The MX-5 Miata is fun to drive, with extraordinary handling and a slick powertrain. The interior is nicely finished and the manual convertible top is simple to operate from behind the wheel. The ride is comfortable for a sports car, although noise levels and cramped quarters make long trips tiresome.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

ELLIE C., NJ (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

JOHN W., NC (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

Anonymous, MO (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“Driving my Miata is such a driver experience, you feel and react to the road. If you actually like driving this is fun, not just a sit and get there experience.”

GARY B., TX (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“The joy of sitting the seat that seems to fit me like a glove driving down the road with my cruise control engaged (as I have a lead foot) is an awesome experience. I love the feel of shifting. It is smooth.”

Anonymous, MI (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“Very good performance - faster than most people would think.”

JACK E., OH (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“This car is FUN. I am grining like an idiot every time I drive it.”

Anonymous, TX (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“Exenteration is great for that size engine and it's handling is excellent the more curves in the road the better .No slip or slideing”

JOHN C., FL (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“Acceleration, handling, ease of convertible top release and storage Wonderful look and style. Some minor repairs and parts are pricey but that's to be expected with the engineering necessary to get the looks and performance.”

RONALD C., WI (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“Quick & precise steering, cornering ability”

Anonymous, WI (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“We previously owned a Corvette. This car handles as well as if not better than it and is a lot more fun to drive. The Corvette had a lot more power, but the Miata is a fun car to drive.”

“Fun and agile handling and ride”

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

“Stiff ride, noisy”

JOAO G., CT (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“It's awkward to get in and out of. No good spot for purse or beverages, the holder on the door doesn't fit fast food drinks well. You need to be an acrobat to get at the fuel door release lever and storage bin. Lastly, the way younhave to slide in and out of the seats, the fabric is tearing.”

A R., WI (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“Seats very comfortable. Heating and cooling efficiency vary depending on whether moving or stuck in traffic. Road noise seems relatively high even for a convertible.”

MICHAEL G., CA (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“The door handle is in the way on the passenger side.”

J S., AZ (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“Seats fit me a little tight. I weigh 211 lbs.”

Anonymous, MO (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“seat needed to be customized for comfort”

C F., NJ (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“Great around town, but on long trips noisy and after a while the seats are not very comfortable. Not our first choice for a long road trip.”

Anonymous, WA (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

“priced much lower than most convertibles with excellent handling. fun to drive, low repair costs”

Anonymous, TX (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“I paid $23,000 for my 2006 Miata 10 years ago, I've driven the car for over 105,000 miles and only had one repair (thermostat replacement). In addition, the resale value of a Miata is outstanding.”

Anonymous, MO (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“My Miata rates just as high and handles just as good as the Porsche Boxer despite my Miata having less sporty tires and costing half as much. It gets great gas mileage, never burns ANY oil between changes and is very reliable. It is 1 month away from 10 years and at123,860 kilometers (77,000 miles) it has not had any major repairs except for a few due to normal wear and tear after a much longer than normal lifespan. For example I just changed my first wheel bearing and first brake caliper.”

DAVID R., ON (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“The car is a better car than my '95 Miata however, I think the quality is not as good. Lots of leaking issues. The airbag light has been on for 2 years. The radio died four years ago and I replaced it with an after market.”

EDWIN J., IL (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“Positives: + super fun to drive. Negatives: - low to get into/out of - noisy ride. Not for long trips out of town - Bose/XM radio only so so. XM sounds overly compressed”

JON S., AL (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“Handling, price”

DENNIS S., GA (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“Good value for the money and all the enjoyment and zoom you get.”

RONALD C., WI (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

Styling

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

“GREAT STYLE FOR SUCH A SMALL CAR.”

Anonymous, AB (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“Attractive roadster convertable”

VINCENT C., FL (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“I like the look of this year model over the older Miata models. This model has more room inside and doesn't have the "pop up" headlights.”

Anonymous, GA (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“overall, the best looking and most fun car we've ever had”

Anonymous, CO (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“It's black, I'm in Florida, it's hot, and the AC cannot keep up!”

Anonymous, FL (2006 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

“The look is great just can size car .hasn't changed much in over 20 years”
