Driving Experience
Includes acceleration and handling
What Owners Say
"With active cruise control engaged, I have had two instances where the car did not perceive the car in front of me and began to accelerate rapidly. Paying attention I took control and slowed down. I am not sure when it might have detected the vehicle."
Fred A., CA (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"Acceleration is average but handling is good and it’s easy."
Anonymous, FL (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"Needs more power and better handling. The Sport model offers these features, but does not allow you to add the many safety features that are important to us."
Anonymous, NJ (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"land change, collision avoidance and good acceleration"
David B., AB (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"Acceleration is fine. Ride is a bit on the harsh side."
Anonymous, CA (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"The acceleration is excellent. I am somewhat dissatisfied with the response to the cruise control."
Anonymous, WA (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"The acceleration is fine for me. Handling I think is great"
David C., FL (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"Excellent steering and handling."
Donna C., MS (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"Great car, acceleration up a hill is lacking. It is fine from a stop light."
Anonymous, CA (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"The safety features are awesome and make my driving experience superior to any car I have ever driven. Excellent pickup and control make the car fun to drive."
Anonymous, TX (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"Being only a 4 cyl. it can be noisy when accelerating quickly"
Anonymous, ON (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"Don’t like the lack of acceleration."
Anonymous, KY (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"For a young man or women in college this would be a perfect starter car. Backup camera, android play, good room inside and nice to drive."
Adrian J., CT (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"It doesn't accerate fast enough"
Anonymous, BC (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"Three driving modes. Standard, eco and sport. Sport is clearly effect in city driving becAuse of rapid aeleration etc.Hahdling very good."
Marsha H., NC (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"It doesn't have enough power."
Holly S., NC (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"Warning system is excellent"
Anonymous, AZ (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"It has 3 driving modes. If I want to make a quick acceleration I use the sport mode. If I'm on an interstate highway and use the economy mode I nearly always get around a 43 mpg. The third mode is sort of a combination of the other two modes."
Mary B., LA (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"If someone else drives her, I can put her back to my specs for driving in a snap"
Anonymous, ON (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"Acceleration is sluggish at best. It’s a 2liter, 4 cylinder engine and my previous car wa a 4.6 liter 6 cylinder engine, so I guess I’m a little underwhelmed by the Hyundai’s performance."
Joseph P., IL (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"good acceleration and steering, mileage, very responsive."
Scott G., IN (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"The Hyundai accelerates quickly and smoothly, and has plenty of power to get out of any tight situations. It handles very responsively."
P D., TX (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"Slow, loud, with lots of road noise"
James B., AZ (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"The car drives great but it is too low! The first week I had it a car stop had exposed rebar and it tore the bottom of the car. Also, it is very noisy when travelling at on highways."
Anonymous, FL (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"excellent transportation, comfortable, economic, nice looking and an excellent value for the price."
Anonymous, FL (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"Acceration at low end on a turn is poor, you have to accelerate hard to get it to move. The ride is hard."
Anonymous, IL (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"This Elantra Eco is marketed as an economy compact sedan. But it will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds, faster than the regular Elantra with a bigger 2 liter engine. The small 1.4 liter Eco engine allows for the high fuel economy but the turbocharger offers instant response to the gas pedal. It is an amazing little engine. The dual clutch transmission offers faster shifts than trying to speed shift a manual transmission. Because this car is basically a stick shift car that happens to be shifted automatically, there is some hesitation starting in first gear from a dead stop in slow traffic. This is not a car to use for commuting to work if you have a long commute in very heavy, slow moving rush hour traffic. If you have no traffic and you just floor the gas pedal from a dead stop, the dual clutch has no problem with a very quick acceleration to whatever your top speed target. It will really surprise you the first time you really need the power. I sure was very surprised and very happy to know I got a free high performance car when I thought I just got a high mpg sedan. The Android Auto gave me excellent free navigation through my Motorola smart phone and enjoyed my chosen songs from my Spotify playlist through the cars excellent speakers, also coming through my smart phone. There is nothing that is bad about this car. I would have preferred a hatch back like a Prius and I wanted to buy the new Hyundai Ioniq but that car was not discounted because it had just been introduced and new models get full msrp list price. I figured that I will never save enough on gas if I had bought the Ioniq at full price compared to the $5600 less I paid for the Elantra Eco even if gas goes to $5 per gallon."
Alvin M., TX (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"I just like the overall experience at the price. It’s reliable and stylish."
Anonymous, NY (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"Excellent handling, noticed this feature when driving on mountain passes."
John N., CA (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"I find the the car drives great, but I find the steering loose. The car doees not always track properly."
David S., NC (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"poor acceleration on steep hills."
Anonymous, AL (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"doesn't have enough power when trying to merge with traffic on 401 highway. Poor passing power you better be sure you have enough room to pass."
Wayne B., ON (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"This vehicle rides very nicely while still being capable slicing into a curve. It's no BMW, but it offers the ride comfort of a Toyota Corolla with the handling of a Ford Fusion, a nice combination."
Robert R., MN (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"SMOOTH ACCELERATION, USING ECON MODE MOSTLY: HAVE LOTS OF UPHILL GRADES IN MY EVERYDAY DRIVING - HAVE AUTO TRANSMISSION - SMOOTH SHIFTING ON THE GRADES TOO. HANDELING EASY, NOT TOO TIGHT, DEFINATELY NOT LOOSE. I'M NOT PULLING TO EITHER DIRECTION OR HAVE ANY WOBBLE. VERY PLEASED HERE."
Keith D., NH (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"everything on this car works fine accept the phone part. It does not understand or it can't hear you. It is pane in the butt."
Anonymous, UT (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"Acceleration is great, even better in sport mode."
Anonymous, CA (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"Amazing acceleration! Has been helpful in many situations. Braking is also exceptional. The driving modes really do change performance. I have been tempted to consider trying it on a road course. (I would not be here had I followed thru!)(My wife would not be happy at all)"
Dan W., IL (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"Transmission seems to hesitate in ECO mode when increasing speed. I haven’t driven in the SPORT mode. Or checked the transmission. It handles good for me."
Brenda W., TX (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"I am pleased with the handling and acceleration of this car."
M M., NY (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"* Acceleration is adequate; but could be improved. * Tiny bit noisy in highway. * Overall handling and safety features are A+."
Anonymous, CA (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"Good acceleration and precise steering wheel."
Anonymous, CA (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"Goid all riund for tge money"
Anonymous, AZ (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"It is not very fast but it is acceptable. The torque is good for most passing needs and makes up for the low hp. It handles well and I love all of the safety features that came with the car - the rear cross traffic alert, the blind spot monitor, crash protection, etc. The navigation screen is very well thought out. The mpg is excellent so far."
Thomas M., WA (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"Smooth and quick"
Anonymous, IL (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"The Elantra ride and handling are great, but on California's concrete freeways that have the groove payment, it feels like you are hydroplaning, even though the conditions are dry."
Kenneth T., CA (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"The acceleration is acceptable and the handling is very good on the smooth and straight Florida roads."
Jeff M., FL (2017 Hyundai Elantra)"Handles very well and accelation is good."
