This version of the Grand Cherokee is cramped and noisy. It also lacks comfort and agility. Handling is unimpressive, though secure. Off-road, however, the Grand Cherokee shines.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Anonymous, IA (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Easy to get in and out of. Comfortable seats."

GEORGE L., OR (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Too uncomfortable (noisy, road-feel) for long highway travel. Otherwise, great around town and short (1-2 day) travel."

Anonymous, IL (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"road noise and wind noise could be better"

LARRY L., LA (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"The Jeep is an absolutely great car that is very reliable and I may never sell or need to replace. The only draw back is the the way they designed the climate control with a poorly made vent door deep within the air delivery vents that require complete removal of dash board to correct using factory methods. An easier work-around can be done (documented on internet) and I have done this making it better than original design."

Anonymous, NY (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Air conditioning is weak and insufficient to cool interior on hottest days."

GARY G., PA (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Outside noise is terrible. Cooling is a bit weak in hot weather (heating system belongs at the north pole!)."

Anonymous, FL (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Front Seat frame has broken several times. Had to have welding repairs made. Finally found aftermarket parts that were made to be much stronger to solve the problem."

ERIC S., MI (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Seats are comfortable and supportive even after 14 years. The seats have survived very well with kids growing up in the vehicle."

Anonymous, AK (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Very excessive road noise."

Anonymous, FL (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Excellent seats, small but comfortable."

David D., IL (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"the comfort has declined with age on this car. The seats aren't as comfortable, the leather seats show many cracks and the road noise has increased due to the age of the rubber gaskets around the doors and windows"

Anonymous, GA (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Seats are somewhat soft and they don't have a lot of support"

Priscilla A., NY (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"the seats, heaters and cushions are great in this. with the correct tires, the noise levels are great for an SUV;"

Anonymous, MD (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Great car hope to get 200000 miles on this one last jeep had 190000 when sold it still ran good"

Joseph T., TN (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Rise is good."

Gary G., PA (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

Anonymous, KS (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

Anonymous, IN (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Seats have held up amazingly for its age both surface and padding, and we have had kids growing up in the back seat for the last 10 years. The ride, especially off-road is very comfortable and still very reassuring. The only off road capable SUV that matches this is a Range Rover."

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"paid $50K, the front seat caught fire after 6months. Chrysler would only provide another one if I paid $25K. Engine & transmission oil pans rusted out. The Jeep body is rusting beyond belief. Very un-reliable. Piece of junk for $50K"

KEN R., ON (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Excellent 4WD system, and the car has been very reliable for the 12 years we've owned it."

LINDA T., OR (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Very dependable, dealer serviced every 3000 miles. Now have 130000 miles and still feels good."

Anonymous, PA (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"We purchased the last year of the inline 6 cyclinder engine with towing and off-road suspension. Great value for the money as we used the Jeep for rehabbing our house, towing large equipment even in deep snow. Also get over 21 MPG at highway speeds - 70 MPH. Never put in a garage and the paint except for the lip of hood is in very good shape 12 years later."

LAWRENCE K., OH (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"I bought it in 2006 for 19500 it had 65000 miles on it . it now has 141300 on it . I keep it maintained no major repairs have been needed . it has been repaired 3 times due to accident damage."

Anonymous, IN (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"We bought the Jeep with 96,000 miles on it and for $12,000. The Jeep started overheating not long after we bought it. It turns out that the engine block was cracked. It cost $5,000 to replace it with the help of a friend who is a mechanic. The dealership quoted us $7,200."

AMANDA H., WA (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"The trim on the body failed, causing rust, lots of it. Noise from the outside was huge, very uncomfortable noise levels because seals on doors & windows were bad."

JUDI R., FL (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"I had to replace too many expensive parts very prematurely because factory equipment was inherently defective or short-lived."

Anonymous, FL (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"I have had very little problems with my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo since I bought the vehicle. It rides smooths and the gas milage is great. I have had very little repairs with my jeep. Would not trade it for anything else. I will get a second car for my wife but will not trade my jeep."

NILES M., CO (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Our Jeep has been a strong workhorse for 12 years. It can pull our boats and trailers easily and we can load it up with lumber, furniture, and almost anything around our house with ease."

Joan V., CT (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"We bought it new and have had just as much issues with a 2016 Toyota in one year as with a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee over 13 years."

Anonymous, AK (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"It has been very reliable with no major issues. I have just had to maintain it. Only issue has been a leak into the drivers side and after 3 visits, it appears to have been sealed"

Priscilla A., NY (2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee)
