2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata Owner Satisfaction - Consumer Reports
The Miata is a fun-to-drive, low-slung little roadster, with pinpoint handling, instant power delivery, and a crisp manual gearbox. Excellent fuel economy is an extra bonus. While it remains very tight, the cabin has grown a little more livable over the years. The ride is surprisingly tolerable, but cabin noise can grow wearying on long cruises.

Our survey data reveals whether, all things considered, owners would buy the same car again. The answer to that question is what determines our owner-satisfaction rating, which is a powerful piece of intel because it predicts how well a particular model will satisfy other owners.

Ronald H., MO (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Best handle a little car of her own"

Bob B., TN (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Driving the MX-5 in normal traffic, responsibly, is a lot of fun. It’s performance envelope is well-matched to suburban driving. I owned a Corvette before the MX-5, and the fun didn’t begin until the car was going unreasonably fast - impractical and irresponsible. Driving the MX-5 feels like driving a go-cart."

Peter S., VA (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"It is designed for driving and performance, the handling and acceleration are superb. The Miata MX-5 is an OUTSTANDING VALUE for performance driving and it is fun to drive. ZOOM ZOOM"

"It drives like a track car"

William S., FL (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"good"

John B., FL (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"6 speed auto with paddle shifters takes off as fast as you want to easte fuel and tires. In auto it picks shift points better than i can. Auto is also a pleasure in downtown or congested I-5 traffic. On curvy 2 lane roads the paddle shiftets are slick and easy. No other roadster for me."

Anonymous, WA (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Excellent driving and handling car."

Todd V., NY (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"GREAT: Gas Mileage. Very Good: Handling, Styling, (Auto Retraction/Lifting of Convertible) Good: Zippy Acceleration POOR: Safety, Audio System, Comfort/Space, Tiny Cargo Allow BAD: Ride and Suspension, Interior Quality"

Anonymous, VA (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Although noise makes this a poor expressway cruiser, it is a blast through the twisty roads of the Texas Hill Country. The handling qualities encourage spirited driving."

Lawrence S., TX (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Great at both like you would expect of a low-slung sports car."

Tony P., ON (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"fUN TO DRIVE, LOOKS VERY GOOD,"

Anonymous, QC (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"The acceleration is amazing on the 2010 Mazda MX-5. It is fast and the handling is exceptional. The car can make turns quickly and is beyond fun. The only drawback is that it is not "quiet" and a bit of a bumpy ride, but it's a convertible sports car; I expect this."

Anonymous, AZ (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"FUN to drive!! Acceleration is adequate but the handling is fantastic. I'm always amazed at the capabilities of the car. You need to like a ride that is tightly controlled and some wind noise. But with the top down!!!"

Anonymous, MN (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"As fun as a car can get for this price."

KIRK H., AZ (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Most fun car I have ever had. Great acceleration, great road handling."

TONY P., ON (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"I like the acceleration and handling but it has too much body roll while cornering for my taste."

GARY M., IN (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Flying Miata speed shop in Grand Junction, CO added a supercharger and a stiffer suspension, the car is quicker and handles better than a Boxter at half the price."

Anonymous, CO (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Love to put the top down and cruse around the hills and valleys of our area of the Ozarks. The fun factor is at the top of the charts!"

RONALD H., MO (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"As has been reported by many before, it's a blast to drive. Getting a step ladder in the trunk, however, is a challenge."

WILLIAM H., OH (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Acceleration is excellent even in 6th gear. Sharp precise steering."

PATRICK T., MO (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"The car is a joy to drive. Most of my driving is long distance and it handles like a charm. When I need power to get out of tight spots, I just down shift to fifth and let her rip. What fun!"

DONNA B., PA (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

Comfort

Includes seats, climate control, noise, and ride

What Owners Say

"Seats are fine. The vehicle rides somewhat rough and is noisier than my other vehicles."

Charles T., FL (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"It is a soft top convertible, therefore there is road noise. This is the only downside to this vehicle."

Charles M., FL (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"a little difficult to get in/out . . tight . . but to be expected"

Anonymous, AZ (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"This is a Roadster, so, with the roof down, do not expect silence nor non-draftiness. The most fun car to drive that I have ever had."

Tony P., ON (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"seats are fine. Vehicle rides hard (rough) and is somewhat noisy."

Charles T., FL (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Drives like an English sports car! Great handling and road holding, good acceleration. Love the roof down."

Tony P., ON (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Ride is stiff, and a bit noisy, but it's a sports car. Handling could be tighter. Overall fun to drive and a good value."

RICHARD E., OH (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"It is noisier than I expected. Seats in the 2016 version are a bit more comfortable; no lumbar support in my 2010"

ERIC R., NY (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Seats are very hard to adjust for comfort. If the seats had a better quality of foam it would make a major positive difference. That's noise is one of the major issues I have. With the top is up, speaking to someone is almost impossible. The stereo system (5) track CD player is a nightmare. The CD player has a jamming issue. I no longer use, I have a CD still jammed inside. The system will no longer be any use to me.No longer will I enjoy books on tapes, Music CD's."

Anonymous, GA (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Remarkably quiet and smooth ride for such a small car"

ROBERT G., AZ (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Interior too tight."

Anonymous, CA (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

Value

Did you get what you wanted relative to the price you paid?

What Owners Say

"Miata is what English sports cars really wanted to be: inexpensive, fun to drive, smooth engine and transmission, open cockpit, but RELIABLE and with a power retracting hardtop that hides behind the seats - not in the trunk and is instantly ready to protect fro weather and to SECURELY lock the car. Miata is the only way to fly."

Anonymous, WA (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"Great sports car for under 30000. Handles superbly; fun on winding roads"

Charles A., AL (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"There are very few roadsters on the market, and none that gives the performance and style of the Miata. Still viewed as a “chick car “, though."

Alan O., FL (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)

"low cost, fun to drive"

John B., FL (2010 Mazda MX-5 Miata)
