The Miata is a fun-to-drive, low-slung little roadster, with pinpoint handling, instant power delivery, and a crisp manual gearbox. Excellent fuel economy is an extra bonus. While it remains very tight, the cabin has grown a little more livable over the years. The ride is surprisingly tolerable, but cabin noise can grow wearying on long cruises.

Overall Owner Satisfaction

Consumer Reports’ Annual Owner Satisfaction Survey can improve the chances of finding a compatible car match. How? Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Seats are not comfortable for long drives. Don't plan on any long days while in this car. A/C has to work overtime on hot days and does not keep car very cool, even with top up."

"It's a Mazda - Zoom, Zoom (Soft top) and small enough to fit most anywhere autos are allowed to park"

"Very nice ride but could use a little more leg space. My husband and son are both over 6 feet tall."

Alan R., NY (2014 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"very uncomfortable seats"

Bob B., CO (2014 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Mazda wants to make the Miata a light basic car. Okay, I get that. But they could add more soundproofing in the cabin area. Way too noisy on the road."

"seats are thinly padded and become uncomfortable on long trips. Excessive wind and road noise.. excellent ride, good response in turns,"

Joseph K., CA (2014 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

How it looks inside and out

What Owners Say

"Sports styling and very good looks"

Anonymous, IL (2014 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"The retractable hardtop is really ideal for all weather conditions, plus eliminating moisture during rains and reducing noise when the top is up. It drives like a real roadster. This is the 2nd MX-5 Miata Grand Touring hardtop I have owned, and have been pleased with both. Previously had 2009 and 2004 Honda S2000's which were high-calibre roadsters with unbelievable acceleration for a naturally aspirated 2.0 / 2.2 liter engines, but too bad Honda discontinued the S2000 in 2009."
