This version of the Elantra was a well-rounded competitor with rankings near the top of our small-sedan Ratings. An easy car with which to live, the Hyundai combines nimble handling with comfort and a well-controlled ride. The car also offers a neatly laid out and well-equipped interior. However, the coupe-like stylling dictates a beltline that swoops upward toward the rear. This can impede the view to the rear quarters.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

“The gear shifting is not very responsive to the road. Turning corners requires more handling(acceleration and steering) then I'm used to. Driving up moderate hills requires heavier footwork than it should. My previous 2005 Elantra was excellent in these regards.”

IRWIN R., NV (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“The steering lacks feel or feed back on centre. Other manufacturers get their electric steering right. ???”

DAVID R., ON (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“Good handling - different steering modes to choose from.”

DAVID P., PA (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“the acceleration is a bit slow and jerky”

LAURA H., OH (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“Very lazy acceleration, rear suspension makes the car dancing on uneven road - non secure driving (on dry road). Excessive engine and road noise.”

Anonymous, ON (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“I think accelerating is challenging at times, especially is air conditioner is on. I also find steering stiff.”

Anonymous, NY (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“Looses power/won't accelerate, currently in the Hyundai shop for 5 weeks with problem. Lemmon law fieled.”

Anonymous, FL (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“Handles really well, especially cornering. We always drive in Eco mode so acceleration is adequate but not stellar.”

FRANK K., CO (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“VERY POOR traction in snow. In fact it is the only car in 27 years that I can't get up my driveway when there is some snow on the driveway.”

Anonymous, NY (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“All good, the best handling car I have ever owned, and the acceleration is more than adequate even in eco mode. Goes up steep hills with no effort.”

Anonymous, PA (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“We find it very comfortable in town and surprisingly comfortable on the highway. I'm surprised; we intended it for city driving only. At highway speeds, it gets excellent gas mileage. And while most reviewers disliked the handling, but I find it very good; planted and controllable.”

JAMES F., SC (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“hugs the road very well; handles turns very well. must be patient to get the vehicle up to desired speed.”

JOSEPH C., FL (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“Brakes are somewhat loud at times when braking suddenly.”

ERIC R., MD (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“Car hesitates on part-throttle acceleration from both standing start or rolling start. For a 2 litre engine, the apparent power is disappointingly sparse and this makes turning across traffic and merging problematic if not dangerous.”

Anonymous, TX (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“I had an 06 Elantra which was a great car. It was eaiser on the road. The 14 is more like a race car. Road noise is a problem.”

JOHN R., TX (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“It handles very well and has good acceleration.”

TERRY M., CA (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“Handling is nice. Great gas mileage and a great car for someone in sales.”

NANCY M., AL (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“Very pronounced road noise”

Anonymous, PA (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“The seats, in fact the whole interior, looks nice, but they are not comfortable after just a few miles. The cushions are stiff and even with lumbar support, they are difficult to adjust to a comfortable position.”

MICHAEL E., KS (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“a little noisy”

TOM R., BC (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“Road noise excessive and sight lines difficult.”

BRIAN G., ON (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“The outside noise heard with windows slightly open is loud and you're unable to hear the radio. Also noisy with all windows up and the ride is rough even on comfort mode.”

Anonymous, IL (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“The car is VERY noisy on the highway... so much so that if you wanted to listen to music in a long trip it would probably give you a headache. Also, the car does not track well and needs very frequent directional correction. My Santa Fe will track withiut such constant attention every couple seconds.”

Anonymous, IL (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“Outside this car is beautiful. All controls are intuitive and they look very nice. But; Seat are unconfortable, AC is so so, ugly noise of engine and harsh ride, cheap tires, lazy acceleration, cheap plasics inside, wrong angle between the windshield and the dashboard (air outlets are visible in the windshield all the day), rear suspension makes the car dancing on uneven road - not secure driving (dry road). The car key is like 30 years ago - two pieces, this is a shame. This is the cheapest an”

Anonymous, ON (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“Great seats and driving position but so noisy, especially at highway speeds.”

Anonymous, ON (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“I love the leather seats - very comfortable to drive. I just wish it were a little quieter. Excellent in all other areas.”

Anonymous, VA (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“A little noisy on the road”

LEROY B., OR (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“Very stylish not cheap interior”

DAVID P., PA (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“Seats are hard and rough on the road.”

Anonymous, NH (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“Would have liked lumbar support. There are no air vents In the rear seats. This is a big fault that would probably make me not buty this again.”

NANCY E., MO (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“The road noise is awful. Very very loud.”

DAVID D., MA (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“No lumbar support like I had in my Hyundai Accent”

Anonymous, IL (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“The heated seats option is excellent. Ohio winters can be very cold and within a few minutes (2-3) a warm seat is very comforting. The ride/comforrt could be improved maybe with better shocks and/or suspension.”

Anonymous, OH (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“Ride and ride”

LIZA C., CA (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“Fun car to drive and it is very comfortable. The road noise is not as pronounced which I like.”

Anonymous, AZ (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

“Gas mileage far less than advertised (and subject to regulatory action)”

Anonymous, MA (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“The price advertised not closed to the offer in show room. When asked about the ad price the dealership said they had to bait and switch because other Hyundai dealer in area did it and was only way for them to compete.”

Anonymous, TX (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“Well satisfied with all features except the Navigation system. It is confusing and it seems that it does not recognize 30% of the addresses, even older addresses.”

JERRY M., OH (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“got 13% off sticker”

“I thinkI paid too much and did not drive a good bargain with the dealer.”

Anonymous, NY (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“The dealer overcharged by about $2000l But the car handles well, accellerates well is comfortable, stylish, and dependable.”

TERRY M., CA (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“Bought as a leftover for $15800,got the gt model, roomy( picked up 10 bags of mulch), satellite radio, heated seats and mirrors, sport suspension and steering, nice wheels handles great, plenty of power even in eco mode, mileage better than sticker shows, gets 30 mpg around town”

Anonymous, PA (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“We haven't had a single problem with this Elantra or any of the Hyundai's that we've owned. We have been driving them for the last 9 years and the gas mileage is great.”

Anonymous, AZ (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“Got it as a used Hertz rental for well below average Blue Book. Road noise could be better but I would never expect better in this price range. Fuel efficiency is amazing.”

PAUL R., WA (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“The car price and the options available makes this car a good value for the money. Paying more would have been less value but better quality.”

M N., NJ (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“Bigger inside than it looks. Leather seats are comfortable. It's not a powerful car but it gets up to freeway speeds fast enough.”

JAMES W., OR (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“We got a very good price on this car, probably due to my husband's experience as a collections manager for a credit union.”

Anonymous, KS (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“We now think that the smaller model would have suited us just as well and would have cost less. We were not happy with the way we were up sold. However, it is a good car.”

CARMEL S., ON (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“The car looks really nice and drives well. Best combination that we found for the price. Too bad they discontinued the coupe model!”

FRANK K., CO (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“We feel we received excellent value from our 2014 Elantra Sport Limited. It has great styling a 2.0 L 4 cylinder engine that gets decent gas mileage with leather heated seats, sun roof, alloy wheels, all for just at $20k with a 10 yr 100,000 mile warranty.”

ROD B., NE (2014 Hyundai Elantra)

“Front bumper and front wheel and engines sheilds break way too easily...on parking barriers@”

GARY N., FL (2014 Hyundai Elantra)
