With the 2011 redesign of the Grand Cherokee, Jeep took its flagship midsized SUV completely upscale. Based on the redesigned Mercedes-Benz ML, the first new model from post-bankruptcy Chrysler was a big improvement over the SUV it replaced, with levels of fit, finish, and refinement rivaling models costing a lot more.

What Owners Say

"2012 JGC Overland: Gas mileage. Drove from Baltimore, MD to Hamilton, Ohio one 1 tank of gas with 5 people. Excellent acceleration for a V8."

Anonymous, MD (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"One of the reasons I purchased this car was for the drive/handling. The acceleration capability is exceptional as are the handling and braking. I have been able to avoid several accidents due to careless/distracted/aggressive drivers because of these attributes."

Anonymous, OK (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"The Jeep doesn't have enough gears and the acceleration is very rough and it seems to have a hard time selecting a gear. Major RPM rev sometimes even in deceleration because it can't decide what gear to pick."

Anonymous, OH (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"With the 5.7 Liter V8 Hemi, there is plenty of acceleration and power to maintain highway speeds. Handling is much better than expected for a SUV, probably due to Mercedes influence incorporated in this model."

Anonymous, TX (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Jerky acceleration and loss of power due to problems with the transmission programming and the cylinder shut off function which is designed to save fuel."

Anonymous, VA (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"This is a big powerful V8 that handles any road conditions, especially heavy snow, and has fast acceleration to access high speed highways etc. You cannot expect high gas mileage."

R B., PA (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Love both acceleration and handling on both highway and in city driving."

WARREN S., AZ (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Like the tight turning radius."

Anonymous, CA (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"V6 engine with off road suspension and multi mode transmission has allowed me compete confidence under any road/off road experience. This includes black ice, mud, snow and uneven road conditions ie potholes, curbs etc. The ability to adapt quickly to different road hazards is amazing. Quiet, smooth ride with passing ability a great vehicle."

"They are just not as comfortable as I think they should be for a vehicle in this price range. Short trips: no problem. Long Trips: It can get down right irritating not being able to find different positions to allay fatigue. The passenger seat is equally lacking in this area."

Anonymous, VA (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Road noise! Loud on highways"

Alan E., TX (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

Judith P., CA (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"This vehicle has leather seats which are heated and also cooled. The seats are also very comfortable, and electric settings make the positioning very easy. The vehicle is also equipped with an air ride suspension, making the rough roads much softer and also the cabin is very well insulated to isolate exterior noises."

Jean R., NB (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"The seats are very comfortable, and the ride is very good. However, it's somewhat noisy. It often sounds like a window is partway open - as if air is whooshing in or by, even when the window is not open. It has also developed some kind of 'rattle' that seems to originate somewhere in the dash.. but we can't figure out where."

Loretta L., ID (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

Anonymous, CO (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

Greg K., AZ (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Low noise and good ride. The rear seats are less comfortable."

Anonymous, AB (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Wonderful seat warmers."

Anonymous, VA (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"This car was almost $50,000, and the ride and the noise could certainly be much better for this money."

Gayle B., AZ (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"The seats are adjustable but not enough for my leg length which causes my driving leg to get uncomfortable on longer trips. The noise is very minimal. The vehicle ride is smooth."

Anonymous, MN (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"The ride is extremely comfortable and driving for short or long distances takes very little effort. The seats are comfortable and adjustable in many directions for both driver and front passenger, though I would like a little more side support. Noise level was super when new and is now starting to have some regular wind noise at high freeway speeds from a side window that had to be replaced. Overall, it's just an easy pleasant vehicle to spend time in."

Anonymous, MI (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"This vehicle is the most comfortable one I have ever owned. It is comparable to any luxury car/SUV."

Anonymous, CT (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Superior ride, quiet and very comfortable seating compared to any other SUV owned or traveled in!"

