What Owners Say
"Unfortunately, due to my husband's mishandling of not getting an urgent repair done on time, it damaged the gears which no longer shift smoothly. The repair would cost $1500 which is the same value of the car. We originally thought that the car would last a few more years, but now we plan to replace it in Sept."
MARIANNE K., CA (2002 Subaru Forester)"Comfortable, easy handling, superb vision."
ROBERT M., NJ (2002 Subaru Forester)"it is ok as automatic car"
VICTOR H., NY (2002 Subaru Forester)"The acceleration on my previous car, a 1997 Subaru Outback, kicked in quicker than it does on the 2002 Forester."
Anonymous, TX (2002 Subaru Forester)"No Prolems"
Anonymous, OR (2002 Subaru Forester)"Love the handling All Wheel Drive! When pulling out on slippery roads, no spinning tires, just goes where I point it. Loose gravel, it grabs and goes. And the road clearance great - I sometimes drive in parks with rough roads and hit fewer boulders than the folks with me."
MICHAEL W., MD (2002 Subaru Forester)"acceleration is ok. The handling is still smooth and tight!"
Dennis F., WA (2002 Subaru Forester)"The all-wheel drive system is invaluable in wet and snowy conditions, creating a stable drive. The versatility of space and cargo is a big plus. The boxer engine is an extremely well balanced engine requiring a smaller fly-wheel resulting in more acceleration and engine responsiveness."
Dave C., IL (2002 Subaru Forester)"Acceleration and handling are still great even after 234000 miles."
Anonymous, GA (2002 Subaru Forester)"It has been the greatest car for our Canadian climate. Handles just about any conditions, and with steadiness. We have a manual transmission, which helps."
L P., ON (2002 Subaru Forester)"Very good handling. Feels safe. Very good acceleration and control"
Anonymous, OK (2002 Subaru Forester)"Great car. Handles well."
Anonymous, MA (2002 Subaru Forester)"Solid little vehicle all around. Well made. Had head gasket issue repaired before I bought it. I replaced transmission at 108000 miles, even though Subaru dealership DID ALL scheduled maintenance as required. Extremely comfortable to drive. Car is amazing to drive in snow and ice. Like a snowshoe rabbit in snow with the all wheel drive. Most disappointed with fuel mileage for a vehicle of this size. Major drawback. Also had a severe performance issue, with a malfunctioning front o2 sensor..."
Anonymous, OH (2002 Subaru Forester)"It accelerates wonderfully when needed. It sits comfortably if you are less than 6' tall (and i am only 5'1"). All accessories are reachable comfortably when driving. I can see out all my mirrors to almost all areas around my car, so backing up safely and well is great. i look forward to buying another Forester when i have to retire this one."
Anonymous, MI (2002 Subaru Forester)"Predictable and solid"
Anonymous, CA (2002 Subaru Forester)"Reliable, handles well, and as all Subarus it is a very safe vehicle."
Lynn R., CA (2002 Subaru Forester)"It is great on snow and ice. I have never had to take it in for an minor and major issues."
Anonymous, AK (2002 Subaru Forester)"it is just a great little auto"
James P., CA (2002 Subaru Forester)"Great acceleration and handling."
Anonymous, NM (2002 Subaru Forester)"comfortable drive"
Anonymous, ID (2002 Subaru Forester)"4 cyl takes long time to get to speed."
Anonymous, KY (2002 Subaru Forester)"Typically for Subaru, a solidly engineered vehicle. With the 2002 Forester, there is some hesitation before the vehicle begins acceleration. With my previous 1997 Outback, stomp the go pedal and it was off and running immediately."
Anonymous, TX (2002 Subaru Forester)"Handling is great but the acceleration is poor."
Michael D., CA (2002 Subaru Forester)
"Both."
