pads, oil changes, tires, battery and issues caused by accidents, the car has needed no time in the repair shop whatsoever."

Stephen M., MD (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

"Couldn't beat the price"

Anonymous, OH (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

THOMAS N., NJ (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

It is also used for carrying large grocery orders, trips to the dump and is an economical alternative to my Genesis."

Anonymous, MD (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

Aneesh K., ON (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

"This car is now nine years old and I still call it my "new" car. It rides and handles exactly like it did when I bought it. Marcia L., CT (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

"The vehicle is very reliable and only ever required normal servicing, timing belt and brake replacements (rotors and pads)."

Robert S., QC (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

"Great gas mileage, great reliability, reasonable initial cost, great load capacity. The only negative is a typical stiff suspension, small car bumpy ride. Otherwise we love this car."

Anonymous, IL (2009 Hyundai Elantra)

"The really good thing about Hyundai (in the past) is that they put all the desirable features I wanted on the SE line, and didn't load it up with high cost items I really didn't want. Of course others may feel differently. I wanted bigger than standard wide alloy wheels and low aspect ratio tires for the superior handling and braking power they provide. I wanted the 6-speed automatic. The 1.8L 4 has computer controlled camshaft rotation (for wide power + wide torque band), and other high tec..."
