Pickup Truck Face-Off: Chevrolet Silverado vs. Ford F-150

These two stalwart pickup trucks do the dirty work in different ways

The competitive full-sized pickup truck world has plenty of entrants, but there are really only two main contenders: the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and Ford F-150. They’re so popular that they're often the best- and second-best-selling vehicles in the U.S.

There are some big differences between the two trucks, however, including how they drive and the type of engine and transmission.

    More Pickup Trucks

Full-sized pickup trucks range from basic two-door, rear-wheel-drive work trucks to luxurylike trucks that can tow heavy loads, carry five adults in comfort, and cost almost $70,000.

Still, there’s a lot more to these two trucks than popularity. Here, we take a deeper look at each one and compare how they fare in CR’s testing and in our exclusive survey results. Which has better fuel economy? Which has a more comfortable ride or superior handling? Does one have more standard safety features? After digesting all that, we’ll tell you which one is tops in our book.
