What Owners Say
"Very rough shifts in low gears as well as laggy acceleration despite being a v6"
Anonymous, VA (2017 Jeep Cherokee)"I have been very satisfied with how my Cherokee drives. The ride is very smooth and shifting is not noticeable. I have not test driven the V-6 however and I’m curious what difference it would make."
Marcy S., NY (2017 Jeep Cherokee)"V8 Hemi has excellent acceleration. Option to select sport suspension and steering is great for increasing handling options."
Anonymous, PA (2017 Jeep Cherokee)"Thrashy, gutless 4 cylinder engine. Poor response from transmission."
Irene M., PA (2017 Jeep Cherokee)"Handles well, a little less tight than my Chevy Cruz, but still pretty good"
Anonymous, MI (2017 Jeep Cherokee)"Firm steering, lane avoidance system, adequate power, cruise control system, quite, smooth ride."
Anonymous, MN (2017 Jeep Cherokee)"This drives like a sports car and goes like a Jeep over terrain. Hard to believe the ride and handling with a vehicle there s capable"
Walter R., MO (2017 Jeep Cherokee)"Acceleration hesitation comes & goes and is not smooth. Sometimes steering seems to not be responsive, but other times it is. Very erratic."
Anonymous, NM (2017 Jeep Cherokee)"This Cherokee has a 9 speed transmission with a hill descent control. If the vehicle is driven in the drive gearing with the computer controlling the shifts, the rpm usually runs about 1,000 rpm, which under hilly country is low for the power that the 3.2 engine produces. In order to negotiate hills or pass another vehicle, there is a lag time in shifting which can cause safety issues on mountain roads. Gearing is too high for the engine. I have never been able to get the transmission into gear 9 even on long, down hill mountain roads. No reason to have all the gears, I always override the computer and do the shifting myself to keep the rpm's within a higher area, say 2 to 3 thousand rpm where the power band of the engine begins to produce the power needed to drive the mountain roads of Idaho. Descent on steep mountain roads depends mostly on the brakes with little engine hold back. On 8 and 10 mile descents, brakes heat up and could fail. The descent control cannot be used on the open highway since it is designed to function on off-road driving where speeds are run in the low range of the transfer case and can cause very erratic speeds and jerking if the throttle is not carefully applied, which is impossible on rough roads."
Anonymous, ID (2017 Jeep Cherokee)"4 cylinder engine provides less power than I like. My fault, should have purchased a larger engine."
Anonymous, IL (2017 Jeep Cherokee)"Great acceleration for a 4 cylinder."
Andrew K., FL (2017 Jeep Cherokee)"Acceleration in stop and go traffic and ascending hills is slow and poor. However, when you place transmission in manual shift mode all issues disappear."
Anonymous, CA (2017 Jeep Cherokee)"To be a 6 cylinder SUV, the acceleration is terrible, especially on any kind of hilly roads, even small inclines"
Sylvia S., IL (2017 Jeep Cherokee)"The Jeep Cherokee is very responsive in acceleration and steering. It is the most stable feeling SUV we driving and we've owned or driven most of them."
Douglas B., SD (2017 Jeep Cherokee)"Handles well for an SUV. Does not lean in corners and handles sharp bumps with ease. Acceleration with the V6 is adequate for every situation I have encountered so far. Goes through snow like no vihicle I have ever owned. Surprisingly capable off road."
Martin D., AB (2017 Jeep Cherokee)"Drives very well. Some occassional hesitation in transmission shifting."
Anonymous, NY (2017 Jeep Cherokee)"Excellent power and performance with 9 speed transmition. Good passing power. Pull a light (3000gwt) trailer with no problem. Default two weel front wheel drive is great in Colorado mountains. Three different all-wheel drives all work great in unique situations - move to AWD automatically or select snow, sand/mud"
Roger P., CO (2017 Jeep Cherokee)"Active drive II works very well."
Anonymous, CO (2017 Jeep Cherokee)"I absolutely love the adaptive cruise control. It works perfectly and makes highway driving a joy. My only minor complaint is that sometimes you can't accelerate quickly immediately from a sudden stop. It seems to need a second or two to drop down to first gear."
Dave G., ON (2017 Jeep Cherokee)"Very good acceleration with the V-6 engine. The ride has a nice tight feel."
Loring L., ID (2017 Jeep Cherokee)"Drives well, corners well"
Anonymous, NM (2017 Jeep Cherokee)"love the vehicle, excellent driving and handling both on and off road. Performs well on snow, ice, wet and dry roads"
Anonymous, IL (2017 Jeep Cherokee)
"Has all the power I need for acceleration, cruise control holds the speed very well, even of steep hills, handles very well in curves, really a nice driving experience. The eight speed transmission is very smooth."