Chas E., NE (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Ride and noise level or good. Seats are very uncomfortable. Almost unbearable for long distances. Had to buy a gel cushion just to use"

Anonymous, CT (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

BRUCE O., CA (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Recently it has been 1 problem after the other. New tires are understandable but just had oil leak repaired, radiator replaced, brakes replaced, external leak repaired - all happening once warranty expired. Definitely recommend not purchasing or purchasing with a super extended warranty. Keep away from this car unless you’re very rich!!!"

Anonymous, NY (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"more luxurious amenities than a Cadillac at a cheaper price"

Terry S., PA (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Less cost than a Range Rover and can do more."

Robert A., KY (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Comfortable ride Smooth, easy handling Excellent reliability Good cargo space OK gas mileage"

Anonymous, CA (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Jeep reliability is POOR. I've had several trips to the dealer for problems that existed on previous models of Jeeps that have not been addressed (ex. unreliable heating and cooling that is very expensive to fix), plus problems that new cars aren't supposed to have (ex. power seat on hardly used passenger side that failed), and costly oil pump repair, check engine lights related to transfer case and torque converter to name a few. Car is fun to drive and gets me places in the mountains that other vehicles would struggle with, but I would try a highly reliable Toyota or Subaru next time around."

Anonymous, CO (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"We bought a cabin in the rugged countryside of Washington State, so traded in my Mustang for the Jeep Grand Cherokee. It's comfortable for long trips, my husband fits in fairly well, and it runs through rugged terrain very well. Good tires help! I just wish it got better gas mileage."

Linda W., WA (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"The Grand Cherokee is a great vehicle and many thousands, if not tens of thousands less than comparable SUV's."

Anonymous, CA (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"When purchased, our 2nd and 3rd choices were the Porsche Cayenne and Land Rover. The Jeep had all of features and capability of the others at about $20,000 less."

Anonymous, MI (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"I particularly like the Grand Cherokee. It performs well and has had virtually no problems. It is roomy and I like the style. It gets good gas mileage for a vehicle that size, and the cost is better than many of the other large SUVs while doing a better job for me. I drive off road from time to time, and this vehicle is exactly what I want."

James R., TX (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Great car. This is the second one we have owned and the first one had 190,000 miles after 11 years. This one is going strong and we love it."

Anonymous, KS (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"These vehicles seem to lose resale value pretty rapidly. I will probably keep this vehicle for many years. It is very comfortable for long road trips."

Dan-Sharon G., CO (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Very comfortable, capable in all road and weather conditions. Excellent drive train. Several recalls on braking, interior lights, lots of squeaks and rattles that are annoying. This a do everything vehicle, on and off road, seating for 5, lots of load capacity."

Russell L., AZ (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"You have a Mercedes SUV for half of the price but the service centers are the worth of the world they don't have Mercedes service that's the only difference between one another."

Reymundo T., PR (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Same as my comments on '15, but in the 3 years between the 12 & 15, much more equip. was made std. In 54K miles & 20K miles respectively, excluding recalls, other than oil, rotation & state mandated annual safety insp, neither vehicle has had a failure. I did buy new Goodyears' for the 12."

G H., VA (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

ADAM S., AZ (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Looks great in white. Very stylish"

ROBERT A., KY (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Best looking SUV in its class."

BRUCE O., CA (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Very pleased with the looks of the vehicle. Interior is especially comfortable and well appointed."

Anonymous, TX (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

Anonymous, NC (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"Two complaints: 1) door handle position is very awkward, I have to stretch VERY far to reach it when door is open. I'm 5'3" tall. It changes since the 2001 Limited model I owned didn't have this problem. 2) The handle is in the wrong position to be properly used when getting in the vehicle. My old jeep had a handle on the upright window support (not sure what that piece is called between the window and the door ), this jeep has the handle recessed in the headliner area where it cannot be useful"

Anonymous, VT (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"I believe it stands out over 99% of all SUV's at this time 2012 in styling, better than 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokees."

WARREN S., AZ (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)

"For Jeep to depart from boxy to smooth lines was quite a surprise. The styling of this model lends to a look of elegance."

ALAN E., TX (2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee)
