The Cherokee finally gives Jeep a small SUV for those who want the brand's trail cred but don't want to pay Grand Cherokee prices. And while it does offer a lot of workhorse capability for this class, it fails to get a lot of the day-to-day basics right. The list of flaws is long. Performance and fuel economy from the four-cylinder engine is pathetic.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Owner Satisfaction with:

Driving Experience

Includes acceleration and handling

What Owners Say

"acceleration and handling are very good, better than I expected"

Walter W., CO (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"Very responsive. performs great."

Andrew K., FL (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"Acceleration is good but the car drives like a heavy car"

Anonymous, CA (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"All wheel drive makes handling feel very secure."

Donna C., MS (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"6 cyl engine accelerates quickly. Jeep is fun to drive in all weather conditions."

Anonymous, MI (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"V6 is strong, transmission is smooth"

Anonymous, IN (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"Worst transmission ever. Rough shifting and changes gears at the wrong time. I can drive a manual more smoothly than this thing shifts."

Richard M., CO (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"Transmission does not always down-shift properly."

J H., WV (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"Transmission is choppy switching between forward and reverse. Response to accelerator is often sluggish."

Sarah-Frank M., UT (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"I have the V6 engine and that engine seems to be the right fit for the Cherokee while giving good acceleration and still maintaining decent gas mileage. Vehicle handles well on winding roads and the highway."

Charles B., MD (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"Turns sharp, more rugged on bumpy roads and over potholes."

Anonymous, WY (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"Pulling out into traffic or trying to merge or pass really takes planning. The transmission has a hard time choosing what gear to be in often causing a dangerous in my mind, delay. The 2.4L engine, while trouble free so far, is not adequate for that size of a vehicle. I really should have taken this on a better test drive before purchasing."

Steven K., CA (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Seats are more comfortable than my 2016 Jeep Cheorkee"

Anonymous, MI (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"Seats and ride are very comfortable considering it is a 4-wheel drive vehicle. Vehicle noise is more than I lam used to from previous Buick vehicle I had."

Anonymous, PA (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"Great ride, low noise. Seats are very comfortable"

Jeffrey J., CO (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"Seats have a cooler in them which we really appreciate in our hot climate."

Anonymous, CA (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"Very supportive seats, multi-function seat controls, heated seats are great, the noise level is pretty good considering it's an SUV, ride is reliable."

Anonymous, IN (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"Good support and adjustability. Like fabric used"

Anonymous, IN (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"The seats are very comfortable and so is the ride with low wind noise"

Anonymous, NY (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"Uncomfortable drivers seat. It's a Jeep, so louder and bumpi.er"

Anonymous, WY (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"Seats in the limited trim are VERY comfortable. Road noise is very low."

Sarah L., ME (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"When I test drove a multitude of different vehicles, I found the Jeep to be quieter than luxury models such as Lexus and Infinity"

Anonymous, OK (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"Seats are firm, but the leather is of good quality. I appreciate the ventilated seat function"

James W., AZ (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"Very comfortable on long trips, accelerates smoothly and quickly when needed"

Walter W., CO (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"A great feeling of being safe and secure"

Steven G., MI (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"The Overland trim has very comfortable upright seats with good room all around, and excellent visibility. The ride is smooth and quiet, characteristic of a luxury vehicle."

Geoff S., CO (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"Wonder solid ride. Plush comfortable leather seats."

Donna C., MS (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"I love my Jeep Cherokee more and more the more I drive it. The only things I do not like are that the gas tank appears to be small and it does not get very good gas mileage. I put in gas too often."

Marla L., CA (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"The Jeep Cherokee came nicely equipped with just the right options for the money. Got a nice discount at the dealership on the Latitude Plus model. Vehicle drives nice and handles well on winding roads."

Charles B., MD (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"great deal for the price paid. Great value."

Andrew K., FL (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"Just purchased"

Anonymous, ON (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"Good value for the price I paid considering the features on the car."

Jeffrey J., CO (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"Value- pretty darn good. I leased for the 1st time ever- and with zero down my monthly lease is $270. [36 mo; low-mileage lease]. I did the math and the USED Jeep Liberty is owned prior with depreciation plus tires and repairs = $250 per month over 4 years. Why pay 250 for a USED vehicle when you can pay $270 for a brand new one? Well... one reason: after 4 years I OWNED the "used". After 3 years, I'll just be handing back the keys and will have no equity."

Scott P., PA (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"For the options and quality I got for what I paid on this vehicle, I would have had to pay twice as much for any comprable brand."

Anonymous, OK (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"Seems on par with luxury vehicles (ex. Volvo) for a more reasonable price. All of the tech features I wanted (safety and adaptive cruise control) were available, in the past they were only expensive options on luxury cars."

Geoff S., CO (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"The main reason I bought the Jeep Cherokee is the price. No other car maker had a nicer vehicle for the price. I really like the body style and the seats are very comfortable. In fact, my car is much more comfortable than vehicles priced for more."

Marla L., CA (2018 Jeep Cherokee)

"For the price it should have more safety products built in such as lane departure and more sensors for back up warning !"

Ronald H., IL (2018 Jeep Cherokee)
